Adobe audition but I want to understand it more
I use Adobe audition and audacity, but Adobe is my go to software.
Like you I started with cool edit..audition is what I use..great software.
Audacity free and easy!
Do I remember Cool Edit Pro? I regularly use a bootleg copy of Cool Edit Pro 2.1! That's my go-to audio editing software.
I used to love Cool Edit Pro.... many years ago :) I am 70 now but still do recording at home :)

I like Reaper for voice over and podcast.
Reaper was very close to being included in this list!
Why did you not include reaper? I am not a professional but found reaper a very good option and for the price its very good.
