Love them or hate them, Ryanair is one of the biggest contributors to connecting Europe. Sure, Western Europe may have other options for cheap flights, but very few airlines reach Eastwards, speaking from a Lithuanian point of view. It has helped Lithuania tremendously in the tourism sector and I'm sure it helped other less visited countries too, allowing people to explore Europe much more easily and for such a low cost. Being a student in Oslo, I also have a running joke that I could fly home, get a haircut, and fly back for less than the cost of a haircut in Norway 😅
Definitely true, I visited Vilnius on a 24 hour layover last year because it was the cheapest connection from London to get to Kutaisi. Great city, I'll definitely be back
@Space Backspace with the amount of flights that they operate, it's inevitable that there will be stories of bad experiences with the service. Also, some people hate Ryanair's policies and the way they go very far to monetise the smallest things in order to cut costs as much as possible. Most people obviously don't mind the inconveniences and will not turn their backs on super cheap tickets, but there are always the people who want to have their cake and eat it too.

I’m from Turkey and I live in NYC. I flew Ryanair a couple dozen times and never had any issues. I paid for what I needed and set my expectations accordingly. So efficient!
Ryanair and Wizz are possibly pretty much the only reason I've ever used planes. Usual carriers are just too expensive in most cases for regular folks.
@@colonel_carlito as a frequent flyer what extras do you really need the only extra I ever pay on a ryanair flight is a seat when flying with a partner. Speedy boarding is total nonsense unless you have health issues. Paying for a baggage if going for up to a week you shouldn't need it carry on all the way.

As a Portuguese in Luxembourg, Ryanair completely changed the game in 2005/06. Before that time, it was catastrophically expensive to go to Portugal by plane, so most immigrants would save their holidays for summer and Christmas to pick their cars as a cheaper option. Then ryanair started operating in Frankfurt Hahn (Germany), and it completely took it by storm. Suddenly people were going to Portugal every month for a bargain. It was so bad for the Luxembourg airport, that a few years later ryanair and easyJet started to operate there, and I’m almost certain that they have the highest flight rates there today. Regardless of what everyone thinks of ryanair, they made immigrants lives so much better.
Good video, but I only miss an another part of the low cost formula: the working conditions for their employees on different bases and their insecurity about their future (bases can be closed quickly, strikes aren't allowed, court rulings are put aside).
No one works for Ryanair, everyone is a contractor. The ground staff at the airport will tell you "We don't work for Ryanair!" The pilots are all low time "beginning" pilots, who are paid low wages and are only there to build time so they can apply to the larger airlines, and work on a contract basis. Also, Ryanair doesn't have any hubs, so no pilots or crew overnight in hotels (or very few), they return home. Many of their ideas are inovative (a single aircraft type) but also, you will not be compensated from them when something goes wrong. If you have two connecting Ryanair flights and the first is late, too bad, you don't get compensation for missing your Ryanair flight, eventhough Ryanair was responsible. You have a return fligtht and the return is canceled? Too bad, Ryanair doesn't do return flights, they are all one way, you can reschedual (maybe for two or four weeks in the future) or get your money back, they will do nothing to get you home. Try to phone customer service? Ha ha ha ha! And remember, the price is not the price. You can only pay by card and you have to pay to pay. Oh yeah, it is free if you use a Ryanair credit card! Is the card free? Ha ha, of course not! Want to take more than a briefcase? Pay! If you have the choice of paying £25 more for another airline for the same flight, DO IT! Ryanair is cheap, until you have to pay £400 to get home, because Ryanair canceled your flight!

Even if a company defines a worker as an independent contractor, they may not fulfill criteria set by law for such a position. Using equipment owned by the employer and working on a schedule set by the employer typically voids the independent contractor status. In any case, the chapter on cost cutting should have included a bullet point on keeping down staffing cost (but not going into detail, as that would warrant a whole video by itself).
I used to work for Ryanair as cabin crew and I had a contract directly with them. It's true most people will start as contractors but depending on your position you will get contracted directly with them after a while. Yes it may not be the best airline to work for, but it has also perks that other airlines don't offer which suit a lot of people. For example as you said Ryanair crew always goes home, they don't do overnights. They have great roster patterns, with working 5 days being off for 3 which suits people with families and people who just don't want to wake up in a different city every day. Also there are great opportunities to grow in the company if you are willing to put down the work and you're not a lazy bumm. Yes it has many bad sides too, for both customers and crew but it is undeniable that it made air travel affordable for millions of people and it also employs around 20k people all around Europe.
I know they're terrible to work for but my god are they great for customers. Growing up in ireland and having hardly any money didn't matter I could travel to most European cities for 20 euro return. I know i shouldn't but I love them!!

Thanks to Ryanair I've been able to visit many European countries on a Balkan salary and see my friends and family often. Tourism in my country has increased thanks to the cheap flights, too. I've never had a problem with them and the longest flight has been 3 hours so a little discomfort is nothing if it means going to London for 40€. Wizzair, on the other hand, cancelled a flight mid-way through so that was fun.
Worth noting SAS isn't just the Swedish flag carrier, as suggested at the beginning of the video. It's the joint carrier for Denmark, Sweden and Norway. (Reasonably minor error though.)
@@erik_griswold several flag carriers are no longer publicly owned, but they're generally still recognised as the national 'prestige' airline. It's probably true that this is increasingly arbitrary, though.
Southwest airline implemented this same approach 20 years earlier than Ryan Air which is why they were able to successfully take on the giants in American aviation - United, Continental, American, TWA, etc.
Correct but until the deregulation of the USA air travel market, Southwest had to fly within Texas, just like how PSA (mentioned as an influence to Ryanair in this me intro) could only fly within California

The thing is, Ryanair overall is just as safe as most other European airlines. And so, for me, it's like "Oh no, hard landings, 2 seconds of discomfort for a 100€ reduction in price, how awful" Also, as a passenger, I genuinly apprechiate the fast and efficient boarding. I’ve been flying with them for years… within Europe where flight time is 2- 2:30 hours or so it’s a good and cheap way to get you from point A to point B if you are well organised and can read instructions. I never had any problems

Ryanair made every traveler's life much easier. Love them. I love how people like to complain but they never want to pay £150 + for a 1h flight to Europe on a legacy carrier. If you want seats that recline 2 inches more and airlines that offer 1 water and 1 snack for 3x the price be my guest. Even the food on-board Ryanair seems no more expensive than the prices you would find on the ground inside an European Airport.

They went all-in on "everyone pays" for food and drink, on both ends. OG Ryanair would offer a complimentary orange juice. When O'Leary took over, one of the things he tried was going to their supplier and saying that instead of paying for the OJ, the supplier should instead be paying them for being the official juice of Ryanair, arguing that they were otherwise getting free advertising. He really was serious about not paying for anything they didn't have to pay for.
From a business perspective, that's beyond genius! Name one other way, of getting your NAME brand around! If the volume is reasonable and the supplier of those juices can miss the "lost revenue", I would have taken the deal. He wouldn't get that kind of deal TODAY, I can tell you that! Marketing 101

@@himagainstill a lot of advertising deals run this way though- if you think that the positive influx of customers from having your brand elsewhere is high enough to negate the profit losses, it can be worth it. why else would companies send out free products to other companies and even pay them additionally, in order to promote their brand ? it's a little bit of a d*ck move when they had been paying the company for a while already, but it's also not unheard of in business.
One thing about fuel, every airline carries the least amount of fuel they can. In ryanair usually you round up the legal minimum to the nearest 100 and then add another 100. So say your flight requires 7436 kg of fuel, you'd round it up to 7.5 tonnes and add another 100 kg to make it 7.6 tonnes. This is perfectly safe and literally every airline does it. The only time you carry extra fuel is when you're tankering (which is what you mentioned, say you're in Poland and fuel is really cheap you carry as much as you can) or when there are operational reasons such as weather that might delay your arrival.
Ryanair goal is that everyone can travel regardless of the money they have. You want to discover the word with a small budget ? Just go with a backpack ! You want more comfort ? Just pay a bit more for that, but still less than in regular airlines !
They use a lift truck called an "ambulift". My wife has very limited mobility and we use it all the time. It's a pretty decent service and the airport porters and airline staff are always really helpful.
09:05 The toilet fee is not a joke. Toilets use a lot of space and they weigh a lot. If less people use them, you save a lot of costs. Most costs on Ryanair are there to make the flight more efficient. Why can't you check in at the airport? Because it costs a staff member!
I was surprised to not see a comparison to Southwest in the US. They pioneered most of the cost saving measures Ryanair uses but after watching the entire video, i think Spirit would be a closer comparison. Most Americans hate extra fees!
I think this depends on where you are flying from, or whether the terminal location was changed prior landing. If possible, Ryan Air really don't use them. Flew with them many times, usually had to walk down the stairs to the plane. I don't mind it at all.

I have paid for myself, husband and two children on return flights from Dublin to Brussels, less than the cost of return train tickets from Limerick to Dublin. You get what you pay for. Luggage is a backpack because you can roll up your clothes. Fill up your bottle at the water fountain. I bring crisps, sandwiches and snacks through security checks. I have flown home from Brussels for €16.99. I had a backpack, bought no refreshments on-board and ate my snacks and drank free water.
In 2018 Ryanair Sun (Buzz) started to take over the charter flight market in Poland due to bancrupcy of Small Planet. Today Buzz operates a lot of charter flights mostly for TUI and Grecos, in the summer seanson. It has significantly increased the number of all Ryanair’s flights from airports like Katowice.
It's kind of starting in the UK with Lumo on the East Coast Mainline. Not sure how successful they'll be though. Also rail workers don't generally put up with wages being suppressed.
The fact that they NEVER use jet bridges is absolutely not true. In Vienna for instance they constantly use jet bridges. The one time I used Ryanair in the last 15 years, even I used a jet bridge to board the plane in Vienna

Ryanair charge cheap fares, then dump extra fees here there and everywhere. Overall, it's more cost effective and comfortable to fly with a traditional airline. Having a shuttle bus in the air isn't fun.
Such rubbish, I’ve flown Ryanair for at least 12 years and they have been the cheapest option on all but 2 occasions. Why? Because I pay for exactly what I need. Moreover despite mostly flying Ryanair I have had far more delays and cancellations with legacy airlines (tbf mostly on long haul flights)

Never used Ryanair. Only used Finnair. I guess you can probably guess where I'm from. Would rather pay the extra cash then fly in an aircraft like that, but I do understand if you don't have the money I guess it's a good choice. But, if you want a better flight and do have the extra money, I'd recommend Finnair/your countries flag carrier everyday of the week. Guess only exception would be if your countries flag carrier is bad?

It's not their business model and as other pointed out, their planes do not have the range. But if you want to try longhaul on budget, try Scoot to Singapore (and remember to book their economy seats). Budget airlines are OK for up to 4-5 hours flight, but many prefer to pay extra for a full service airline on longer flights.
Ryanair don't have the intention to fly to those places and their planes don't have the range to those places. AirAsia, VietJet and Cebu Pacific dominate those regions by the way.
I wish they *would* charge to use the toilets - Michael O’Leary’s logic and observations are completely spot on. I was sat in the seat in front of the toilets on a flight once and it really annoyed me as there was a queue for them the second the seatbelt light went off. And there was generally someone hovering over me waiting for the entire flight. Some people made 3 or 4 visits across a 2 hour flight. Ridiculous.

To be honest I grew up taking probably 90% of my flights with Ryanair but after 12+ years of taking that shitty company I am fed up on even trying to find an "affordable" and "cheap" flight 2 to 3 months prior of my flight just to save some money. I am basically a only ItaAirways passenger nowadays since I can get a better airport, sit and service in general for 20/40€ more for ticket but at least I have more time to find an affordable ticket with Ita than with Ryanair. Also a better and more connected airport means less cost for taxi/busses/metro overall.
Great video that explores a bit past the headline building to highlight the vitally important, but less photogenic, other projects and factors that lead to success. Too many times people need a simplified single factor to focus on, when multiple coordinated factors are the key.
You missed out so much about how they keep their costs down. One of the major ways is through the way in which Ryanair contracts everything from airports to pilots. You missed out turn times (30 mins) as an aircraft in the ground is not making money. Watch how at a busy airport, when a Ryanair aircraft lands, fuel and baggage handling is already there. It seems that they get preferential treatment at most of the airports they fly to. If they don’t, they just leave and go to another small airport that is desperate to stay open and will accept the low fees that Ryanair will agree to. Crew: First Officers and cabin crew are poorly paid, just building hours and experience until they can get a better job. Captains are well paid as the company has no choice, but there are thousands of young people desperate for a job and Ryanair makes the most of this. Oh, the 737 type rating - pilots pay for it; uniforms as well. Pilots used to be (I’m not sure now) graded on how much fuel they use and have to explain to management if they take extra. Ryanair always carry the legal minimum fuel, not one kg extra as a heavier aircraft burns more fuel. I could go on, but you really missed out how aggressive Ryanair is as contract negotiator and as an employer. Lastly, look at how many of their pilots have a contract and how many are self employed - a nice National Insurance dodge for Ryanair if a pilot is self employed and less protection. Why do you think that Ryanair pilots have been trying so hard to unionise. Of course, I could be wrong and they now may be the best employer in the world.
This. Ryan Air perfected the playbook of low cost flight. The only problems was now China and Middle East began to snatch pilots all around the world and drive up demands so munch. Got a friend that switch to Chinese airlines early this year and he almost tripled his total earnings by basic wage alone. With bonuses it may very well more than quadrupled.
I have never fly abroad because it is expensive with regular airlines. Ryan and Wizz opened for me EU countries. 20-30 euros for a ticket is a super price for the one way trip. So I don`t see any reason to tell that lowcost airlines are awful. They have rules for cheap fares, I using that and totally sutisfied.
Regular flights is an odd claim. Looking at most destinations from London you'll find BA or another flag carrier will have many more flights at a variety of times throughout the day, a key element of how the legacy carriers can compete.

Low maintenance and minimum fuel are actually scaring. You may think there is an incident or a fire drill taking place but that is just the gates for Ryanair. The seats are hard enough to make people get off the plain as quick as possible. They still need to implement spikes on the walls so people won’t take nap and can buy more scratch cards. They can also bring their own cups to reduce costs and time. The seat pockets never stopped people from leaving their rubbish behind, now on the floor. Last time I flew it the seats didn’t have that space mentioned, nothing for me to rest my arms, my elbows on my lap all the time. The staff shouting through the speaker with their bad unintelligible English selling whatever, asking for donations, selling alcohol, nuts , reducing costs and your peace. I’d rather pay more and avoid flying Ryanair, the difference in prices is getting little, but the experience is much.

@@eamonryan2198 Eh, I've been in way too many RYR 738's with seatbelts so worn out I wonder if they were of any use to keep them on. If what you can see is worn out, imagine what you can't see. They probably do the bare minimum required by law and nothing more, and it has already happened many times to me that a 738 was flown on MEL and then had to come back because of equipment failure. Also they were already fined because they declared emergency due to them not carrying enough fuel to divert due to a storm, even though the storm was already predicted at the time they refuelled

That's useful for cross-continental flights, but it's not really relevant within Europe since Ryanair and the like don't do hubs and transiting via UK would normally mean leaving the Schengen area only to re-enter it at your destination.
I actually agree with Mr O'Leary on the toilet thing. People walking up and down are annoying. I also think childs tickets should cost more then adult tickets. I can't fault Ryanair as a service.
But they actually use jet bridges on places where they can't get other service such as the Swedavia airports in Sweden (Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö) and also airports in Spain 🤷🏼♂️
Ryanair is impressive but I like the Air Asia LCC model which allows passengers to just buy a seat like Ryanair or to prepay luggage, food etc and get something similar to a full service flight but still at a very economical price. The prepaid extras are not as expensive as they seem to be on Ryanair. Air AsiaX also has a Premium Flatbed Seat option on some longer flights which offers the main advantages of Business Class with much less expense.

I’m from Turkey and I live in NYC. I flew Ryanair a couple dozen times and never had any issues. I paid for what I needed and set my expectations accordingly. So efficient!

Speedy boarding is total nonsense unless you have health issues. Paying for a baggage if going for up to a week you shouldn't need it carry on all the way.

As a Portuguese in Luxembourg, Ryanair completely changed the game in 2005/06. Before that time, it was catastrophically expensive to go to Portugal by plane, so most immigrants would save their holidays for summer and Christmas to pick their cars as a cheaper option. Then ryanair started operating in Frankfurt Hahn (Germany), and it completely took it by storm. Suddenly people were going to Portugal every month for a bargain. It was so bad for the Luxembourg airport, that a few years later ryanair and easyJet started to operate there, and I’m almost certain that they have the highest flight rates there today.
Regardless of what everyone thinks of ryanair, they made immigrants lives so much better.
They're great. Here in Ireland they honestly offer flights that cost a 1/5 of the nearest competitor.

Good video, but I only miss an another part of the low cost formula: the working conditions for their employees on different bases and their insecurity about their future (bases can be closed quickly, strikes aren't allowed, court rulings are put aside).
No one works for Ryanair, everyone is a contractor. The ground staff at the airport will tell you "We don't work for Ryanair!" The pilots are all low time "beginning" pilots, who are paid low wages and are only there to build time so they can apply to the larger airlines, and work on a contract basis. Also, Ryanair doesn't have any hubs, so no pilots or crew overnight in hotels (or very few), they return home. Many of their ideas are inovative (a single aircraft type) but also, you will not be compensated from them when something goes wrong. If you have two connecting Ryanair flights and the first is late, too bad, you don't get compensation for missing your Ryanair flight, eventhough Ryanair was responsible. You have a return fligtht and the return is canceled? Too bad, Ryanair doesn't do return flights, they are all one way, you can reschedual (maybe for two or four weeks in the future) or get your money back, they will do nothing to get you home. Try to phone customer service? Ha ha ha ha! And remember, the price is not the price. You can only pay by card and you have to pay to pay. Oh yeah, it is free if you use a Ryanair credit card! Is the card free? Ha ha, of course not! Want to take more than a briefcase? Pay! If you have the choice of paying £25 more for another airline for the same flight, DO IT! Ryanair is cheap, until you have to pay £400 to get home, because Ryanair canceled your flight!

Even if a company defines a worker as an independent contractor, they may not fulfill criteria set by law for such a position. Using equipment owned by the employer and working on a schedule set by the employer typically voids the independent contractor status. In any case, the chapter on cost cutting should have included a bullet point on keeping down staffing cost (but not going into detail, as that would warrant a whole video by itself).
I used to work for Ryanair as cabin crew and I had a contract directly with them. It's true most people will start as contractors but depending on your position you will get contracted directly with them after a while. Yes it may not be the best airline to work for, but it has also perks that other airlines don't offer which suit a lot of people. For example as you said Ryanair crew always goes home, they don't do overnights. They have great roster patterns, with working 5 days being off for 3 which suits people with families and people who just don't want to wake up in a different city every day. Also there are great opportunities to grow in the company if you are willing to put down the work and you're not a lazy bumm. Yes it has many bad sides too, for both customers and crew but it is undeniable that it made air travel affordable for millions of people and it also employs around 20k people all around Europe.
I know they're terrible to work for but my god are they great for customers. Growing up in ireland and having hardly any money didn't matter I could travel to most European cities for 20 euro return. I know i shouldn't but I love them!!

Thanks to Ryanair I've been able to visit many European countries on a Balkan salary and see my friends and family often. Tourism in my country has increased thanks to the cheap flights, too. I've never had a problem with them and the longest flight has been 3 hours so a little discomfort is nothing if it means going to London for 40€. Wizzair, on the other hand, cancelled a flight mid-way through so that was fun.
Wizzair is much better than Ryanair, sucks that you got unlucky.
Worth noting SAS isn't just the Swedish flag carrier, as suggested at the beginning of the video. It's the joint carrier for Denmark, Sweden and Norway. (Reasonably minor error though.)

The thing is, Ryanair overall is just as safe as most other European airlines. And so, for me, it's like "Oh no, hard landings, 2 seconds of discomfort for a 100€ reduction in price, how awful"

A couple years ago I found Norwegian air to be the cheapest way to get from the US to Europe then Ryanair the cheapest way to get around Europe for vacationing.

Ryanair made every traveler's life much easier. Love them. I love how people like to complain but they never want to pay £150 + for a 1h flight to Europe on a legacy carrier. If you want seats that recline 2 inches more and airlines that offer 1 water and 1 snack for 3x the price be my guest. Even the food on-board Ryanair seems no more expensive than the prices you would find on the ground inside an European Airport.

When Ryanair set up their website. They were quoted 2 million pounds. They got IT student to create it for 20,000.

They went all-in on "everyone pays" for food and drink, on both ends. OG Ryanair would offer a complimentary orange juice. When O'Leary took over, one of the things he tried was going to their supplier and saying that instead of paying for the OJ, the supplier should instead be paying them for being the official juice of Ryanair, arguing that they were otherwise getting free advertising.
He really was serious about not paying for anything they didn't have to pay for.
From a business perspective, that's beyond genius! Name one other way, of getting your NAME brand around!
If the volume is reasonable and the supplier of those juices can miss the "lost revenue", I would have taken the deal.

One thing about fuel, every airline carries the least amount of fuel they can.
In ryanair usually you round up the legal minimum to the nearest 100 and then add another 100. So say your flight requires 7436 kg of fuel, you'd round it up to 7.5 tonnes and add another 100 kg to make it 7.6 tonnes. This is perfectly safe and literally every airline does it. The only time you carry extra fuel is when you're tankering (which is what you mentioned, say you're in Poland and fuel is really cheap you carry as much as you can) or when there are operational reasons such as weather that might delay your arrival.

They use a lift truck called an "ambulift". My wife has very limited mobility and we use it all the time. It's a pretty decent service and the airport porters and airline staff are always really helpful.

09:05 The toilet fee is not a joke. Toilets use a lot of space and they weigh a lot. If less people use them, you save a lot of costs. Most costs on Ryanair are there to make the flight more efficient. Why can't you check in at the airport? Because it costs a staff member!

I think this depends on where you are flying from, or whether the terminal location was changed prior landing. If possible, Ryan Air really don't use them. Flew with them many times, usually had to walk down the stairs to the plane. I don't mind it at all.

I have paid for myself, husband and two children on return flights from Dublin to Brussels, less than the cost of return train tickets from Limerick to Dublin. You get what you pay for. Luggage is a backpack because you can roll up your clothes. Fill up your bottle at the water fountain. I bring crisps, sandwiches and snacks through security checks. I have flown home from Brussels for €16.99. I had a backpack, bought no refreshments on-board and ate my snacks and drank free water.
In 2018 Ryanair Sun (Buzz) started to take over the charter flight market in Poland due to bancrupcy of Small Planet. Today Buzz operates a lot of charter flights mostly for TUI and Grecos, in the summer seanson. It has significantly increased the number of all Ryanair’s flights from airports like Katowice.

The fact that they NEVER use jet bridges is absolutely not true. In Vienna for instance they constantly use jet bridges. The one time I used Ryanair in the last 15 years, even I used a jet bridge to board the plane in Vienna

Such rubbish, I’ve flown Ryanair for at least 12 years and they have been the cheapest option on all but 2 occasions. Why? Because I pay for exactly what I need. Moreover despite mostly flying Ryanair I have had far more delays and cancellations with legacy airlines (tbf mostly on long haul flights)

Never used Ryanair. Only used Finnair. I guess you can probably guess where I'm from. Would rather pay the extra cash then fly in an aircraft like that, but I do understand if you don't have the money I guess it's a good choice. But, if you want a better flight and do have the extra money, I'd recommend Finnair/your countries flag carrier everyday of the week. Guess only exception would be if your countries flag carrier is bad?

It's not their business model and as other pointed out, their planes do not have the range.
But if you want to try longhaul on budget, try Scoot to Singapore (and remember to book their economy seats). Budget airlines are OK for up to 4-5 hours flight, but many prefer to pay extra for a full service airline on longer flights.
Ryanair don't have the intention to fly to those places and their planes don't have the range to those places.
AirAsia, VietJet and Cebu Pacific dominate those regions by the way.

I was sat in the seat in front of the toilets on a flight once and it really annoyed me as there was a queue for them the second the seatbelt light went off.

To be honest I grew up taking probably 90% of my flights with Ryanair but after 12+ years of taking that shitty company I am fed up on even trying to find an "affordable" and "cheap" flight 2 to 3 months prior of my flight just to save some money.
I am basically a only ItaAirways passenger nowadays since I can get a better airport, sit and service in general for 20/40€ more for ticket but at least I have more time to find an affordable ticket with Ita than with Ryanair. Also a better and more connected airport means less cost for taxi/busses/metro overall.

You missed out so much about how they keep their costs down. One of the major ways is through the way in which Ryanair contracts everything from airports to pilots. You missed out turn times (30 mins) as an aircraft in the ground is not making money. Watch how at a busy airport, when a Ryanair aircraft lands, fuel and baggage handling is already there. It seems that they get preferential treatment at most of the airports they fly to. If they don’t, they just leave and go to another small airport that is desperate to stay open and will accept the low fees that Ryanair will agree to. Crew: First Officers and cabin crew are poorly paid, just building hours and experience until they can get a better job. Captains are well paid as the company has no choice, but there are thousands of young people desperate for a job and Ryanair makes the most of this. Oh, the 737 type rating - pilots pay for it; uniforms as well. Pilots used to be (I’m not sure now) graded on how much fuel they use and have to explain to management if they take extra. Ryanair always carry the legal minimum fuel, not one kg extra as a heavier aircraft burns more fuel. I could go on, but you really missed out how aggressive Ryanair is as contract negotiator and as an employer. Lastly, look at how many of their pilots have a contract and how many are self employed - a nice National Insurance dodge for Ryanair if a pilot is self employed and less protection. Why do you think that Ryanair pilots have been trying so hard to unionise. Of course, I could be wrong and they now may be the best employer in the world.

The only problems was now China and Middle East began to snatch pilots all around the world and drive up demands so munch. Got a friend that switch to Chinese airlines early this year and he almost tripled his total earnings by basic wage alone. With bonuses it may very well more than quadrupled.
I have never fly abroad because it is expensive with regular airlines. Ryan and Wizz opened for me EU countries. 20-30 euros for a ticket is a super price for the one way trip. So I don`t see any reason to tell that lowcost airlines are awful. They have rules for cheap fares, I using that and totally sutisfied.

Regular flights is an odd claim. Looking at most destinations from London you'll find BA or another flag carrier will have many more flights at a variety of times throughout the day, a key element of how the legacy carriers can compete.

For example Air France flies many times a day from Dublin to Paris but it’s the only route they offer due to their hubs. Great for long haul flights for sure but not really a direct competitor to Ryanair who acts more like a bus service

I love Ryanair. I'm flying dublin to bologna Saturday. Cos less than 100 return. Love them.

Low maintenance and minimum fuel are actually scaring. You may think there is an incident or a fire drill taking place but that is just the gates for Ryanair. The seats are hard enough to make people get off the plain as quick as possible. They still need to implement spikes on the walls so people won’t take nap and can buy more scratch cards. They can also bring their own cups to reduce costs and time. The seat pockets never stopped people from leaving their rubbish behind, now on the floor. Last time I flew it the seats didn’t have that space mentioned, nothing for me to rest my arms, my elbows on my lap all the time. The staff shouting through the speaker with their bad unintelligible English selling whatever, asking for donations, selling alcohol, nuts , reducing costs and your peace.
I’d rather pay more and avoid flying Ryanair, the difference in prices is getting little, but the experience is much.
Sorry to disappoint you, but Ryanair do NOT skimp on maintenance or safety.
@@eamonryan2198 I know, or there would have been crashes already. When we hear about airplane maintenance and fuel that is what comes to mind, but the video referred more about facilites.
@@eamonryan2198 Eh, I've been in way too many RYR 738's with seatbelts so worn out I wonder if they were of any use to keep them on. If what you can see is worn out, imagine what you can't see. They probably do the bare minimum required by law and nothing more, and it has already happened many times to me that a 738 was flown on MEL and then had to come back because of equipment failure.
Also they were already fined because they declared emergency due to them not carrying enough fuel to divert due to a storm, even though the storm was already predicted at the time they refuelled
@@MrOpenGL the airline industry is very heavily regulated, "the bare minimum maintenance" of a plane is orders of magnitude more thorough and often than any other device like a car or a ship
@@666Tomato666 that doesn't mean people don't cut corners. There are plenty of examples of that in the airline industry.
Funnily enough for Europe, the UK has the best airline hub infrastructure and cheapest fares to travel across the continent
That's useful for cross-continental flights, but it's not really relevant within Europe since Ryanair and the like don't do hubs and transiting via UK would normally mean leaving the Schengen area only to re-enter it at your destination.
I actually agree with Mr O'Leary on the toilet thing. People walking up and down are annoying. I also think childs tickets should cost more then adult tickets. I can't fault Ryanair as a service.

But they actually use jet bridges on places where they can't get other service such as the Swedavia airports in Sweden (Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö) and also airports in Spain 🤷🏼♂️

We have our own version of Ryanair. It is called Spirit Airlines. Frontier is basically our version of Wizzair.
Ryanair is impressive but I like the Air Asia LCC model which allows passengers to just buy a seat like Ryanair or to prepay luggage, food etc and get something similar to a full service flight but still at a very economical price. The prepaid extras are not as expensive as they seem to be on Ryanair. Air AsiaX also has a Premium Flatbed Seat option on some longer flights which offers the main advantages of Business Class with much less expense.
