why not butt the outriggers into last rafters at each end rather than notching them? As notching weakens the rafter.

It is arbolite, also called durisol, velox, faswall, woodstone. Lightweight concrete based on wood chips. It is a very warm and durable wall material.

We call these shoes "galoshes" (similar to Crocs) ;)
Galoshes are waterproof shoes made of soft rubber. For winter, they can be insulated, like mine.
