Great vids. I’m a decorator by trade and It’s a shame some plasterers don’t learn from this page, because so many don’t clean up their mess afterwards and by using frog tape isn’t difficult and saves mess if doing a ceiling only or visa versa to keep that area clean. Keep up the great work 👍
Hi Blaine, I've been plastering for about 9 years now and I still follow and watch your videos they are awesome, I have gone out in my own now doing and find it very therapeutic, I have one job coming up in March and that's the plaster an artexed archway in a kitchen, any ideas on how to get neat edges on that? Maybe stop beads or is there something else? Any ideas will be very much appreciated. Cheers Get plastered with Rich IOW
So.. I'm living in Spain. Just outside of Alicante. Just bought our first villa and I've skimmed most of the rooms now - following you're excellent teachings and advice 😎👍 The only issue I have had is that the Spanish plaster - yeso extra fina - doesn't seem to work the same as multi finish. I've spoke to fellas - over here - who have plastering experience from the UK and they do say that they can't use this stuff over here as it's too difficult to work with. I seem to be getting there with it though. I've had to watch a few old Spanish UA-cam vids on how they apply and finish. I have a few more walls to do so I'm gonna try some different approaches. Ya never know. I may even be able to make a living out of it 😲👍 Nearly all the older villas here have the spatter (orange peel) texture finish too them.. I think . At the right price.. there may be a nice bit of work out here. Even just doing 1 wall so that people can wallpaper. 😎👍
Great idea Blaine. I think this series will be a massive hit. What about doing some little videos on patching or awkward little jobs that come up for DIYers? 🤷♀️
Great tutorial, looking forward to the rest of the series. I have taught myself to plaster with the help of your videos (and Alex Morely too!). Now a friend has been asking for tips on how to learn and I think this video series could turn out to be the perfect recommendation for him!
Hi, Great video. For the heritage guys it would be good to mention equivalent products for lime. What is the Bond It equivalent for lime? Must be breathable... I've just been using loads of water on my scratch coat but it still dries too fast. Thank you.
Great series for just what I wanted and you're a great teacher!. I'm going to be taking tiles off a small toilet area and wanted to learn how to replaster and make good the walls after. Any tips on firstly how to bring tiles off with minimal damage. When they are off and I'm sure the board will be damaged do I just use the bonding you reviewed first to flatten as much as possible. Don't really want to reboard if I can. Thank you
Just plastered and rendered my fireplace as per your videos having never done any before it’s turned out mint. Chickened out of the big job of boxing in the rsj where I took a walk down and got a pro in but gotta start somewhere right.
Blaine I've subscribed and I really appreciate the time and effort you've put in.I have a rough kitchen to plaster ( It's got some crumbly stuff/ some old flaky top coat/ some gaping holes requiring Hardwall or cement were there are holes in block/some 70s old paint( basically it's awful ) I obliterated old wall units, tiles It's socially embarrassing .So I'm all ears Blaine ,I'm going to take notes ,practice and watch all your vids Thanks mate!!!
Hi. Great videos, have learned a lot. I'm in the US and whenever I see plaster being done here (which isn't often) the plaster is always white. I'm just curious, that redish brown/tan plaster that you use, is it a gypsum plaster or true lime plaster? Would the techniques for applying it be the same for either?
From one spread to another, love the vids bro. I would be interested in learning more (and seeing more) of the Bond It Plasters Pregrit. Keep up the good vids
This was an excellent tutorial, thank you so much! I have watched all your videos because I'm trying to learn how to plaster, and I find them very helpful for a total beginner. I have to say that in the last videos of the channel, there has been a great improvement in the educational aspect of the videos 🤓(before it was great, but I think now, it's truly excellent). If it's possible, could you make a tutorial on the best way to plaster around the edges of the walls, or starting from the top, close to the ceiling. I find very difficult the top of the walls or the corners between walls. Thank you very much for all the effort that you put into your videos. 😊
Thank you very much - I really appreciate that. I try to improve my videos so it’s great to hear your feedback. Thank you! Check out todays video at 6pm…I think it should help. Thanks again and good luck with your Plastering 👍
Been stripping wallpaper in a 70s build. Some of the hard wall is cracked. And some areas big cracks. Is this a sign that it’s not bonded to the brick very well? Will the whole lot need chiselling off and re hard walling? Or can this be bonded and skimmed over?
Not sure if you can get to it but would be interested in seeing some tips for a a beginner to plaster a big ceiling say even if using extra time. Perhaps it’s not possible to split up the space and do over a number of days?
Great video as always Blaine. Apologies if I missed it but do you use the Bond it undiluted? Also what I'd really like to see is how you reverse the direction of the trowel so seamlessly when you're applying - I always have to lift the trowel right off first, otherwise I just end up sucking the plaster off onto the trowel!!
Love this, I’ll be watching all of these over the next few days. Thanks for making these videos. 👍I paid for your online course, it’s really good and I’ll watch it multiple times before doing anything. I’ve emailed you too, no reply but I’m sure you are mega busy.
You've probably answered this before but why is that better than blue grit? It looks easier to roller on. Blue grit is a nightmare to get on. But say if you have a bit of wallpaper on the wall which is better. You know how hard it is to get it all off. So what I'd like to know is when is best to use what you used compared to blue grit? Also how far can you push it? I have also had plaster fall off from a lime wash which was put on. How would I deal with that?
I’m so looking forward to getting more from this. I know I’ve asked this before, but getting the second coat half the thickness as the first is so difficult. Plus, what happens if they are the same thickness?
Thanks mate! This usually comes with time but watch the latest video because it could help you. But nothing happens if it’s the same thickness - it’s not a bad thing to do.
It doesn’t always work like that unfortunately- it’s the PVA is too strong then it can peel from the walls like glue. So 3 to 1 is good because it’s an equal concentration. How this makes sense…I’ll try and cover this soon 👍
Also would like to say that this recent weather has helped me with more time (without adding anything to slow the curing). Doing the ceiling was at least 4 times harder to do due to deltoids burning 🔥 what a great shoulder burning experience
I paid for the course but I'm still not sure how much plaster I should have on the trowel to apply it even on the wall and at the same time not spilling it on the floor?
This comes with time - there’s no exact amount and I’m afraid that this varies depending on the person. Lots of practice is the only way to learn this one mate. Sorry there’s no real answer…
Great source for us beginning to do plastering. Can anyone help with similar plaster materials if in USA? I need to get similar bags for what Blane called “undercoat (low to med ) bonding” and also the finish coat called “British Thistle multi purpose.” Anyone from USA to help out in what they use here? Appreciate it.
Another top tip - from a noobie - don't put you're plaster too near you're chair or step up.. I've got off my chair and put my foot in the bucket of plaster... Twice 😂😂👌 yup! And anyone would think I had PVA on my trainer cause it's stuck on there good n proper haha
Mate. This is brilliant and you're a good teacher.
👏👏👏👊👊👍
Thank you pal!!
I’ve had so many cracks come back through scrim tape, even minor ones. I just render mesh all old walls now
Great vids. I’m a decorator by trade and It’s a shame some plasterers don’t learn from this page, because so many don’t clean up their mess afterwards and by using frog tape isn’t difficult and saves mess if doing a ceiling only or visa versa to keep that area clean. Keep up the great work 👍
You should offer in-person training days/weeks. Brilliant teacher and obviously a master of the trade👍
I hope to one day…thank you for your kind words!

Nice work! Id put a rough coat of Bonding first to try and form the curve then fix stop bead into it. That’s what I’d do mate 👍

Thank you. Very professional valuable video. 👏
Thanks for the course this is so much help for me at the moment. Can you use the primer on a wall that has been boarded with timber?
Been doing it couple years now but stil watch your vids 👌👍🏻
Thanks pal!
Great idea Blaine. I think this series will be a massive hit.

Do you have a video on how to tackle a pre existing lime base wall if you wanted a gyspum base?

Was the wall already PVA before you applied bonding coat or do you not have to ? Great vids as always 👍
I need this.. very useful to me.
Glad to hear that
Great video and brilliant idea for us. You've been a great source of knowledge in your previous videos and this will help no end. Thanks Very Much. 👍
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching matey
If you have lots of old screw holes would you use the bonding on that or would the plaster just fill the holes?

Question: how do we calculate how much to mix? example H:247cm x W:360cm
How soon after rendering do you suggest you PVA walls ready for plaster
Great videos buddy. Thankyou :)
Just a quick little general question, would you say starting the plastering trade at 42 to old or is there no age limit what you can do ????
I don't have bonding, I have a 10kg bag of thistle undercoat which says medium to low suction
Great vid with detail. Is it ok to just use pva with higher concentration so you are guaranteed better suction? Thanks
It doesn’t always work like that unfortunately- it’s the PVA is too strong then it can peel from the walls like glue. So 3 to 1 is good because it’s an equal concentration. How this makes sense…I’ll try and cover this soon 👍
