I really like what Timex are doing lately. This watch is absolutely on the money. I think they are reading the market perfectly. With phones and smartwatches, many people don't want a watch at all - those that do, want a nice one - and Timex are giving us what we want. The Q range, and the Waterbury's, at very reasonable prices are really cool, and for those who want a hand-wind or auto, the Marlins and Galli and this are definitely worth a look. I notice UK entry level brand Accurist are also doing some automatics - aiming at the enthusiast rather than the casual supermarket buyer.
I really didn't need another $300 watch with a Miyota in it. Nothing wrong with Miyota: I've just already got a couple of them. However, I ordered this watch a couple of days ago because I just cannot believe it's a TIMEX. It's a cool looking original design, doesn't look remotely like anything else, as well as being a repairable automatic, well it's just the complete opposite of everything I associate with the brand, other than being affordable which it is. I think this is one that deserves to be in a collection, if only for the novelty and originality. I'm actually kind of excited about it.
I like it a lot. This is one that you'd feel good about on the wrist every day. I'd like to see if they come out with any different color schemes. $289 isn't bad, but for where I'm at financially I couldn't justify that current day.
This watch speaks to me, from a design perspective. Also, I have a Myota 8 series in my Citizen Promaster and find it to be a reliable workhorse....it deserves a little love and not sure why the internet likes to bash the series.
How is an acryic crystal supposed to protect against scratches and scruffs when it takes over the bezel's job? Should have been sapphire if they wanted to go this route.
Acrylic is used for aesthetic purposes instead of functionality as it captures the vintage look watches had many decades ago. It WILL scratch and scuff, it is what it is. Have a tube of polywatch handy at all times.
Agreed, timex are a joke when it comes to pricing! You can get SO much more for your money elsewhere.. wouldn’t waste my money that’s for sure! Even Aragon have a sale and you can get twice the watch this is for half the price 😂
I think it's really good looking, and the curved crystal is a nice gimmick I guess. What I don't like about it is that subdial with a 24-hour indicator. Seems useless to me. Why do that and not a sub-seconds?
Very lovely watch. I think given how prominent and exposed the glass is, I'd maybe prefer sapphire, since this thing is definitely, inevitably going to get scuffed. Also, while I absolutely love the texture of the woven band, I wish they offered a few other color options. Anyway, very tempted to save up for this, though I would rather see it closer to $200.
It's actually quite a good looking watch. Definitely something a little different. I don't mind acrylic but in this case it's such a large piece and actually does the job of being the view piece and the bezel feels like it's inevitably going to be scratched a lot...that's a lot of poly watch you will need. But it does make it look cool. Although wait until Timex does the Chrono version of this watch aka the Timex Glassbox. :) It does look good and unique at this price point, not too bad.
I like the glass, very nice finish dial and subdial, with date at 6 would have been even better, also a double brins fabric strap would have not add thickness. For me it's a may be purchase. Although I dislike the 19mm strap size, a real deal breaker to not be able to use my 20mm straps on it. If I take it, buy a good leather, may be in gold brown, will add a third of the initial price to the all.
At first glance it looks like it's missing a bezel. My second thought is that crystal is going to be a scratch magnet. I guess overall it looks semi-premium but not my thing. Also, not sure I trust Timex for its value proposition in general and its looks over substance ethos in its lower priced watches.
Looked good right up to the point where you mentioned acryllic crystal. Can't understand why watch companies still insist on using anything but sapphire crystal... deal breaker for me.
Great review, a good looking watch from Timex, not sure about the name that they use it as Marlin and do agree looks abit like missing bezel from the top but then when you show it on your wrist definately change my mind its beautiful.
What absolutely ridiculous is that is a fantastic looking watch. It’s as good looking as watches that cost 20/30 times the price. The design is fantastic.
Well. The 24h sub dial would really make sense if it has date window, wouldn't it? It is handsome as it is, but imagine if there's no 24 subdials in this design.
Im looking at this watch on the Timex website right now. I can't decide if the crystal looks cool or bizarre as the entire watch face looks like it's freestanding inside the dome.
The dimensions are right up my alley, but having "Marlin" on the dial, as well as the chapter ring(??) Please tell me its not on the crystal! Does look a bit overkill and crap!
scrolling through comments: lot of people asking about the functionality of the sub-dial is it purely for aesthetics or can you mark a separate time-zone ?
They surely could have release a version with diffrent function as subdial. 24H subdial is fine in some places, Canada, further more Alaska or maybe Finland, Norway, all those place where sometime there is sunlight for 20 hours a day so it's useful to know if it's a.m or p.m.
I have Bulova buy Timex. It is a privately held company and they care about quality and price. I think you mistake the range of products they offer. First company to illuminate the watch face.
I don't like the curved crystal. This thing would be epic with a Rolex day date fluted bezel. Ditch the 24 hour marker to save costs and reduce complications.

The 'crystal' looks like a scratch magnet and yes it looks like the bezel fell off. It may be affordable compared to other watches but for a Timex it's overpriced.
At $289, I’ll pass. I see a $100 watch, if that. Edit: after watching the vid again after Ben's response, perhaps I am being a bit too harsh. I understand these are Timex's premier models, but at the end of the day, it is still a Timex with a miyota movement. I suppose I am more interested in the cheap watches priced around $50 and under vs. their higher end models. I just can't justify spending that much on a Timex.
Fair enough. Personally I disagree, but each to their own. The watch does look better in person, I'll do a better job of the b-roll footage in the full review 👍
@@In_The_Loupe look forward to it; I noticed this watch when it first came out. Thinking about buying it, i know the case is stainless steel, but somehow it appears a bit plasticy on your camera, dont know why?

This watch is too expensive for me to justify purchasing, but I have 3 Timex watches I got used at a great price. I love Timex watches.
that rotor is so smooth especially for the price point
I have been looking at Timex in a different light lately , great presentation ! Keep up the great work !
I’ve got to say that’s gotta be the most handsome Timex watch I’ve seen from their recent crop of releases (reasonably priced too.)
This has a great look. You could swap that band with anything and it would still look great.
Love the look of this one. Really beautiful design.
Love this video format. Thanks Ben!
i like this bauhaus design, its like nomos but with less price
I just hope TImex don't go jacking up the prices like Seiko.

It's not a chronograph! The subdial on this one is set to 24 hours just to show night and day (aka military time).
@@DD-ix3bm I understand that. That's why I said I found it a bit useless.

That dial reminded me of the Carl Suchy Waltz No. 1
Timex has really been stepping up their designs lately, however 19mm lugs is just infuriating

Love it!.. but just the watch coming out of position when opening the box oh no 😅... but apart from that,.. it is a lovely timepiece!
I'm loving the offset sub second hand.
Acrylic crystal, tasty.

Well. The 24h sub dial would really make sense if it has date window, wouldn't it? It is handsome as it is, but imagine if there's no 24 subdials in this design.
Can you move the sub dial hand independently? Like for GMT function?
A surprisingly nice looking watch.

Can the 24 hour function reference a second time zone?
It’s not even done correctly either. “24” isn’t a time

Is it Ben's watch club twin channel? 😅
scrolling through comments: lot of people asking about the functionality of the sub-dial

Seems to be just a standard 24 hour complication as far as I can tell, probably doesn't allow for anything like that I'd guess.
That's a very pretty watch

Does it have a ghost date position ?

I don't think you can set the sub dial to a different time zone. That would have been a great subtle feature.

Should have had sapphire crystal at this price. A damn ali express watches can provide sapphire in £50 watch
Yeah, and they’re generic crystals, not customized shapes like this. To grind this shape out of sapphire would cost more than you think.
