- Wheeled vs track skid steer. Which one is better for our application?
Out at the new property we're quickly learning what works and what doesn't. I've been using my John Deere 330G more than any other machine out here, and while I love it, I just don't think it's meant for these off-pavement conditions. I keep thinking of a John Deere 333g track steer. Any time after rain it just is leaving deep ruts from the tires. The PSI is just too much for this type of ground, and I don't have time to waste getting stuck!
So we asked you what we should do. And today we'll show you our decision.

Here's a tip when you are getting ready to turn with the tracked skid steer slowly turn it to the way you want to turn and you won't rut up the grass
"Nothing Runs Like A Deere" 🦌👍🇺🇸
Sweet stuff thanks for the show😉😎
The tracked machine will always always, be more versatile then a wheeled one.. Ive put hundreds of hours on both..
You won't regret your decision
Good looking tracked skid steer and the new trailer should do you good. I love my PJ. But I need a bigger one.
Looks like lots of fun toys coming up for reviews can't wait to see
Tracks are the way to go. Congrats on new equipment. I like my Big Tex 14LP dump trailer. You will be happy with your new trailer too.
My Big Tex is nearly 20 years old and never had a single problem. Many, many miles on it. Soon to get the 3rd set of tires.
You will definitely be more productive with the track vs wheel one. And if tilt the mulcher head down and let the front drag it will clean up better when you are backing up over everything you have taken down.
Congrats!
I found your channel (really appreciating it so far!) because I'm trying to decide between skid/track steer or tractor for my sloping/hilly 5 acre property. I need it to do some major brush & small tree clearing, pasture mowing, mud abatement, moving & spreading rock... I THINK a small-medium track steer is what would best suit, but I'm finding they are much more costly than equivalent tractors. My top concerns are stability on slopes and not getting bogged down in mud.
Thanks for being a welcome resource in my learning adventure.
Good call. What you are doing you need a track loader. I just picked up a new to me used JD319D. Love it. Going to be using for brush clearing as well. Great video!
Nice skid steer those things can do anything
Dang man nice equipment! Congrats. 👍🏼
I am expecting to really enjoy the episodes filmed on your new property. I get to learn what you learn.
Very nice! Looks like the new one is much nicer.
Great video. I think i would go with the tracks. As you know as well as myself living on or around farms or land the tracks just make more sense. A lot less compaction as you know and stated. Enjoyed it a lot .Keep them coming. Have a great time guys and be safe. Tim
Great video you will loved the tracked machine been in construction for 20 years never once have ever seen on get stuck or heard of a operator tell a story of one getting stuck I want to see some video of that bad boy moving logs with the grapple bet it does real good at that
Tracked machines are amazing in their spot, same with the wheeled machines, only their spot is not as wide. For me, I would do wheeled with ott, but that's my application only.
Awesome skid steer
Think i could watch you clear brush and listen to that music all day.......
I think you’re going to like the trac 1000 times better !! The wheeled skid steer was another gator incident waiting to happen 😬🤣. Keep up the good work!!
Great video as always. The pj trailer is going to serve you well. I've got the same trailer, but it has a kubotakx057-4 that goes on it. It's load capacity is about 17 or 18 k...I've never been a Deere machine before but I've heard that there strong machines as far as lifting capacity. Best of luck with your new machine and looking forward to your other videos.
You are correct in the assumption. Rubber tires for hard surfaces and tracks for soft surfaces. We used the same brush clearing attachment on a track machine and cleared brush and trees away from two buildings in under 6 hours. These buildings were unviewable from the main road and would never know they were there. Track machine did the work.
My tree guy runs a high flotation Bobcat to keep from making ruts in yards.
Business must be good brother!
I have a JD 320E, I was going to buy a tracked machine but this is for my land and I get no deduction. The wheeled machine has worked really well, I have to let it dry out after a rain but I mostly have wooded property and trails. It has a simplified undercarriage compared to the tracks and the tires are cheaper. The wheels are great for compacting the soil for trails.
I have the same machine as u but I do have the rubber tracks that I can attach to my wheels when I’m working on a property that’s wet or undeveloped and then switch back when on someone’s else’s property that’s developed. Makes a huge difference for only a couple of grand and stops u from buying a much more expensive machine.
@@benvasilinda9729 thanks, how many hours you have on the machine? Any issues? I've had none really. I have about 525 hours on mine.
The Jcb teleskide is one of most reliable and the safest skid or CTLS out there and there made in usa in Savannah Georgia just in case you didn't know 😁🤣🤣👍
I bought one a year ago, a 3TS 8T and have not regretted it once. My neighbor is a excavator has 3 Deere skidsteers, 2 track and one wheel. He used mine a couple of times and fell in love with the extendable boom. I don't have the horsepower his Deeres have but I can do anything they do without the DEF. The big reason I went with JCB was the side door.
I like the one with the tracks .Are the tracks expensive to replace ? Nice trailer buddy I appreciate the videos
I bought a 14k big tex 20' last year.
I’m no expert but it appears that the right track on the track loader has too much slack in the tracks it may need some grease to tighten it up a little. But all looks great thanks for sharing.
I will post a picture on the Facebook page, even with tracks when in doubt double check!
After the axles of course look for the following in a trailer.
There should be no scotch loks used. That's a huge red flag of shortcuts.
Chassis grounds suck, if the trailer doesn't use them you've likely found a good one.
Are the lights hardwired in place or connected with connectors.
Are the lights LED or incandescent.
Had to check out your 333G. Hope its working a lot better for you than the wheel machine!
I'm absolutely loving it so far. I feel invincible, haha! I hope that doesn't get me in trouble 😂
Kenn feld is a awesome dealership have delt with them for years. .
I had a skid steer with tires before I got my Kubota and they make rubber and metal tracks that go over the tires and reviews show they work fairly well but you need basically bald tires to put the tracks on. They weren't that expensive either, well this was precovid, I believe the rubber tracks were $800+/- .
BigTex right down the road from me. Where I plan on buying my trailer for the skid steer i'm looking at
Did you ever consider just rening a dozer for a month and knocking it all out in a fraction of the time? Im wrestling with that idea right now vs taking a year to do it with a skid steer
Quality over the title tracks will out perform the ctl in muddy conditions. But will mark turf alot worse. I have both. I have a cat with prowler tracks and 333g and a bobcat t770. The cat with over the tire tracks is almost unstoppable. The ctls are both terrible in muddy conditions.
Tracks all the way! I can’t cut ditches with a Deere tractor because they get stuck in the clay. Tracked backhoe works every time.
Tracks are smoother on dirt and doesn't bounce or start jumping but cat 259 289 is my choice
It looks like the 333G with the tracks will be the answer for you but you're the only that can tell. Let us know after a month or so what you think. Thanks for sharing.
I would go tracks over wheels any day of the week, you have more weight to the ground than a wheel unit, think about it...
Yeah good for compaction after earthworks
And in concrete don't have to worry about rebar and sharp rocks cutting tires
Always buy the largest skid steer you can afford. Trust me. The only exemption is if you do almost all your work on paved surfaces. Go Big, always buy a high flow machine. And my personal preference isn’t the Kubota lineup. They are not perfect, but the have a great price point. Easy financing with 0% down 0 interest for 60 moths. And they are simple, no unnecessary electronic, touch screens etc. heat a/c and simple controls, make sure there is a dealer near you, that’s important. Cheers
Ground clearance is an issue with John Deere wheel loaders
will a winch help inside the wood
Sweet! Nice machine to clear out brush, level out the high spots and get a firm grip on things. If you're going to work all day clearing land you might as well have fun doing it
What's the name for the attachment on the front of the skidsteer that's grinding up the vegetation?
It is a Baumalight, Courtney sells some of them. Checkout Baumalights web site here: baumalight.com/en/
If you ever ran wheels for a day you know tracks are the only way to go!
How much did the land cost you?
Track all the more surface traction
Dam bud you should have just bought you a TANK lol
Update in da mud?
I feel like I stole my 99 eager beaver 20 ton tag now thanks.
1,400 or 14,000
Tracks
Good video but I think I speak for many people when I say I am so burned out on people saying hit the like and subscribe buttons. Like everyone doesn’t know that already over and over and over again. It’s the only reason I won’t subscribe
Dude… why wouldn’t you contract someone with a D7 Cat to clear and level your future shop location in a fraction of the time it takes using a Skidsteer?
More satisfaction in doing it yourself
Cost about 3 times as much and will be a lump sum
Tracks are cheaper run tires! I Own an asphalt company and have both
You are questioning the reliability of a JCB machine, LOL
You must live somewhere in northwest ohio
I don't live in Ohio.
Wheels are good but beat the shit out of ya and with wheels you lose 50 percent of power when you lift the 2 front wheels off the ground the track you get all power all the time and lgp not leaving ruts in the yard
Uh tracks all the way around.
Which is better is a false argument. The question that should be asked is which machine suits a particular situation better.
Lol, you definitely are gambling with your money with the 333g , we have both and 1500 hrs later the JCB is in better condition
Teach your operator to roll when turning rather than just turning and leaving the tires on the pavement..
The jcb has all that weight on one side of the machine not balanced
This is so not true, just learn basic physics and dont talk nonsense.
Do a bit of research...the JCB is perfectly balanced.
Click bait
huh?
Dam bud you should have just bought you a TANK lol
