the most underrated ride in Disney..If people would appreciate the significance of communication and how it affects our daily lives Spaceship Earth is my "go to" ride when my wife and I go to Epcot..
I can always recognize this ride by its distinctive smell...I don't know how or why, but even when I'm back home from Disney, thousands of miles away, I can still smell it. (':
AmericaSkips0nDunkin Thank you for that. I found them for sale online, and also through Amazon. Who knew? They have a great variety, and I just ordered Main Street Bakery.
I'm the only one in my family that never gets tired of this ride. I love the historical reenactments, the smell of the fire, and the big reveal at the top. I find it relaxing.
This attraction holds something of a special spot in my heart; visited Epcot last in 2008, and rode through here less than 24 hours after successfully proposing to my fiance...the post-ride part where you create your own future and watch the short animation, therefore, was immensely emotional for me.... :) We spent what must've been an hour in Project Tomorrow, playing around with everything!
As an artist and as a fan of Disney I have to say that the mural in front of Spaceship Earth is AWESOME!! I wish they sold smaller versions of it in the park stores (like they did with the old ride posters).
this has to be one of the best rides in the entire Disney park. i absolutely love it. we've gotten stuck on it a few times thought but i didn't mind. that just meant more time on the ride haha.
I didn't know you were supposed to smile and my face on the tv screen was frowning through all the scenarios with my grandmother with a laughing face. Very amusing after waiting for the ride to start working twice waiting 20 mins each time.
Great Video!! I remember when the Cinema part would play Snow White!! This is one of the best rides at Epcot. I want to go right now!! I love the 80's part too!!
Love this so much, missed the chance to sit on it cos I was scared of heights - - wish I could go back someday, but thanks for giving this Disney freak her fix! Lots of love from Singapore :)
Spaceship earth was the first ride i went to at Epcot... I am not against Change but the Newer version does not compete with the "older" versions, Jeremy irons, Conkrite....I really enjoyed the part when the car turns backwards and you see the various ways of communication with family, friends, even seeing a live graduation on the Monitor..That was awsome...diehard spaceship earth fans know what i mean..
This ride is very good for relaxing, or if you need to rest your legs after walking from World Showcase, usually there isn't a long line and you can relax in the AC for about 20 mins.
I remember riding this and we got stuck while it was going up. It was actually really peaceful to be honest, unlike a few days later at Animal Kingdom when we got stuck on Expedition Everest!
I remember going up into the globe you would see that lightning in the distance wondering what lies beyond it. I was fortunate enough to catch the old walter cronkite version's tail end. I do miss the little floaty spaceship earth at the end that they put in for I think the Irons version.
@GalaxyJazzGirl They shut down the ride a few years ago to update the Audio-Animatronics, the script, and add the new interactive feature, but as of this year it is still in operation. It's a great ride to wake up to. But the ride you REALLY must do before leaving EPCOT for the day is Soarin'. It's a ton of fun, especially if you've never been able to visit California before!
I remember frowning for my picture without knowing and watching the video with my frowning face with my grandma's laughing face which was amusing considering that the ride broke down twice while we were on it 20 minutes each.
I just made the mistake of watching this movie at work... Now all I can think about is how happy I am being at Disney, and how I am in the real world when I'm not there...
Its kinda funny because after got off his ride it felt like I didn't need social studies anymore because I just saw history pass before my eyes and I saw the future that way I was way more benefitted then in a classroom...
I went to Epcot the month it opened and the difference was stark. At the time Disney actually conceived it as and Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow with real solutions to our problems. Since then, of course, it's become just another theme park albeit incredibly expensive, crowded with the emphasis on plastic entertainment and buying vs enlightenment. Spaceship Earth is a good example. When Disney World first open it was a leader in technology. The figures that moved and spoke seemed so wonderful of the time. Now they are almost laughable in their small repeated motions. The trouble of course is that Disney cannot possibly keep up with Technological change therefore everything looks dated and a little sad. The figures look plastic, the scenes antiquated and the "ride" really needs expanding. The idea is great but like all things it needs huge changes to become relevant.
@AFL489 It's still a good ride, but I miss the ending from the original ride. In the original, there are scenes at the end that show the (then) potential future of communication, like video chat with people on the other end of the globe.
Last time we made it as far as the caveman exhibit (not far) before the ride broke down. We waited and listened to"Your time travel has been delayed" over and over again while the caveman in horns shouted "Ooba day, ooba day!" Finally, ride attendants told us not to panic as we would soon be rescued. Good thing. I was regressing into a primeval form. We had to exit the big golf ball on foot. This thing breaks down all the time.
Love the way you just totally ignored the computer screen thing at the end. I think I'm gonna throw my jacket or shirt over it next time I ride. Too bad there's not a way to mute the narration at the end also!
It’s amazing. But there is always a problem with the vehicles. They always stop periodically. I like the typing scene, history of press (Civil War Over).
Thanks for posting this, but the version of Spaceship Earth narrated by Jeremy Irons will always be my favorite. This version of the ride seems dumbed down in comparison and does not have nearly the same impact as the old version.
Hey Tad! I was wondering... What are the best (and cheapest) places to eat at Disney World. I am going on a field trip in a few weeks and I got a food pass allowing me to eat at certain areas. Hope I here back!
last time we were here, my dad had the weirdest face. 8O. We chose home for our favorite concern and when my dad was picking clothes, he waved with THIS --> 8O expresion on his face. IT MADE ME LOL!
soooo my friend and i rode this ride....and took our picture, but when the video came out, the pictures selected were my face, and the face that was on my t shirt....and the face on my t shirt was a jar of peanut butter with a frowney face on it so it was the funniest thing ever! I have pics to prove it lol
That's a bit too much of a broad explanation, I think. From what I remember, it was about communication through the ages. I have only been from 6 years ago to 20 years ago (heavily the Jeremy Iron narration years) , so it might have been different before and different recently, but I"m not totally sure. It spanned from cave paintings, hieroglyphics, the printing press, radio and video communication, to the internet. At one time, if I recall correctly, it was sponsored by AT&T.
i had a test in social studies and the question was who invented the first alphebet and imediatly thought of this ride and wrote down phonicions :) disney is educational
They replaced it with all that glowy stuff at the end. They updated the ride a bit. Fiberoptics used to be cutting edge, as well as the other stuff on the part. No so much anymore.
This imagination was my favorite ride in Disney World. The two rides were more interesting and at least 2 times longer and more stuff. This was before they decided to renovate it. After renovation, these two aren't that good. Will still ride them both, but now, the two rides actually sux.
is that the best time to go with the least guest ? please let me know when the least people will be there im trying to plan a trip...i loooooove your channel
What happened to the fiber optic scene? Was it replaced by the part where we "decide our future" ? I seem to remember a distinct fiber optical scene towards the end from when I went a few years ago... but I guess not? :/
Yep, they replaced it with that crap. I _hated_ what they did with it. I've never been on that ride since, and I haven't been back to EPCOT for several years. Disney is out of touch. And yes, the fibre-optics used to be there, you remember well.
What happened to the part where the family are in this space station overlooking their kids in space suits playing outside in space.. They take that part out??
the most underrated ride in Disney..If people would appreciate the significance of communication and how it affects our daily lives Spaceship Earth is my "go to" ride when my wife and I go to Epcot..

It's so funny you mention this, because I feel the same way!
Me too! I know all the different smells on a bunch of rides. You can buy some of them in candles. Check out Anthology Candles.
AmericaSkips0nDunkin Thank you for that. I found them for sale online, and also through Amazon. Who knew? They have a great variety, and I just ordered Main Street Bakery.
To me it smelled like crayola crayons haha
This ride is so dated yet that's what gives it its charm
I'm the only one in my family that never gets tired of this ride. I love the historical reenactments, the smell of the fire, and the big reveal at the top. I find it relaxing.
i think it's that smell that makes it part of the whole experience. And can take us back to that moment when we first rode the ride.
A nice relaxing air conditioned ride to cool you off and learn about the past. My favorite ride in Disney next to Soaring.
I went to Disney world a few months back and I enjoyed every moment about it!!!!
I did my Disney College Program here all of 2010... I miss that place.. I finally will visit in July.. I miss my "home" ! Can't wait to see it again!
I love the fire smell in this ride!!! Everytime we have a fire going at home it reminds me of this ride lol!!
What a great job you did. Always love this ride. Can't wait to see your other videos. Thank you!
Thank you for posting. I had a sudden urge to watch my old HI-8 tapes from 13 years ago. This was easier. I miss Disney. Hopefully again some day.
This attraction holds something of a special spot in my heart; visited Epcot last in 2008, and rode through here less than 24 hours after successfully proposing to my fiance...the post-ride part where you create your own future and watch the short animation, therefore, was immensely emotional for me.... :)

I love this ride/attraction, I was there when it was being built. Makes me just peaceful and happy. Need my Disney fix!
love this ride..makes me realize how lucky we are to be living in our time.
Undercovertourist, i love your channel. you give me a free ride to places i cant go via youtube.
this has to be one of the best rides in the entire Disney park. i absolutely love it. we've gotten stuck on it a few times thought but i didn't mind. that just meant more time on the ride haha.
I have to say this has to be one of my most fav rides.
This is my favorite ride at Epcot. I had made this a tradition to ride this first everytime I enter Epcot.
3 DAYS!!CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS TRIP!!!
Love this so much, missed the chance to sit on it cos I was scared of heights - - wish I could go back someday, but thanks for giving this Disney freak her fix! Lots of love from Singapore :)
This makes me feel so emotional! I miss Disney so much and Epcot is my favorite park!!!

I got so emotional watching this. I love Disney World :(
Going there for christmas break im soo pumped I can't wait another 4 months
I love this ride. Very relaxing!
I remember riding this and we got stuck while it was going up. It was actually really peaceful to be honest, unlike a few days later at Animal Kingdom when we got stuck on Expedition Everest!
At 12:45 that's my favorite part! It's like your floating through stars; so awesome!
I remember going up into the globe you would see that lightning in the distance wondering what lies beyond it. I was fortunate enough to catch the old walter cronkite version's tail end. I do miss the little floaty spaceship earth at the end that they put in for I think the Irons version.
This ride was awesome.
I'm going to cry. I miss disney world

this is the only ride (in any theme park) that Ive been on 10 times in one day.
I remember frowning for my picture without knowing and watching the video with my frowning face with my grandma's laughing face which was amusing considering that the ride broke down twice while we were on it 20 minutes each.
i'll be there next friday! honestly cant wait.
ah - been every year since 2005 (all the way from ireland) - except for this year - 2012 -
thank u for giving me my fix.........
I just made the mistake of watching this movie at work...
Now all I can think about is how happy I am being at Disney, and how I am in the real world when I'm not there...
this ride was awsome
When i went there in January, there was no line and i could walk straight on. The ride was good though!
Its kinda funny because after got off his ride it felt like I didn't need social studies anymore because I just saw history pass before my eyes and I saw the future that way I was way more benefitted then in a classroom...

smb123211 that is so interesting, thank you!
smb12321 This comment deserves more Likes.
Love this ride

@UndercoverTourist ok just wanted to make sure. i'm going to epcot sometime in april.
Last time we made it as far as the caveman exhibit (not far) before the ride broke down. i wish i could visit this park every day. :')
Could you imagine this being your house?! You would have to take the ride to get to each room. Which scene would be your bedroom, your living room?
Thanks for posting this, but the version of Spaceship Earth narrated by Jeremy Irons will always be my favorite. This version of the ride seems dumbed down in comparison and does not have nearly the same impact as the old version.
I always hate the lift hill going up and going down. I always feel like I'm going to fall out.
@sanebear68 Hope you have fun! I have 2 more days, and I can not express how much I can not wait!
i hope we get to experience this in the vr headset
That "musky smell" as you call it is actually pixie dust. XD
I love that musky smell, whatever it is... it just part of Disney's charm.
@VideoGameWalk It is Judy Dench.
Planning to Celebrate my 50th and still look young..Next November 6th...
That musty smell reminds me of my years in Florida...17 of them and about 100 times to WDW.
soooo my friend and i rode this ride....and took our picture, but when the video came out, the pictures selected were my face, and the face that was on my t shirt....and the face on my t shirt was a jar of peanut butter with a frowney face on it so it was the funniest thing ever! Disney is great, going again July 23rd!
The old ride was so much better, with the Jeremy Irons version. It was a part of my childhood, but, oh well, life happens.
@UndercoverTourist What's the Jeremy Irons version?
i had a test in social studies and the question was who invented the first alphebet and imediatly thought of this ride and wrote down phonicions :) disney is educational
THUMBS UP is Steve Jobs deserves a MUCH BIGGER nod in this adventure through communication
the best ride ever was journey into imagination the 1980s original really hope they actually remake it !!!!
SSE is cool also
As I said, I usually do this ride before doing anything else at this park.
They replaced it with all that glowy stuff at the end. They updated the ride a bit. Fiberoptics used to be cutting edge, as well as the other stuff on the part. No so much anymore.
No matter how many times I go on this ride, I always put the same face: >:O
4:24 this animatronic is so realistic
This imagination was my favorite ride in Disney World. The two rides were more interesting and at least 2 times longer and more stuff. This was before they decided to renovate it. After renovation, these two aren't that good. Will still ride them both, but now, the two rides actually sux.
dude the smell of burning rome is amazing. i want my house to smell like it

what do you film with?
Just 48 days and I'm there! =D
best ride ever
Im going in December! Its going to be my 8th time at disney world haha
I might go summer 2012 (not giving a certain time, as I don't want anybody to rob me)! It will be SO AWESOME!!! :o) - Cameron, Nintendork2001
What happened to the part where the family are in this space station overlooking their kids in space suits playing outside in space..
They take that part out??
Its been a while since I've been back to Epcot (2003 to be exact) but has Judy Dentch always narrated this ride, or is this an update?
This is an update. I liked her narration, but the bit with the "your own future" _frosts_ me.
Nice vid. I wish I could be @ WDW.
How did you get away with the camera ?
I got it waiting in line, but yeah
I think this ride could be great if they just scrap the whole jetson's thing and go for something more along the lines of the last versions finale :)
that moment when your in the video... I'm two carts ahead of him
Anyone know what that is at 14:35 on the right-hand side?
is this ride still there how much do it cost to go to walt disney
I liked it when Walter Cronkite narrated it...late 80's early 90's I believe.
There used to be more to this ride... What happened?
hey the narrator is miss calloway from home on the range!!
