I have hypoglycemia. My glucose drops quickly after I eat a meal. First it goes up from the food intake, then begins to drop. I start to feel the drop around glucose levels below 120. I have to take potassium orally to stop my muscles from cramping, then I take glucose high fluids and/or solids too stop the drop. How about giving a lesson on hypoglycemia. I know it is much less frequent than diabetes, but it is a very serious condition.

Was in hospital two weeks ago potassium went up. Now at home bloodwork shows it is down to 3. Doctor has me on 4 potassium pills (40mg) but I am also on a new water pill and prednisone. Any advice?
How much and how quickly do potassium levels change day to day? Is it like glucose where it can vary widely during one day based on what the pt ate and did or is it a more slow-to-change situation?
anniekate76, great question! It won't change drastically day to day but happens more over time, with the exception of acute situations where there is an abnormality. I hope that helps clarify it for you! Have a fantastic day!
Musammat Rahman, since potassium plays a big role in the heart, any variation from normal can cause a disruption to the normal cardiac function. Same goes for the muscles and reflexes, since potassium plays a big role in this as well any variation can disrupt it. I hope that helps, friend!
