How NOT to make a Delrin replacement lead nut for mill - 02 May 2024 (Update)

Since I had a lot of backlash on my Y axis on the mill, I thought I would have a go at making a replacement Delrin lead nut - following others other who have attempted this before - Part 3
After all the efforts, I decided to delay changing over to a Delrin lead nut on the Y axis on my mill as I have reassembled old lead nut and with less backlash than before. I will probably change all the axis to Delrin lead nut later as all the axis backlash are pretty bad with the Z axis being the worse due to I guess the bevel gear being used. In the process of making the Delrin lead nut I learnt a few things, the main one is you need to heat up the lead screw really hot before pressing the two halves onto the screw .. and also it's better to well lubricate the lead screw area where the Delrin halves will be placed so it can be removed more easily - there are other techniques to make the nut screw easily on the thread which I'll try at a later date - The main point is I know the process now and it should be quite easy to make on the next attempt.
