If he were to insist on testifying, there would probably be a lengthy hearing to give each of his attorneys an opportunity to put on the record that they told him not to testify, so when it blows up in his face, he can’t try to blame them, or to argue on appeal that he had ineffective assistance of counsel.

Regression of reading level is another symptom of brain damage such as dementia (Alzheimer's maybe?). I watched my mother go from being a well educated,learning disabilities teacher to a 5th grade reader, then to a non-reader. She liked for us to bring National Geographic magazines to her. She struggled to read the articles. Then would try to read but get very frustrated at her inability. Finally, we couldn't get her to read at all, not aloud to us. She said she only liked the pictures. She would point at a picture and tell us a story. It is true that her dementia made it so she must tell a story to fill in the gap.
