Look at what Shoestring left us. What a incredible legacy. Proof positive that you don't need a lot of money to be happy and successful. He traveled more miles in one year that many will for their entire lives.
The ghost of Hobo Shoestring will be seen on every rail line in North America forever. If you ever need a ride or a good story, Hobo Shoestring will appear for eternity with his smile and gentleness.
Somehow someway his report about him being found. I have never seen or heard anything about him before. So I searched his vids and stopped on this one. My question is, is this video one of his very last videos that he put out??
As someone who found Shoestring on a random 3am rabbit hole during the COVID days, always loved the videos you posted. You took me places of the world I can’t go and showed me a lifestyle I loved to experience through you. RIP Shoestring
This is Shoestring's final video. Thank you for the years of interesting, informative videos about living outdoors and on the rails. They calmed a lot of people's minds. Calmed a lot of nerves. The Bob Ross of Hobos some might say. In this final video, he mentions that he is happy that his videos help all of those who are sick. Mark was a lot sicker in physical health than most people realize. He did the best that he could with the hand he was dealt. An unusual, exciting life he lived. He meant no harm to anyone. He was what he was. A kind soul at his core. If you were close to him or a big fan of his videos, let's celebrate his life and be happy. That's what he would have wanted. RIP Shoestring. Your spirit is still here, riding the rails forevermore. Every time i see a freight train rolling down the tracks while driving in my car, I'll always remember him.
Your right about him being sick it was obvious how fatigue he was at times. He dealt with one serious health issue after another, yet always remained hopeful he was going to be able to hop out soon. I wonder if he received a bad diagnosis when he went to the hospital and he just had enough. I will miss shoestring alot. His best video for me was when he went to Alaska. It was so cold. Sad he never made it back.
I can't add much other than to say I rewatched almost all his videos this week concentrating mostly on the camp and rail side content. It was like meeting him all over again. His spirit and redemption from his devils was an inspiration for this struggling guy. I will continue to watch and be inspired by the freedom Mark represented. All love to his family I will be at his funeral no matter what.
Hobo Shoestring was quite possibly the most famous hobo in America next to Lecil Travis Martin (aka) Box Car Willie. If ever a man could blend in with a grey covered hopper car and seem to climb down, out of the paint, it'd be Mark. Hobo Shoestring will be missed! ❤

Mark was very happy and proud of his success. We can find comfort in the knowledge that we helped Mark to achieve his dream just by watching his videos. Thank you, Shoestring, for sharing your adventures with us.

@@ImBoonesMe too, and I was shocked. But now after a couple days thinking about it I’ve decided that if Shoestring was gonna go, he would have wanted it to have been like this, out on his own, kind of a mystery as to what actually happened….. not laying in a bed unable to get out on the road or something like that. So I’m counting it as a blessing for him. But as for me….I’m sad as hell about it! RIP Shoestring.

One of the best friends I never met.
"Brother jukebox , sister wine. Mother freedom, father time. Since she left me by myself, You're the only family I've got left."
Fair winds and following seas (to mix a metaphor)and an open boxcar to keep you out of the weather.
Hand Salute... (ships bell)... Shoestring departing... (Que the lonesome train horn in the middle of the night)
May peace be upon you.
The signal to heaven is clear, legend. Thank you for everything.
He's on that Wabash Cannonball

This man had more class than any politician that ever lived, given a choice I would vote for hobo " Shoestring",
Thank you for the honest entertainment....R.I.P
He was too loving to get involved with politics. He would never try to decide what’s best for other people. Not disagreeing with you, only adding perspective.
Sincerely hope that Mark will be found safe & well. Times like these you realise just exactly how loved & respected he is. Be safe brother.
My hearts broken and heavy tonight. It just doesn't feel like this is reality. I promise to always remember and honor you. Your legacy will go on. Thank you for everything you have done and all the hours you left behind for us to share and cherish. Love you shoestring. We all love and miss you so much.
He's in God's arms now. Rest easy old timer. Lord knows you earned it.
Yesterday I drove over a railroad track in my car . And in the siding we’re Cadillac grainers . Started crying right there . I did not know mark other than watching his videos when recovering from bad motorcycle accident. But felt like I’d lost a life long friend . Can’t really explain it , but felt like I’d known him personally. Thank you shoestring . You helped and saved so many people. God speed and I’ll think of you every time I see or hear a train . I wish we could have been there for you! As you were for all of us .
Exactly how I feel
Same 💔
RIP Shoestring! The Railroading community has lost a member!! Say hi to Hobo Stobe for us all!!
So sad to hear the news😢 I hope this channel can stay up in his memory. He was like family to many people from all over. ❤
Rest in peace, Shoestring. Thanks for bringing me along on some of your journeys, it was great.
RIP Shoestring !!!! You will be greatly missed . Your videos have been wonderful to watch .
Well shit. I was just thinking i havent seen anything from HS lately, came here, and damn. RIP SHOESTRING. It was great listening to your stories and watching your travels.
Im here doing the same thing just finding out the shitty news
@@ImBoonesMe too, and I was shocked. But now after a couple days thinking about it I’ve decided that if Shoestring was gonna go, he would have wanted it to have been like this, out on his own, kind of a mystery as to what actually happened….. not laying in a bed unable to get out on the road or something like that. So I’m counting it as a blessing for him. But as for me….I’m sad as hell about it! RIP Shoestring.
Miss you Hobo. Glad you documented your amazing life. R.I.P.
Gut punch, Hobo Shoestring thanks for the adventures, you were one of a kind, I'll miss you stranger. My condolences to family, friends, and YT community.
Shoestring and Stobe, together at last, riding the rails, seeing the most beautiful scenery there is. Two beautiful souls. RIP

I am from Argentina, and I literally live 3 blocks away from a rail only used by cargo trains. Each time one of these big boys passes by, here is someone that thinks on you Mark, and whishes you well, wherever you are, nothing but good thoughts and energy. You did accomplished so much more than many of us, by just being yourself and letting us breathe the clean air you enjoyed in your videos by this strange media for many of us was an scape in times of darkness. World wasn´t entirely fair with you but be sure clean souls like yours are meant to dwell in a good place. That´s a thought that warms our heart, for little it might seems.
I hope you're safe somewhere Shoestring and I hope you come home soon. We all love you man.
Very fitting last video with Shoestring telling stories one last time. R.I.P. thanks for the knowledge you shared with all of us.
This is the last video we will get the privilege of seeing the wisdom you left for us thank you shoestring for everything you taught us R.I.P. Mark shoestring

“He was only a hobo but one more is gone” Bob Dylan. I rode the rails in the sixties, I remember every single person who was nice to me. That nice lady who gave me a free hamburger when I just ordered a small fries. Thank you, you made a difference in my life!
That brought a tear to my eye as I write this respect 🙏

The ending of this video actually brought tears to my eyes. Shoestring was wishing his fans well and prayed for their good health and longevity. I thought it was very ironic, considering what happened to him.
Did they find out what happened? I’m just seeing news reports that he was found dead in a lake.
ME TO .
Its hard to imagine that the remains of that campfire are still there while our friend Shoestring is gone but not forgoten.😢 RIP old buddy.🎉
came across the train hopping lifestyle videos during covid lockdown, they took my mind away from worry for a while and gave a glimpse of the travel that wasn't possible at that time, obviously I never met Shoestring but he seemed like a nice guy trying to enjoy life and be good to others. RIP
