This is definitely a childhood favorite for a lot of people. It was one of the first dishes I learned to cook growing up. Still think I have the index card with the recipe somewhere 🤣🤣
Hicimos esta receta hace poco y quedó súper (le añadimos sazón porque no pudimos resistir jaja). Me encanta su canal! Much-needed para los boricuas en la diáspora.
So glad you discovered our channel! 😊😊 And yeah, salchichas are super typical in any number of dishes. Besides rice, people frequently add them to things like beans, soups, and stews. Very yummy!
I used to eat this a lot growing up! Thank you for the recipe! It also reminds me of another meal we had. It was rice and corned beef? Not sure if that was a common meal or what haha
I always hated Corn Beef, but yes it is a very popular dish among Puerto Rican families. My Mother made it many times when I was growing up and my Grandmother used to make it with papas. The beautiful thing was my Grandma and my Mother knew how much I hated Corn Beef so whenever they made it with Arroz Blanco they would fry either some pollo or make Chuletas Fritas for me on the side with a piece of Aguacate.
Great video! What kind of pot do you guys recommend for making arroz con salchichas or arroz con gandules? I can’t tell if you used a dutch oven or caldero de aluminio?
This will be my first time making this and I will be using long grain rice do I have to adjust the ingredients in any way for three people including myself?
Hi!! I didn’t use anything here specifically for coloring but the sofrito and tomato sauce add to it. You can feel free to add a packet of sazón, that’s how much I would have used.
Hey there! Sorry that you are not familiar with sofrito. It’s the base for all Puerto Rican cooking. We have multiple recipes in our channel - ua-cam.com/video/GU0BR4hhdkA/v-deo.html
El arroz no se menea hadta que toda el agua se evopora . y al arroz no se le echa salsa para eso esta el sazon con color .le meneas demaciadas veces oh my God
My mother use to make this for us a children. Love it and think of her a lot.

We generally use a caldero but you can really use any pot with a wide bottom
New subby! The intro alone had me sold! Ty
Thank you!!! Enjoy!
This will be my first time making this and I will be using long grain rice do I have to adjust the ingredients in any way for three people including myself?
The water content will be a little different - sorry don’t have exact measurements since we use medium grain rice
Yummy
Oh my! Yummy indeed!!
When my abuela makes this the rice is usually a more vibrant orange/yellow color. Maybe its the sazon?
Yes. People add more Sazón.
So do you guys know how many cups that would be for the 2 pounds? I googled it but just got even more confused
It’s about 4.5 cups for the 2 pounds but weighing it is the most exact way.
@@JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen ok thanks I appreciate that. I might have to get a small kitchen scale
How many cups of rice does this recipe take?
Hi!! 2 lbs of rice is about 4 3/4 cups of rice.
I notice you don’t use Sazón. What do you use for coloring?
Hi!! I didn’t use anything here specifically for coloring but the sofrito and tomato sauce add to it. You can feel free to add a packet of sazón, that’s how much I would have used.
So just tomato sauce , not Goya tomato paste?
We don’t use tomato paste but you can use it and instead add a bit more of water.
are olives optional?
Yes!
Can you make veldura
Jenny Guzman sure can! Is there any specific type that you prefer??

That looked like a lot of salt!
You can certainly add less, but it was really delicious!
@@JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen I'm sure it was, it looked good and I love rice with salchichas!
Sofrito? What the heck is that? Poor teaching skills.. Should explain what it is. A fruit? A vegetable? A meat? An herb? A wine?
