To get an X-rank trick, you basically have to spin 360 degrees when u jump. I usually fall over irl whenever I try it lmao but I get the X rank every time I attempt it.

Very fair review! Yeah, as you said, this game did have potential, something not uncommon in the series. If it weren’t for the Kinect, I think it would have been the best Sonic Riders, or even the best Sonic spinoff game. I like they went for a middle ground, as Riders 1 had really complicated mechanics and didn’t explain any of them, whereas Zero Gravity was too simple and automated. Even the tutorial doesn’t miss. I also like how the blur effects give you a greater sense of speed. And even if you do not have a proper controller, playing this physically can make you feel good in addition to the HD graphics and high speed effects, if only it worked consistently. Also, as you said, graphics, race environments, and character models look really good. In fact, I’d argue they still hold up today. I can imagine this coming out today for newer consoles. And the track designs are also really good; at the beginning, they are relatively basic, but then become more complex later on. And there are some great setpieces. My favourite is the part where the confetti fly over the ramp when you get an x rank in Dolphin Resort. It is shame all these things are overshadowed by the controls poor functionality. As for the cutscenes, yes, they are a let down, but I think they do have some benefits over the in-game models ones they usually use. Most Sonic games aren’t very good with their cutscene animation, usually because of body proportions, making them look stiff and awkward. But in this game, I think using this slideshow style helps characters look smoother and more expressive in some ways, and also helps with the pacing of the story, especially one as simple as this. And we don't need a highly in-depth deep story for a game like this. While i appreciate the stories of the other two games, I don't think they really fitted or aged well, as I don't think we needed all that deep lore about the babylons, even if it was quite cool, especially in Zero Gravity. And i think the story itself is better written here, even if nothing much really happens. Of course, they are also lower budget, obviously. And at least there is one cgi cutscene in the opening, which looks really good and one I like even more than the Riders 1 opening. Every time I watch it, I always get hyped and think we are getting a new Riders game, and then I feel sad when I remember that it’s not new, as it still looks that good. And the controls, oh the controls. Yeah, they're not as bad as people say, but they are a workout. As you said, not every mechanic is properly explained. I think the worst examples of this are gimmicks such as the minecart, the waterski, and falling out of the shaft, where it can be unintuitive on what to do. So yeah, without Kinect and given a higher budget, this could have been something... That being said, the controls worked perfectly for me, but I do still think it should have been released with controller support. In fact, I think I like it more than TSR, which I consider to be the Forces of the Sonic spinoffs.
Riders 1 actually was a different story but had similar elements sure eggman held a giant race but the motivation was he wanted to have the treasure of Babylon and in free riders he was using the racers skills to build the ultimate extreme gear heroes plot Metal Sonic was mostly behind it
Super Sonic goes hard, even doesnt use Rings until the Super Sonic Boost and truly makes the Unlimited Air Guage Unlimited unlike with what Riders did. Also SS has the best voice of any character but not as best as in first two games.
I got Xbox 360, Kineckt and the game thís week and I have got to say that people who say that is unplayable are speaking a lot of gibberish. It plays really good. I think I'm kind of struggling with turning but that's it. Also regarding to your X rank question. The game wants you to do a spin when jumping off the ramps Though I recall pulling off a X without it somehow. So it seems it boils down to good timing and perfectly charged jump. Then spin just seems to help it? I honestly didn't find myself comfortable with doing a spin on jump so I just jumped.

This game has a patch which removes the Kinect function for a conventional controller. Sonic Riders and Zero Gravity also have patches which rebalances the game while adding new functions. Check them out., I am interested in your thoughts on them.
The game isn't bad. The system it's on is the problem. If the system would actually work, this would be fun, and when the kinect does decide to work, it's a good time, but that rearly happens. It's a lot better than secret rings because that game was on a system that actually worked. Look at Black Knight. That game is awesome because it uses the system it's on properly. (Btw I'm not saying secret rings is god awful, I think it's fine)
