When I was 12 I saw them on public television in Washington DC and I couldn't even describe them properly to my family and friends to convince them to watch with me since they came on very late at night. I eventually ha one friend who also watched and we would bug the crap out of everyone on the school bus Monday morning
Never did I laugh so hard as when I listened to the Goon Show with Neddie Seagoon and Eccles trying to sell contraband saxophones to Native Americans or trying to sell diplomatic immunity.
No mention of the success that Terry Gilliam had later on as a director? TIME BANDITS, BRAZIL, THE FISHER KING, and TWELVE MONKEYS are all imaginative works, along with several other lesser-known movies!
So Cleese was the Chevy chase of monty python, which is why i never understood the whole "sell out" cliche, because like snl most of the python alumni became wealthier through broader pursuits of media.
Reelly not an accurate title. A concise summary of their world changing influence on comedy, barely touching on their feuds, extensive enought to fill episodes of documentaries.
Cleese just didn’t want to do a 4th Python. That’s it. He was bored with the endless attempts to make it work on the format. He certainly didn’t leave to do Fawlty Towers. This was supposed to be a low key sitcom on BBC 2 until the viewing figures reached 9m quickly so the BBC moved it to BBC 1 as a front line show.
Growing up during the 60s/70s and with so few channels back then, this was easy to find and watch. As a young man, this was the only show on TV where you could see BOOBIES! 🤣🤣 Loved this show! Was funny asf, very edgy and definitely groundbreaking.
Ironic how Cleese became the stuffy old man that he used to make fun of. Anyway, Python was and still is pure gold. I actually met Chapman few years before he passed. I honestly asked him about their college days. He looked at me and surprisingly said, "you know, we have been talking about that lately!". Would have been a great way to end their film collaborations!
In the 90's I had a Python program for my 386 puter, believe it was called 'A Complete Waste of Time'. Some screensavers and stuff to click on that would spout a classic line or some Gillam animation. Not a game just silliness and I enjoyed all the wasted time.
They did comedy together before Python under different comedy show names with a few different people like Marty Feldman included. They probably didn't think it was their permanent gig. Not many 6 person comedy teams stay together! I did kind of have some anger at Cleese in the 70s when he didn't do the final season of the TV show. All is forgiven now, amen.
I first saw them on TV in the late seventies when I was in junior school & loved it. They did use a lot of terms which, if they were used by northern stand up comedians, would be condemned. That's the leg up oxbridge gives you. I don't watch Meaning of Life, too many songs. The other films are just wonderfully daft.
nobody will ever be remotely as great as the Monty Phyton group, they were unique and thank God we still have some of them living and giving us the pleasure of laughter.
I would say stay on point, but you barely touched on the video's premise. Just another example of click bait. If you wanted to do a thumbnail biography, call it that. SHAME ON YOU FOR THE MISREPRESENTATION!
FV doesn't know, what the Word "Feud" means, obviously. I saw the Title, and was emediately annoyed and wanted to ignore it. But, Holy Brian , why, why always the cheap and lazy Clickbait?! "Thanks" for telling us what probably Everyone already knew. 🤤👍 🎶🎺Twoooot🫷
Summary: there was no feud
Thanks.
Just saved me eight minutes.
I came here for an argument...
Criminally underrated comment.
Sorry, I'm not allowed to argue unless you've paid
No, this is abuse
No; you didn't.

Monty Python wasn't so very much of a departure for British audiences, influenced as they were by Spike Miligan.
Never did I laugh so hard as when I listened to the Goon Show with Neddie Seagoon and Eccles trying to sell contraband saxophones to Native Americans or trying to sell diplomatic immunity.

Exactly !
Milligan led the way in British Post War off-the-wall comedy.

Actually there is a feud - Eric Idle On Monty Python Feud With John Cleese: Money Can Lead To “Very Bad Arguments”
Was just gonna comment that myself.

Yes, just what I came here to post.

The Goon Show was way before and set the table.

Lousy content. 8 minutes of history most people know; 45 seconds of there being No Feud. Now that is silly.
Monty Python and The Marx Brothers remain the Best in comedy from the 20th Century

Monty Python is the rock stars of comedy. They match The Beatles in their fame.
Compared to Jack Benny and Uncle Miltie, these guys were geniuses!

YE OLDE CLICKBAIT. They definitely almost got into fistfights with each other during The Flying Circus days...this upload never discussed them.
No love for Jabberwocky?
This post is an "Ex-Parrot"

What feuds? Load of crap!
Rip off, no talk about the feud. Just a quick history.
