This fan-fiction is one that I came up with sometime 2 years ago, it a prominent story on my to-do list that I wanted to tell soon so here we are. I plan on expanding this story into multiple parts, possibly 3 or 5. This is a variant on What if Anakin survived Return of the Jedi - but with one key twist, that being Luke dies instead of Vader!

Vader surviving would've been the best punishment possible. Most murderers kill themselves because they don't have the courage to face the families of their many victims. They don't have the courage to look themselves in the mirror. Self atonement is the hardest one of all.

Having researched Anakin's youth as a slave before becoming a Jedi, I think next Leia would look into his relationship with Padme and come to learn why Anakin became Vader - to save Padme and herself and Luke from dying in childbirth.
no one knew that except Anakin, so he'd have to tell her, regarding saving Padme which led him to being Vader.

It's pretty easy for her to infer why he did what he did from that. But let's all be real, by the time he became Vader in ROTS, he was seeking power more than he was valuing her life, even if he didn't want to admit it.

I don't blame Leia for not forgiving Anakin at first but knowing it's what Luke would want it's moving she couldn't let her hate for Vader consume her even good that Obi-Wan forgave him
Can't wait to see some father and daughter bonding with Anakin and Leia as they train and hunt down the Emperor
Maybe have Anakin tell Liea about Padme?
I feel that the Rebellion will spare Vader, but on the condition that he is not a free man, not until he has helped every planet he has terrorized, not until the wounds he inflicted can have a chance to heal.
From here, I feel Mon Mothma would have a new suit commissioned for Vader, one that looks different enough from his original that people wouldnt immediately recognize him as Darth Vader.
This is not an act of kindness, but a political act by Mon Mothma, so that they can essentially turn Luke into a martyr by saying "The last of the Jedi, son of the hero of the clone wars, Luke Skywalker, gave his own life to destroy not only the Emperor, but to avenge his father, Anakin Skywalker by also killing Darth Vader."
This way, they can have Vader help the new republic without actually admitting its him (though with the Emperor alive and likely on Exagol or Mutafar, this political act may come back to bite them)
From here, Leia would gradually begin to allow herself to be taught by Anakin the ways of the force, but knowing Anakin he wouldnt be one for meditation training, Anakin would likely improvise in the moment/on the battlefield.
If were lucky, Leia could fins Ashoka and she could have her reunion with Anakin

This could be a great source of conflict within the Rebellion/New Republic! I guarantee that Mon Mothma and Leia sparing Vader could cause certain groups to leave and/or oppose the New Republic. Even if the redeemed Anakin was doing everything he could all over the galaxy, he would still be despised - some would even accuse him of just being a tool/lapdog/hammer under a different master, which would be cool for PT and Thrawn Trilogy-style political intrigue. You could do some really tragic stuff by incorporating the last people of Alderaan going against Leia for sparing the one who destroyed their world. There's loads of story potential for the idea!

Someone I wanna see in part two
Well technically 2 people I wanna see.
1. Captain Rex, by this time Rex was a soldier in the rebellion and would no doubt speak about Anakin during Vader’s trial and to the rebels themselves
2. Ahsoka, if Ahsoka was aware that Vader was alive and was being set up for trial I think she would try and go see him.
But that’s just me 😏

Given rex's accelerated aging, I'm not sure if he'd be able to. I'd imagine if he was able to see Vader's trial, Asohka would have to help him as he'd likely be elderly at this stage.
This is assuming from how he looked in Rebels, he seemed like he was getting up there in age at that time.
@@theholy1191 Rex has been written in canon now to have fought in the Battle of Endor(he was part of the Strike Force on the ground) so he's not so old he cant move around, but his fighting days are definitely over.
I wanna know where these two were when all of this in the video was going down, they no doubt would've met Leia by now and they would most definitely in teaching Leia about the man Anakin Skywalker was.
Vader and leia moment was great, voice actors were brilliant here, can't wait to see what happens next and excited when we get jedi grevious part 3

The amount of acting and pain of both Vader and Leia. I imagine that the Rebellion would wish to execute Vader, and I hope the latter do help him escape with Han, Chewie, and maybe even Lando.
Happy Star Wars day everyone! I think it would’ve been heartbreaking to Leia if her brother died. She would’ve been hit hard after she felt her Luke die through the force. I was expecting to see what if Ahsoka raised Luke and Leia part 4

One thing I would do to make Anakin being spared actually work:
Have Anakin reveal Exogol and have Leia and the NR retrieve the Wayfinder from his castle on Mustafar. With this, they not only destroy the cloning projects, but take over the under construction Star destroyers, taking any that are complete. With the Sith Cult gone and the NR with a powerful navy, that I believe would allow Anakin to be spared. I could see Leia, Ackbar, and (if you want) Borsk Fe’yela voting to spare, causing a tie. As for what to do with him, Leia offers to take guardianship of Anakin. This however, would ruin her career. Mon Mothma warns that they will not allow Vader to go free, and if Leia wants her vote to spare, Leia will have to retire from politics and will not be allowed to run for office ever. They will announce that Vader has been dealt with and show a doctored holo of his execution. Leia would be given a pension of several million credits per year which will allow her to own a home and care for Anakin. This would allow Anakin to train Leia and have a permanent settlement for the Jedi to call home.
Dam really cool to see a mix of legends and cannon in this story. Really like the portrayal of Leia as I've always believed she would at first definitely hate/not instantly forgive Vader/Anakin after what he did to her, Luke, Han and many others throughout the galaxy, especially since Luke died in return of the Jedi and she wouldn't accept him as her father especially because she had Bail and Breha as her parents. Also really enjoyed Obi-wan forgiving Anakin and encouraging him to train Leia and that she would forgive him much like in legends.
I loved this first chapter, especially the conversations between Leia and Vader (all of them) and also the conversation between Leia and Ghost Luke near the end, where Luke gave her the guidance she needed about Vader...and the arc of Leia about his conflict.
An excellent tale. The moment of Leia confronting Anakin and finally forgiving him brought tears to my eyes, as it brought to me memories of a very similar tragedy in my life (with the difference that mine never has been resolved), so it really hit home for me.
I wonder if ahsoka is going to come into it I'd love a moment with anakin and ahsoka I mean she dose play a big part in the rebel alliance so it's not that far fetched to say that she could find out he's still alive even more so with there bond
I do love Ahsoka and Anakin and all, but I don't want her to hog the big screen from Anakin and Leia especially since this seems to be their centered story.

I'm sure Ahsoka finding out her old "Skyguy" is back in the Light would make her very happy. But that said, such a reunion would still be pretty painful. After all, she tried to redeem him, too, and failed.
And I'm sure, much like with Luke's endeavor in the main timeline, she'd likely have mixed feelings about establishing a new Jedi Order. But then again, two people who suffered the most from the Old Order's ways may be the ones best suited to help Leia realize a new, and better way.

I love this what if as much as Concordia Jedi “What if Vader lived after ROJ”. I’m looking forward to part two of both. Honestly both scenarios would be realistic in an alternative scenario.

I loved part 1 it was an amazing tale of forgiveness that had to truly be earned by Anakin. I look forward to part 2 and hope that Luke's spirit will visit his father. Just a thought.

I never thought of this before! The dialogue between Leia and Vader was perfect! Shout out to the voice actors, they did a really great job! I was like yes Leia, you tell him! No way would she forgive him easily (who would honestly? Besides Luke.) I can’t wait for the next part!
She didn’t forgive him easily hence why it took a year with many variables as shown - she forgave him in Legends for the same reasons.

I love this, great writing man. Thea Solone did an amazing job voicing Leia, I shed some tears when she said she forgave Anakin. Concordia Jedi also did an amazing job voicing the male Skywalker's. I can't wait for part two to this timeline.

I just like the idea of an Imperial task force bust Vader out only for him to defeat them all after releasing him.
Since Disney retcon the series, I'm going to say that this fan fiction story is a lot more intriguing than the Sequel trilogy. Great insight of the What if? universe.
Gotta say this was pretty good the voice acting the emotion between Leia and Vader was spot on looking to see part 2
The road a head for Lea and Anakin will be difficult. Especially with Darth Sidius still at large.
Well damn. I love this. In fact, I think it would have been a stronger conclusion to the OT, it would have allowed Anakin’s story to continue and be the father he was supposed to be. It would give Leia a new arc, and allow the skywalker line to continue.
It would have also made Luke a Christlike figure. As if he isn’t already lol. In addition, handing Anakin another brutal personal loss - a son he only just knew he had - gives him an opportunity to respond to loss in a manner that doesn’t require the dark side, thus bringing his character full circle. His story started with a personal loss taking him down a dark path, this story brings him back to the light with another loss.
It would have certainly made for a better sequel trilogy… that’s for damn sure.

This is a definite turn of events that would change the legend story and I do like the redemptioner for Vader as well as a deeper character development for Leia who truly is the embodiment of the original Sith code: Peace is a lie there's only passion

I'm surprised Anakin didn't ask first thing to get his mask modified so he didn't have to hear himself speak in his Vader voice or look at people through the black lenses.
He’s not really in the position to make requests or demands for his comfort.

Can you have anakin bring up padme'? I think leia would be proud to find out that her mother was one of the best queens naboo has had and one of the best senators in the republic. Then I also think she wouldunderstand how in "Leia. Princess of Aldreaan" why her parents were so mad when she went to the naboo system and were so worried when she told them how Panaka had said Leia reminded him of someone. I think that might bring the two closer. Espically if they went to naboo to visit her grave and mabye even the Naberrie family (padme's faimly) because most likely her aunts, uncles cusinezs and grandparents where all alive. I would also be cool if she meet some of padme's handmaidens.
Just a thought though. I think it would be cool for leia to learn who her mother was. Because I am guessing she was corius after she found out who vader was, I think she would want to know who her mother was as well. And I think she would be more accepting of padme' as her mother than vader as her father. I also think that Leia would remind Anakin of padme'.

Jesus, as someone who enjoys stories of alternate events, this alternate timeline theory is deep AF. This story is heavy and I love it! I look forward to part 2.
It amazes me how every Fan Fic I’ve heard that takes place after Return of the Jedi is always WAY better that what we got from Disney. This great story is no exception. As a matter of fact, it’s one of the Best by far! If you don’t feel this than you are not a Real Star Wars fan! This Fan Fic has its own unique twist, relates to cannon, keeps the characters in tune with their personalities, like, it’s Perfect! It leaves you wanting more.
And to top it off, anyone who has hated another person close to them, for a ballad reason, can relate to Leia.
I not only subscribed, but eagerly look forward to/for the next part of f this tale.

Heartfelt and thought provoking if the arc was a little obvious. The voice actors did a very good job of impersonating Hamil and Fisher, even Vader sounded fantastic. In all an excellent piece of fan fiction.

Wow, this was actually really REALLY GOOD! I felt myself getting emotional at times, especially the flashbacks to his younger self and Leia contemplating the pain he went through in the suit and the parallel to him being a slave all of his life. Whoever wrote these series clearly understands the lore of Star Wars, this is what Disney should have hired 6years ago, when Carrie fisher was still alive and when the sequels just began
