  • Wondering what it takes to learn to ride an electric unicycle? Most people can learn, but it is like picking up a new skill similar to learning how to ride a bike. You can do it by yourself, and you just need a little practice.
    Featured in the video: Glide 3 (now known as InMotion V8) with protective cover. Available at www.euco.us/products/inmotion...

      @Direct Netstores I broke a wrist on a hoverboard after my friend told me "just step off" (because he failed to mention not to step off in a forward direction). This guy in the video is saying exactly the same bullshit without telling you how hard these things can sweep under your feet in a blink of an eye if you're not warned about how powerful these things accelerate when you don't want them to.

    BEST learning video I've seen so far. I just started today (55 year old guy) and was able to actually ride consistently. After stopping and reviewing some vids, this one applies best to me. I think the most valuable part was the portion where you did the one foot for extended distances with light touchdowns and emphasizing the body positions.

    Good tips. Especially when you talk about posture. I am still in beginner mode. At age 58, I am been trying for an hour a day for about a week. I am really good at making a circle, but still need to work on foot control. I have to be more careful than most, so yea I have all the safety gear. Admittedly I look a little nerdy, but my safety is more important than trying to look glamorous. I can taste victory coming and I can't wait.

    I found that just relaxing and NOT looking at the ground right in front of your wheel or staring at the cycle was the biggest help. I learned that from many seasons as a ski instructor. And trying to go slow to avoid an accident is the worst thing, like a motorcycle or 2 wheel bike that is one of the hardest things to do.

    • @hvguy
      @hvguy 2 роки тому

      In motorcycle training they teach you to look at where you wanna go. We often do this by instinct when driving a car but for some people it won't transfer into other skills such as this.
      We often don't even notice we're doing it 🐱

  • @rcgldr

    For some riders (including me), it is easier to use support to mount and launch to learn to ride first (yaw and tilt steer) before trying to free mount. Since I learned to ride first, I didn't (and still don't) one foot glide, just step and hop on like a skateboard. However, based on this and other videos, a lot of new riders do just fine with the one foot drills and step and tap method, although it seems like it would be more tiring. Another issue is for an experienced motorcycle rider (I started back in 1966, but it wasn't till 1968 that I was properly counter-steering, I'm 70 years old), where you learn that looking isn't going to turn a motorcycle, only (counter) steering inputs. To prepare for lane changes, I"m looking to the side and back while going straight, and also looking to the side for cross traffic at intersections. One of my early goals when learning to ride my V8F was to be able to move my arms and|or look around without upsetting balance or changing direction.

      John Haig I’m impressed. I’m 62 and thought I would be the oldest rider I ever saw on a V8. For turning, I’d suggest getting used to tilting the wheel left or right to turn, or use your shoulders and turn them in the direction you want to go, or a little or both. I find it extremely helpful to look exactly where I want to go, even if I’m going in a straight line. Good luck!

    OK, wow, one thing to note about the short pushing-off movements with only one leg on the wheel: you absolutely need side-padding where your shin rests against the chassis, because that thing will not support you while you lift your other leg off the ground unless you're tilting it and leaning significant weight into it through your shin. Without padding this exercise will get painful real fast and you will not get to the phase where you can make longer and longer distances with one leg in the air.

    Just got mine - my first wheel but I owned a Segway i2 for several years. I know this is different and I’m nervous, but I was once nervous about all of my e-rideables. I told myself that when deciding to get this. I always start holding something, then the next thing ya know, i don’t need to hold anything. Same with this. Day one (indoors only) and I don’t need to hold anything to get on or off. Day 2 and I’m able to roll about a foot before hopping off. My goal is to learn it by summer and right now it’s winter, so no rush.
