It always amazes me how a quick pressure washer makes everything look so much newer. You could flip both for $1000 or more just from the cleanup.
Compression should be around 150, however it is entirely unlikely that all 4 cylinders on 2 engines are underperforming exactly the same. The fact that they were all within a few psi of 90 says they are all in good condition and your gauge reads low.
I have heard the cheep gauges like I would get from harbor freight also read lower than actual compression, as much as 30 psi lower. just to keep in mind.
Engine been sitting after it runs and the rings re seat I gaurantee it’ll compression test 150 or higher now
Yep, you did the compression test incorrectly. Choke off and throttle wide open then do the test. Great deal for 500 dollars.
@Jaden Emmanuel Nope. No one gives a shit. BTW, she's cheating on you.
Yeah, you gotta have the throttle open. In my experience. I believe it wont pull enough air through the closed butterflys to get accurate pressure in the cylinder. BUT these are 2stroke, not sure if its the same, but common sense says it would be?
As someone trying to do this myself I absolutely love the jet ski content!!! Keep it coming!
The “stress cracks” could just be cracks in the gel coat
I was thinking the same.
You should invest in a better compression tester, the harbor freight ones are almost always junk.
yup. I have the same one and its off by around 10 pounds at 90psi. By what I see and knowing the HF compression tester, your pressures are fine and normal for a 30 year old engine.
If you block off the oil pump and run premix you will still have to keep the two big oil lines conected to the motor, that is the rotary valve bath oil
Second this. We always converted to pre-mixed. Less hassle down the line, and one less moving part to fail on the water. Does make 'topping up the tank' harder, since you have an extra step and need to keep a mixing bottle around, but much more reliable imo.
haven't even saw the whole video and already can say $500 is a great deal
Compression test was done as it should. I’d invest in a better tester because I’ve found the harbor freight coolant leak testers and compression testers tend to stick and give inaccurate readings. But that being said, 90 for a two-stroke seadoo motor is good. You generally want to see the compression in all cylinders all the same and within spec. Which is 110psi-90psi. Your skis were in spec and almost the exact same +-1psi. You got an excellent deal!
When doing the compression test, you have to hold the throttle open while you crank it (or do it now while carbs are off). Also, on the one you took out on the water, now that you have run it a bit, try compression check again. Sometimes after sitting a while, the piston rings can stick and will free up after running. Of course, make sure your pressure gauge is accurate.
Dude, there's a huge market for restored vintage waverunners.
People who grew up on them love to get them for nostalgia.
I've rebuilt a few of those engines.
They're seriously easy to rebuild.
A whole lot easier than rebuilding an aircraft engine which I did in the Coast Guard and on my Dad's airplane.
My nieces husband does about 20 a year and makes a killing at it.
It goes a long way to paying to keep his fleet of rental Waverunners brand new every other year.
Yessssss keep the jetski builds coming heck yesss!
Hey! I have the same crappy GTX with promise of life! Let’s do these!
eBay has been my friend to add needed parts for the GTX
@@markd1199 likewise, I’m waiting on for some 2000 GTX worx sponsons to appear on eBay to buy them!
@@Eddyte wouldn’t recommend
@@drayz8818 you’ve heard bad things ? Or you’ve had bad experience?
Any time you do a compression test you need to hold the throttle wide open. This allows the cylinder to fully fill up with air.
I vote for origins graphics I love the color schemes of the 90s as well.
Anyone can find jet skis in these colours, if it was me, each of them would be custom.
You are really good at what you do Zac, make them your own. 🇬🇧👍🏻
I agree
On this 2 stroke engines you still have to have 2 stroke oil on the oil tank to lube the bottom gear on the engine. You can pree mix all you want but need to keep the 2 stroke oil in the tank and the big hose that goes to the bottom of the engine. IF YOU DONT BROKEN MOTOR. 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Only on seadoos
No u don’t😂
@@louisluckett4160 lol go ahead keep believing that. It's what keeps me in buisness.
It would cool to see a total overhaul. Engine removal, rebuilding, glass repair and repainting. I think you're doing great things here, keep up the good work.
Really enjoyed the video, I think you got a heck of a deal on the two JetSki’s. I hope you enjoy them for a long time, you deserve it. Thanks for sharing such an awesome video.
Love the videos man! Few things to keep in mind with those skis, the two large oil lines going to the bottom of the motor need to be connected and filled with oil. Some guys leave the stock oil tank in place or you can also loop them together making sure they are filled with 2 stroke oil and just keep an eye on it, in theory it shouldn't burn that oil if your seals are good. Another thing to keep in mind is even when you have a hose hooked up don't run them too long on land. Those models have a plastic thru-hull fitting that get wore out over time and they can melt if they get too hot without water cooling them, the replacement metal ones are much better. Finally, a leakdown test on these old engines is a very good idea. Without a leakdown test you won't know if your crankseals are pulling in unmetered air and overtime it will burn up the engine.
You are becoming a jet ski pro, always interesting to find out what someone's definition of "running" is, but I bet you will get them back up to like new.
Love your videos, you are a super cool guy. Keep on keepin on!
Great deal, and definitely go with Miami Vice colors
Great content.
Please don’t forget to repack/replace wheel bearings on the trailer.
Check tire date.
Replace if more than 4 years old and cracked
The compression was fine. The engines were cold and you didn't have the throttle wide open. Once they warm up, it will have more compression. Hold the throttle wide open as well while cranking it for compression
I think the 90s style is very cool, I would love to see all those details restored.
Really good buy. I have a 1995 GTX as well. Amazing how hard the Florida weather is on them. I'm sure they get used a lot more than up here in the north. Looks like they cleaned up really well.
Yes! They're SeeDoo's so they're definitely worth it! I'd paint them black & keep the colors of the decals but using new decals.
Great deal and great content, compression test should be done with throttle open for future reference.
Keep boat and jet ski vids coming they are the best !
Zack I absolutely love ur channel!! I wld be heartbroken if u ever stopped YouTubing..
thanks for all the entertainment! You do beautiful work!
awesome to see you dipping your feet into the jetski world... maybe a standup ski in the future?
I was sad to see the other jetski go too. But I'm happy now u got 2 of them!!
Yeah, commenting as I watch- Wow, what a difference just pressure washing made!
You have skills! Don't stop, God bless!
I definitely like the idea of keeping the original look. There’s ton of new fancy ones but i don’t know the last time I saw a pristine 90’s model
AAA Jet ski shop down in Miami bought an all original with 20hrs bombadiar they got it from a guy in Orlando he kept it in a garage all it’s life and the ski doesn’t have one scratch it’s incredible
@@-prada-9232 That’s awesome
I redid a 96 seadoo xp last summer on my channel. Cool to see other people making jetski videos like this
90’s styling is for sure the move imo. For sure good looking. I’d also snap on $500 if I had your knowledge and skills
Here in the UK we use a product called y10 , one application will remove all that yellowing, see if you can get it your side if not hit me up ill send a pot over to you from my work, great videos mate really enjoy watching your stuff !
Make sure you open the throttle to full to allow air in when doing the compression check.
best videos ever! i like your jetski rebuilds video do more :) keep it up
I know all about coming across a deal that is so great, even if you don't need it, you can't pass it by-practically giving it away.
I’ve worked on a few of these so just a couple of tips, but the starter fluid isn’t very good to use on two strokes it doesn’t have the lubrication that the rings need not a huge deal but a genuine mikuni carb rebuild works well. Those deals are hard to find good luck
Love the idea of old school. Excited for ya brother and for future vids.
Yes, more jet-skis! What was in the pressure sprayer? Looks like that alone cleaned a lot!
My guess would be bleach and water
The idea of restoring to original is super cool. Can’t wait
I second the guy that said it's the gauge. Those Pittsburgh gauges aren't known for being good gauges.
Keep up the good videos
The stress cracking in the front is no biggie but i would reccomend checking the bottom side of it just in case.
You're getting better at making outros and intros man, keep it up !!
Can’t wait to see the finish results of these Doos.
Nice for the price Cant beat that
Definitely would go with custom paint and decals. Old school with a new school look.
If you were planning to go out in groups you should add a linq system from seadoo where you can carry more fuel coolers or extra space I think it will be a good idea
Good work my man $500 is a score" and you were asking if you should customize the skis' do the little one and go original with the bigger one, and again great score on those two skis.👍👍👋👋
Depends on if you plan to keep or sell these on the subject of the graphics - if you plan to keep then either do both with the 90's graphics if you plan to sell one or both I'd "update" the look. Also, from what I've seen on YT those compression /pressure testers give strange results - unless compression seems to be an issue may not be worth trying to resolve with a rebuild - you certainly have enough "room" in the budget if you had to rebuild... As always a great video!
Initially the Rotax engine should be good for 300-450 hours or 12 years.
Once I complete an overhaul and rebuild the crankshaft with all new parts, including connecting rods with 2 oil slots, and you run premix @ 40 to 1 or oil injection & add 3.2 ounces of oil to every 5 gallons of gas, you can run the engine to 450 hours.
Do them up to match the pontoon boat. They would look great towing behind.
Use $1 store toilet bowl cleaner to clean the hulls. It will take the yellow right off!
Yes “the works” from the dollar tree works great
@@jackbalmforth8181 💯..... works is great stuff!
Florida seems like a magical place for jet skis
Omg yesssss jet ski build again I love this channel
Need to join the Florida Ski Riders, good luck with these.
Im waiting for more videos like this! I loved!!
Dude I’m pretty sure in another life, we would’ve definitely been best friends haha. Keep up the good content👊
You did the compression test right - after running them a while you should retest and see it pick up some compression as the rings free up and oil finds its way into the cylinders. I would be more concerned about the water in the cylinders - I dont think the water pushed out of the cylinders was from pressure washing, I would check again after being in the lake, my guess is the crankcase needs to be drained and the exhaust elbow is cracked and leaking. In any case - Great deal Zach and have fun!
something to try with compression test is throw a little 2 cycle oil in the cylinders that will seal the rings better obviously they've been sitting so cylinders are dry should bring them up to 110-120psi
Can’t wait for this series!
Did you buy them from the guy with the "castle"? XD
Do you mean Andrew?😂
Andrew Camarata
Andrew owns like 20 skis 😂
He is in New york
@@michaelcorbo6458 Ik lol kinda far from Florida
Wow what a big difference after a wash.
Nice buy!
I would love to see them restored to their former glory
Bought a $500.00 94 XP ..20 + hours rebuilding later I have a new vintage 2 Stroke ski for 2021 Summer ..
Was pretty good deal indeed. I personaly do not like the color scheme, but I like having a lots of colors. But either way if you like it I will.
I think the small one you should do all original 90's theme, not necessarily the original colors but see which color schemes were available and choose one. The larger jet ski do custom!
numbers for the compression test isn't the most important thing its more important that both cylinders are making similar numbers. that tells you that the cylinder dont have any issues
Yeah I have the same gauge it always reads really low your compression readings were totally fine I would add about 40 psi to that gauge
Good old dependable. I need a couple of carburetors for my old merc.2 stroke. Bass boat.
today's florida man headlines: Florida man on seadoo frenzy; authorities say it's a sweet deal
only thing the harbor freight compression kit is good for is the hose and adapters. Junk the gauge and get a decent one. I learned the hard way on that as well.
Keep the original paint scheme / decals, totally agree with the grocery store cups, these redone and new looking will look great!
Good find of jet skis and double place trailer. Word of advice though, almost always buy an AGM(Absorbed Glass Matt) battery for jet skis. The Lead-Acid batteries that you purchased for them will not last due to the vibrations and design of it. AGM prevents plates from moving and creates a longer more reliable battery. It will pay for itself when it lasts 3+ years and not the usual 1 year with a Lead-Acid.
All my wet batteries in all my jet skis, motorcycles, boats, lawn mower, welder, vehicles last 8 to 10 years. Always keep them topped off with a battery tender each month especially in the off season. N.E. Ohio, so weather isn't as tough as hot Fl. weather. Hot weather is a killer on batteries more then cool weather as is over charging. Never charge over 1.25 amps for maintenance.
Hook up the oil injection. Makes them much easier to maintain.
This dude deserves more subscribers for his work and dedication. He gained a subscriber (me) in this video 😃😃
Maybe do the compression test after the engine is heated up and keep the colors and graphics near original. The stress cracks will probably be okay with some new gelcoat.
Awesome vid mate 🤙
A great cleaning combination for boats and boat vinyl is LA’s Awesome cleaner and Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. A quart of Awesome is only a buck or two at the Dollar Store and goes a long way. It cleans quickly and easily. That’s all we use to deep clean our Pontoon and bass boat at the end of each season.
Another great project!
To see how big the engines are look at that black sticker by the orange grounding bar, larger the number larger the engine
Spi was a mid grade model that fell between the spx and the sp, the gtx line works the same way with the gti and gt. The spx's of the mid to later 90s were essentially the previous year's xp which had a 720 engine. I'm guessing you had the same engine that the 94 xp had which was a 650. The knob on the right side should be gas on, gas off, and reserve. Good luck, fun skis.
3:35 The orange thing is actually a spot for a fire extinguisher. Every PWC must have one, at least here in Maryland.
Great deal for sure. I think you should go with your costume just like the last one, so everyone will know that your style 😉
Sweet pickup. You have to do the retro 90s graphics
Hey, for the fiberglass cracks, I would use a Dremel and make them bigger... Then use a product that I used from the company Totalboat that will fill the cracks then you paint over with gelcoat. The product is called there 2 part epoxy. It is a blue and yellow putty that I love
They spi is a two seater BUT they are extremely tipsy. I have a 1993 XP 687cc and the moment you try to load a passenger it will flip. So thankfully you have more then one jetski to go out with and have fun.
They are very quick to spin around. You will see. The first time I took mines out after restoring I took it out and took a turn way to quick and I flew one way the jetski another and my glasses another. That one ride cost me about $400 to order new glasses. Lol
Good job buddy!
LoL! Famous last words, "Suppose to run". Haven't you heard that before?
big fan of the 90’s graphics on those
I don't have boats, but I love your channel and admire your work ethic. Please take this criticism the correct way: At 16:57 you put your hands where no hands should ever go when loading a trailer onto the hitch. One slip and you'll be missing a few digits. Keep up the good work - this is a very interesting channel.
Paint them matching theme and decals with the corresponding models! and paint the trailer black!!!!
Great deal for 500, build them how you want to i will watch lol 😆
Custom Work would be killer on them. Try to match the Pontoon Boat. 💯🔥👍
Great deal!
Use a light sandpaper on the purple part of the stearing column, itll clear out at least all the clumps.
