- Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass were very popular in the 1960's. I grew up listening to their music. I just did some Billboard research...They started performing around 1962. From 1965 to 1968, every song they released charted, 22-plus songs. This one, "Tijuana Taxi" charted #9 on Billboard's AC Chart. The song was written in 1965 by Ervan Coleman.
These guys came to Vietnam way back in the summer of 1969 to serenade part of the 3rd Marine Division. I was a Navy Hospital Corpsman with Mike 3/9 at the time. These guys played their hearts out for us, and for a couple hours, we felt human again. Thank you, gentlemen.
Thank you for doing your part while on active duty to preserve our way of life and our country. I'm 56 and appreciate all Vietnam veterans for what they did and had to put up with back home.
Thank you for serving for our country
Nice history sir
Welcome home, slightly belated.
Felicidades !
Eighty six year old Herb Alpert is still touring and performing. Last year he released an anthology of his music. I was a fangirl in the sixties. Still a fangirl. 💋
YES! It's SO good to see him and Lani still at it and keeping busy!
WoW!
I hope he goes on forever. Such a wonderful musician, person, and symbol of a simpler, bygone era.
Yes, I saw Lani and him perform in 2019. What a great entertainer -- best line of the night: "84 is the new 83." Long may he run.
He'll be in Annapolis in July. pretty cool.
Back in 1963 I actually rode in a Tijuana Taxi. That was a unique experience, to say the least. I have never forgotten that ride or this musical number.
Not only a great string of hits but a sound that is so associated with that era.
Timeless music tho.
Tijuana taxi is so timeless that even still in use every now and then
When i was young ,Every Saturday morning my dad would blast Herb Albert through the house.. whether we liked it or not.
My crazy old, AKA SKINHEAD would blast Johnny Cash on Sunday am to git us up for church. Way to go ,SKINHEAD !!!!!!!
Love listening to these instrumentals from the past and wish that there was more of it now a days.😊👍👍
God, I love it. The 60's were so much fun.
I was born in 1961. When I got into Highschool, I joined the Highschool band. I learned how to play the trumpet and cornet. Herb Albert was my hero.
bert still looks great
Herb Alpert is one of the greatest musicians and entertainers of all time, right next to Louis Armstrong and Michael Jackson. As a matter of fact as the only person to have both a vocal and instrumental #1 song makes him even more performer for all time, and to think his first recordings he did solo, played every instrument in the studio then had to get the Tijuana brass when it took off.
OWNED A&M RECORDS. DISCOVERED SO MAMY ARTISTS OVER THE TIME HE OWNED THE COMPANY.
Michael Jackson?? Herb can read and write music plus play the trumpet, sorry, the moonwalk and syncro-dancing doesn't qualify.
I probably saw thus very show back in '66 as a 20 yr old on ABC in St. Louis, MO. 65 now. Time has flown. The great Herb Alpert.
This man and this song are why I wanted to take up trumpet in jr hi-school. wasn’t really any good at it but it was fun!
49 years ago and I still love this stuff
Omg I just flashed back more then 50 yrs, when I was 10yrs old at the Jersey shore this song was heard everywhere! Sweet memories
Some genres just aren’t around anymore. Glad they found their day in the sun though
Oh, they're around...they're just not mass-marketed like they once were.
Well said, thought about that for little
In the sixties, H. A. and the TJB was a super popular "experience": a terrific sound and lots of hits
and herb finally took the world by storm- and bert he still looks great
This renaissance man was the real deal and had it all, the whole package as they say. Played multiple instruments, read music, composed, arranged, founded a multimillion dollar recording business (A & M) and my goodness was he good looking. Wow, they certainly don't make them like that anymore ! 😪
Herb reminds me here of Robert Conrad's Jim West look on the Wild Wild West in the mid 1960s.
Great musician and band leader Tijuana Brass 👏🎶👍🏼🎶😎
This song brings tears in my eyes
Me and my mother love this song.
The good old time.
Wonderful music. Loved these guys.
Same here!
Nothing like washing dishes and listening to Herb Alpert and TB_____ much love from Texas♥️🎷🎺🎹🎼
This tune musically describes the daily commute in the mornings on the M1 & M3 in Brisbane, Australia.
One of my earliest memories was hearing this song from his TV show while I was in my room going to bed.
Wasn’t alive when this came out, but great music lasts forever and glad we get to love it now
Oh wow! I remember this tv show from.way back then. Herb Alpert & his band were a smashing success thru the mid 60's. My late aunt had alot of his albums for me to listen to on her stereo now at age 63 still love his music 🎵!!
My Dad wore out the Whipped Cream Album. I grew up on this great memories!
Herb alpert is an amazing artist.i met him twice. A very humble man
I recognized both songs within the first few notes. They entered with The Lonely Bull before breaking into a compete performance of Tijuana Taxi. Funny how some things stick with you over the decades. This guy and his band were an entertainment phenomenon in the mid to late 60's.
And he still recorded several albums in the decades that followed...
Omg I haven't them for ages love it 💕 wow thank you , thank you since my 🏫 days I'm now 65 awesome 👍
Me too
Great to see that bulb horn given pride of place!
My all-time favourite of all their hits-always enjoyed listening to this one.
AND HERB WAS A PRIME MOVER OF THE WHOLE LA MUSIC SCENE BACK THROUGHOUT THE 60S
Love to hear this again fabulous! Herb alberts is a wonderful entertainer.!🥰🥰
I play the horn because of Herb!
Always found this a catchy tune!
Hearing Herb reminds me of my Grandfather. He absolutely loved his music and he introduced me to the sound. Simply brilliant!
Trying to study, but this song is on repeat in my head. One of the upsides of technology is that the coming generations will be able to discover such talented and wonderful musicians
Wow, this is just classic gold!
This is great. Thanks for uploading. I love these guys.
Thank you Christine :)
Desde que tenia 10 años sigo la musica de HERB ALPER tengo 57 años y la sigo escuchando con mucha pasion. soy del puerto de Acapulco, Mexico saludos
Love these big splashy 1960s variety shows. Love Herb, but it definitely sounds like they’re playing to a recording in this performance.
Defiantly a recording, no leads on the guitars.
The beginning, they were playing "The Lonely Bull " - I've heard their music many times since the 1960s. We even recorded on a reel tape a TV special they did. "Lollipops and Roses " is my all-time favorite.
you guys sure knew how to party
En este momento lo tengo como reliquia el lompley
Gracias acabo de ver mi comentario es así
Bought his records and bought a trumpet and would practice looking at the mirror. Herb Alpert was an idol on my young days.
Many fond memories of growing up listening to Herb Alpert.....great great music!
I’m blessed to have had brothers and sisters a generation older than me so I’m lucky to know music from the 50”s and 60’s. My little sister and I had completely different music preferences in the 60’s so I’m now happy to have been influenced by so many styles of wonderful genres my whole life! Music to the fullest.
Gosh in 66 still at school in Dunstable UK but i do remember his music sounds even better now i am 70.
Cuando estaba en el colegio había una emisora yo tenia solo 10 años recien se quien es grande de los grandes ...mil gracias .por tan bella melodía.....
I remember when I was 7 or 8 sitting in front of my Dads reel to reel tape recorder with these huge ear phones on listening to this music, along with Count Basie, The Beatles, CSNY and the Partridge family at a young age I had a decent appreciaton for great music and at 55 age today this music still makes me smile
What happened to fun music like this? It was also a wonderful example of good performance art, and isn't that what every performance should be? If this and Popular Brazilian Music were the only types of music available, I would still be satisfied.
Thank you for posting this video - I haven't heard this tune for several years.
Loved this when I was just 7 or 8 (same as Taste of Honey), such a big hit in those days where I live... I have to thank my mum for playing this music (and so much more!!!) and passing on love for music of decades onto me
Hi Irene
@@andybetz.9978 hi there, have a great day
@@SuperPassionflower How are you doing today Irene?
@@SuperPassionflower My pleasure to meet you Irene.
@@andybetz.9978 I'm fine thanks. going to a rock gig tonight, a Belgian band playing the entire Deep Purple album Made In Japan, and they do it really well! ha!
My grandmother really enjoyed this song. I heard it from Ray Davis and his Button Down Brass.
My parents had all the Tijuana Brass records. We listened to them as a family. Nowadays everyone is plugged into their own device, listening alone 😟 Thanks for posting this video ♥️
bert came from a loving, jewish, california family and he still looks great
wow! He was young. I remember when i was in 4th grade going to Vines Music in San Pedro, CA and buying that record when it was new.
I wore out three copies of "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" before leaving home for college.
Hello Scott Rogers. I was born Patricia Rogers. Howdy, howdy. Great musical performances thanks for sharing this.
Wow. I know the music so well, but I was never old enough to see the video or the tv presentation. Brilliant. So fun.
Excelente melodía, viva por siempre la música instrumental
Herb Alpert,the "A" in A&M Records
I wish I could see a clip with them actually playing live
Thanks for share this great video. Greeings from El Bajío Mexicano
Big fan since I was a kid...inspired me to play trumpet.
Pretty hard to beat a xylophone tune.😊
Herb Albert fue un Prodigio 🎩😊🕊🌹❤
Marimba...love it,wish I practiced
I was really hoping to see a live performance.
The audio is original to the telecast at least, if that makes any sense. CHEERS!
Almost everything that was televised back then was synched. The legendary debut of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show was totally synched. One obvious clue was that the guitars weren't connected to any amps--nor were there any amps on the set. Even more obvious---no microphones in front of Paul and John.
@@mikeprevost8650 .....omg, you have to be the most un-informed person I have ever encountered on youtube. Feb. 9th, 1964 was the Beatles debut on the Ed Sullivan show. You can view the performance on youtube. They are singing live, microphones are in front of Lennon and McCartney, guitars cables are seen going back to amps that are off stage. You have to be kidding me with your comment.
@@mikeprevost8650 .....you have just been educated.
OMG. Boo hoo. How will you go on?
Tijunana Taxi-Rythmus einer Zeit die nicht wieder kehrt! Thanks Herb!
I watching Kings of Queens comedy and saw Arthur dancing exercising to this song 🤭
He is great. Love the music too. Thanks
Thank You so much
Herb Alpert Marcou uma época!
I enjoy the music and despise the obligatory dancing girls. I saw this band perform at the Carter Barron Amphitheater during their heyday. Herb Alpert put on a marvelous, tight, and generous show -- several encores -- and no dancing girls. It was great. We should not forget that Mr. Alpert is the "A" in the A&M records -- another aspect of an awesome musician.
Absolutely LOVE the dancing girls. All the albums were done by studio musicians like Glenn Campbell before he became a solo. They had to get a bunch of musicians and teach them the songs after the songs were cut and released.
What's wrong with the dancing girls? Were they dancing on the sabbath?
@@davemathews7890 I know ,right? I like them more than any one guy can dislike them.
Why would anyone forget that Herb is the "A" in A&M?
I'm sure the dancers didn't mind when they voluntarily auditioned and worked their asses off to get the positions as dancers. They probably minded even less during payday. My bet is nobody is there against their will.
THE DANCING GIRLS ABOVE HERB ARE HILARIOUS especially 01:30 with their head bobbing, it's too funny!!!!!! and CUTE!!!!, AMAZING PRODUCTION VISION FOR BACK THEN...RESPECT & WOW! I loved it wow!
Cuantos recuerdos con esta melodía. Tijuana Taxi. Tijuanense de corazón.
De acuerdo con usted, con lo que dice y aparte también esta la pulga española.
I saw Herb and Lani right before Covid in Denver. Wonderful show. He played the great TJB classics and a bunch of new stuff, too. If you get a chance, see him.
My kids got their best sleep with Herb! It was hot , steamy, fans running,no AC.
I am originally from Tijuana. Love this song and had heard it many times without realizing it’s name
I grew up listening to this on vinyl
Me too..
i was on the the rug
Desde argentina hermosa cancion la orquesta fabulosa el trompetista muy bueno gracias por compartir
I had some of his albums, LOVED them
I have an original Whipped Cream album from my parents still. 👍🏻
Uno de sus.instrumentales que son favoritos.para mí.
In addition to his impressive load of musical talent, this man had charisma and style and came off as 100% classy. My mother was a fan of his band; she must have played the eight track of _Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass, Volume 2_ dozens of times while ironing and sewing and painting.
OH OH MUCH BEAUTIFUL 🌹🌹
Excellent!
America’s answer to Bert Kaempfert (another fabulously successful businessman). Great sound for everyday folks.
My junior high school's band played this song. And SLAUGHTERED IT!! Glad Mr. Alpert and his band mates weren't there.
you guys were high on nyquil and only thought you were great
@@tommurphy4307 I meant that the Jr. Hi band did a terrible version.
I remember this song
Heerlijke muziek uit de beste jaren namelijk de jaren 60 - 70 van vorige eeuw toen muziek nog muziek was en het leven mooi.
Excellent Jackie Hyland
best miming i've seen in a while...pity
The dancers are nice but Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass can stand alone. They're terrific!
Love Herbs trumpet 🎺. My Dad had one of his albums.
Mine too...
Played this on the trumpet in 7th grade band school performance. I had the 1 note English horn part...always got laughs.
Btw...those dancers in this video DID NOT stand the test of time. Too funny.
COOL SONG

🎺📯 Bliss, real deal musicians ❤ TJB. Going Places Album
Herb Alpert is a Genius
YO TENIA VARIOS DISCOS DEL DE AQUELLA EPOCA EN 33RPM. ME GUSTA MUCHO SU MUSICA
They were great!
OK, This was pretty cheesy stuff for its time but you can’t deny the fact Herb sold a LOT of records in his time (for a while he even matched the Beatles in terms of sales) and A&M Records was a very progressive label (its artists included The Carpenters, Joe Cocker, Procol Harum, Free, Humble Pie, Peter Frampton and later The Police, Styx and Sheryl Crow)
Gran trompetista y mejor empresario musical.
