He was one of the best comedic actors globally. He was brilliant in every role played. Was he unique? You bet your sweet petunias he was. So many actors were successful in one film, and lack lustre in the next, but Terry shone in every production. He makes my heart glad still.
I'm proud to say I took part in the 1989 concert at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to raise funds for Terry, I was there as a member of The Great Western Chorus of Bristol and it's a night I will never forget.
in 1977 as a young man just out of school I began working at a hotel in Kensington, London. I saw Terry walking up the otherside of the road behind De Vere Gardens. We were the only ones on the road at the time and although he was instantly recognisable, I was taken aback by how old & ill he looked. I must have stared at him as we both continued to walk passed each other but I was too 'star struck' to say anything or to have call out a greeting across the road. A few more steps along the road & I turned back to just to see him again at the same time he had turned around to look at me. We did a 'double take' ! I've always regretted & often wished that I had just said 'hello', given a wave or have told him how much I had enjoyed his films. But the moment had gone. I later found out from others that he lived locally though I never saw him again & my abiding memory is of an frail, old, & sad looking man.
I always remember how sad I felt reading the the newspaper articles about what a terrible state he was in during his later years. Today a crowdfunder by his fans would have sorted him out in a jiffy. Thanks for the childhood memories Terry, you deserved better old chap.
Back in the 50's we had an comedy actor here in Denmark, known as Professor Tribini, who reminded very much of Terry-Thomas. But Tribini died in 1973 at the age of only 58.
Shame on the industry to have left Terry on his own. School for Scoundrels was such a beautiful film and he was such a wonderful actor. Those last scenes were hard to see.
I enjoyed any movie with him in it. his character in magnificant men in their flying machines was inspiration for Dick Dasterly from Wacky races , and his side kick Mutley . Loved em as a kid.
i was on the island of Ibiza in 1976....i was driving with friends through a village on the N. end of the island and saw a large N. American car parked on the side of the road....as we passed Terry Thomas was at the wheel....that face of his looking back at me i have no idea where he lived....just that he had retired to the island and everyone knew that car
His final years were in a cosy comfortable nursing home payed for by the benefit night...by people who loved him.......He was a legend and truely lived may he rest in peace
l would say that most millennials have never heard of him and many of those comic geniuses of the immediate post war period up to perhaps 1970...Humour has changed so much, l doubt there would be any place for those comics now...l remember with great fondness being entertained from the fifties and sixties by them all
We all loved T.T.It was disgrace that he was abandoned and almost left to die uncared for. Hope that can never happen again to any of our English icons.A safety net.
I recall Terry and really loved his work. It is an absolute shame that help for him was too little and too late. Incurable disease can destroy one's soul if the ability to work is destroyed by it. I was a respected musician years ago but an incurable disease rendered me unable to play anymore. Music was part of me so I think I can relate. Bless Terry wherever he is.
The film "industry" a bunch of backstabbing a-holes , it is all good if they can make money off youre back but when it does not go as planned they drop you like a .... 🤮🤮🤮🤮👎👎👎👎
BIG earner , made some serious cash in the 50, to the mid 70s. Lived and extremely lavish lifestyle, Rolls Royce’s ( new ) fabulous Chelsea flats on rent , lived abroad etc etc and like so many think it’s going to last forever and gave ZERO thought to his old age... The list is endless “ James Robertson justice, Joan Greenwood, etc etc... And he was housed in an housing association flat so he was hardly on his ass destitute.
Loved Terry Thomas! He died broke and sick from the socialist UK taxes and system! That's what the Beatles song Tax Man says, "Should five percent appear too small, Be thankful, I don't take it all."

A jolly good fellow who gave us many laughs over the years.

@@nw8000 Sadly, he was too il to attend.
A wonderfully talented actor whose humour and character was loved by thousands, if not millions across the world.

Cool! What was he wearing?
Awwwww Proggs, this one is very original, although havn said, most of 'em are 🤣
All I can says is that I miss him and we will not see his like again.😢
He was funny...I especially loved him in 'those magnificent man in their flying machines'. Sadly I do think he is mostly forgotten /overseen.
I think you mean overlooked.
I remember him from "This crazy crazy world ..." he absolutely splendid. A movie I still look at say once a year or so.
I always remember how sad I felt reading the the newspaper articles about what a terrible state he was in during his later years. Today a crowdfunder by his fans would have sorted him out in a jiffy. Thanks for the childhood memories Terry, you deserved better old chap.
I remember terry thomas with great affection. OAP
😂 Such a funny comedian come actor. Such a sad 😔 ending ......
Fantastic actor and such a shame he ended his days as he did. He would have played the perfect Flashman if the decades had aligned.
Back in the 50's we had an comedy actor here in Denmark, known as Professor Tribini, who reminded very much of Terry-Thomas. But Tribini died in 1973 at the age of only 58.
Always great fun to watch, a sad end however he has left the world some fond memories

We don't have actors like him anymore. He was very witty in his interviews.
MY LATE MOTHERS FAVOURITE PERSON. RIP TERRY
Sad story about a GREAT actor and comedian!
Shower, as in washing yourself … robovoice messes up again!
He always made me laugh what a cad but a brilliant actor. R I P Terry
Worked a lot with John Le Mesurier, seen several times in the video.
And Eric Sykes.
He was brilliant
A superb character actor who made himself an automatic choice for the role of the loveable "cad". So sad, that his later years were so unhappy.
One of my favourite films was school for scoundrels all time classic one funny man thanks for the laughs terry a true great rip 😊
Hard Cheese !
@@flappospammo what that means ?

True legend RIP
How does such a famous actor run out of money?
Just to say that i think it was the actor Leslie Phillips whos catchphrase was Ding dong! ❤
Ding dong you're not wrong! 😊
Correct the blonde bounder would purr " Ding Dong "

Legend
My generation grew up watching Terry I loved his style and his posh English accent another David Niven shall we say 💁
What a ' shah ' ! A rotten 'shah ' ! Absolutely top hole , whizz- o and splendid ....
His catchphrase was "You are an absolute shower" as in rain, now shower as in show.
He was a bounder and a cad proper British gentleman and sadly missed I love those upper class oinks
What a shaaaaerrr
god bless the TALENTED , the sick and the righteous , rest in the eternal peace of Eden , Sir !!!
He was Britain's version of America's Actor/Comedian Jerome cowans.
Well that was sad
The guy in the phone box at 1:49 looks like he could be onto a nice littler earner..
That is George Cole. A much loved British actor.
@@Dooguk I think jomac is aware of that!
Always interesting to hear an American narrator struggling with British pronunciation.

So sad he didn't get residuals, he would have had a comfortable old age.
His school had clean waters and cooking water he might be better with the water fir cooking from bottled shoo just in time watér
Change the thumbnail. So disrespectful. Would you like your aged father shown like that to millions?
No idea why this would be a Yankee voice narrating this????? I suspect AI nonsense. Who’d waste time watching that?

He lived in Palma not Ibiza
also in Ibiza in San Carlos
He was a star,?
In Britain he was famous, I'm not sure I'd call him a star though.
He was a national treasure though 👍
