    It's been a while since I've hit the skyway, man. This is a great video! I used cut pinfish to catch a redfish and a tarpon at my fishing spot last saturday. First time for both! Got the baby juvie tarpon first then the red maybe an hour or so, roughly, later. All under a popping cork. I had something attacking my bait, so i reeled in the bait, under a cajun thunder, and the tarpon came out of nowhere and smacked it. Was really fun until the line to the hook went. 20# seagar fluoro vs a 15 lb tarpon...ya... didn't work out too well. Love your vids, man. Keep up the good work! (ive only started just recently fishing for these fish, honestly. I have no boat and go where my truck and feet can take me. no yak either. not yet, anyways).

    It's funny how different species of fish all have the same predatory habit. Those are the same places I'd look to find a bass in a lake

      They really do, I think we over complicate how to find them. Water flow, food, cover and oxygen.

    Every time I free line a bait out there it ends up getting picked off the hook by the dolphins haha, is there anything I can do about this?

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  5 років тому +1

      Dolphins can make it very challenging. Get the bait out 80 yards, try whitebait and cut bait also.

    • @davidmurray6176

      Get some hot sauce that melts your face and inject it into bait. Once the dolphin snag a couple they will learn to leave your fishing area alone. I used to live in Pinellas Park and fish the skyway pier and hit rock piles off a boat along the beaches.I never use cut bait always live or lures.

    Grouper fishing is not a light tackle sport , especially off the skyway. When the South Pier first opened you could count on catching a couple keeper Gags and some monster Mangroves if you went out with the proper tackle. 50-80 lb for gags, 20-40 for Mangroves.
    After about 2 - 3 months of people going out with 8lb spinning rigs,there was so much line tangled up in every thing it was hard to drag a fish out.
    It's you responsibility to not liter the area with mono line.
