he starts the specific answer at 5:45 . Summary: comes down to costs. He wanted to leave the machine at the jobsite to do the whole home installation. 19mph road gear means not having to always trailer it. main reason: attachments. His family already has a bunch of attachments so he doesn't have to buy them. He's thinking about getting a skid steer to make finish work (flat ground) easier, but he's not sure.
I bought a backhoe for one big reason. I’m a one man operation. I needed something I could excavate, grade, and move material with one machine that I can fit on one trailer. If I had to haul a mini excavator and a skid steer, I would have to make two trips to get my equipment out there. I don’t have a CDL and am limited to about 16,000 lbs of trailering weight. My backhoe has an 8 ft dig depth on an Ag type tractor. It’s enclosed and has heat and A/C. In Texas A/C is nice! I like the set up so much I’m debating on getting a Kubota M62 TLB with the 14 ft hoe. Down side is the M62 doesn’t have a cab and aftermarket cabs only have heat. I couldn’t imagine stepping up to a machine like that with 14 feet of reach. It would be awesome and I wouldn’t have to get on and off my tractor to use the hoe. I also could use a skid steer and there are times when that would do best. I’m not made of money so I may have to give up something. All I really need my Ag Tractor for that the M62 can’t do is provide me an enclosed cab when I’m bush hogging or spraying. So ideally I want to sell my Ag Tractor/backhoe and have a skid steer for loader work, bush hogging and spraying and have an M62 TLB when a TLB is the only way to go. I also have a Case 450 track loader for the really big stuff. Won’t ever sell that. In short, if I could only have one, a TLB, be it commercial type or Ag type over a skid steer all day long. If I was in the position to have a second machine, a skid steer would be my next purchase.
I have the book and adjust some also took to dealership to calibrate and that was a joke thanks for the input and open to any other information are ideas you may have
Love your channel and work my channel is not much but hope to give you a proper shout out at some point thanks for taking the time to watch frank I do appreciate it
Skid steers are lower profile and have great turning radius which is beneficial in a warehouse or tight location. Down side of a skid steer is repairing them or needing forks or bucket half way up and trying to climb out to do a one man operation. I'd stick with what you have as long as you can. The rare occasion that you just have to have a skid steer, rent one.
Thanks for this video. I'm looking to get some land, do some forestry and lumber milling and maybe build a camp. Right now I'm trying to figure out what I need as opposed to want. On the used market, it looks like a 4wd tractor with a loader is going to be about $25k, where a wheeled skid steer is about $15k. Attachments are more expensive for a skid steer, but maybe I only really need 2 or 3 to get started,
Why I’m watching this is because my dad just bought one for 30k with a snow blower, front loader bucket,a back how with two different buckets,a wood splitter, 22 foot trailer to hall it,and I big rake for the back of the tractor
Those JD 110 were so awesome, The cast Iron on that thing was beefy, Sad that JD killed them off was bumbed when I heard the news. The Backhoe on these is killer.
Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions and mine is that I didn't think that I really needed a skid steer but bought one anyway just because I got a good deal on it and after owning one for many years there's no way that I could ever live without one. Now as far as a backhoe is concerned, you can actually buy both a skid steer and a mini excavator for the price of a backhoe and with 2 machines is twice the income if running them both at the same time granted you'd need another guy but I personally will never go back to a backhoe. As far as attachments if you can think of it or even imagine it they make it for a skid steer. Just my thoughts about the experiences that I've had with my business and what works for one person won't necessarily work for another person. Great video!!!
I had one of those for years and loved it!! One thing I would change is I wish it had 50hp. On our mountains up here, it would slow it down pretty good hauling material up the hills. It is definitely much more versatile than a skidsteer, but can't lift nearly as much. I see myself owning one again someday lol
I know this is an old video but these 110's have always been one of my favorite machines and can't wait to have my own someday. Great overview of the machine and great videos Mikey.
They are fine for landscaping and dirt, but we have too much Rock in our area. One customer bought one and used it like he would a 310E and tore it up.
I like the little 110. They are good machines. Used a few in my landscaping days. Versatile units. Power rakes are one of the best things since sliced bread.
I love John Deere farm equipment was raised up on em but you pay for the logo just like a Harley-Davidson. reason 101 why NOT TO BUY JOHN DEERE CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT IS BC THEY DISCONTINUE EVERYTHING, THEY DONT EVEN OFFER THESE 110 BACKHOES ANYMORE AND PARTS ARE HARD TO COME BY. THEY ARE DECENT little backhoes especially for landscaping and smaller site work but again they ARE DISCONTINUED LOL GOOD LUCK FINDING PARTS! Mike love your content brother you have came a very long way for sure! @Dirtperfect
I’m looking into buying a small tractor myself that will take a backhoe hookup. What I’m looking at is a 1025R Deere tractor with a 260 backhoe. I’m hoping it will be just as beneficial to me for my landscape and grading work as this machine has been to you with your work. Nice video.
I wish all John Deere tractors had skid steer attach as a standard feature. Their proprietary system isn’t bad, but connecting to an attachment has become difficult as the dump cylinders don’t move at the same rate. And the attacher are only linked at the pivot point so you really have to mess around to get that attachment on. It was fine brand new, but after a few years it’s difficult.
I have a 110... have owned it for around 4 or 5 years. I have a Harley rake for it and love it, I always said skid loaders are for the birds, mostly meaning the tired verisons... well I made the jump about a month ago to a tracked bobcat t770 and a Harley rake for it and I'm here to tell you that it is so much superior then the 110 in moving dirt, working in wet conditions, strength, speed, and agility that there is no comparison... that being said there are no plans in my future to get rid of the 110 but my outlook on a skidloader vs my beloved 110 have changed more then I'd care to admit.
In response to the sluggish pedal feel, If the machine has a loadmatch switch you need to turn it off. It is to keep the machine from stalling when you go into a pile of dirt. I have a 3320 from 2005 and with loadmatch turned on it feels like there is a delay when you step on the pedal. with it off it moves instantly. You can stall the machine with it off, but it drives so much better.
@@DirtPerfect Your machine may be different. I am not talking about the pedal delay settings(I think the number settings are 1-9). It is just an on off switch on the 3320 next to the steering wheel. It is like having traction control on off switch. Again my 3320 is an 05 and yours might be completely different. If that switch is on it does exactly what you describe.
they both have their place they both have advantages and disadvantages , you get and use what is best suited to your own needs is how i look at anything like this. i like skid steers but i will also say they are absolute back breakers when using for any amount of time and at least with the big tyres you negate a good amount of the shocks vibrations. which is just one advantage and disadvantage to each piece of equipment
also i would honestly wait a little while longer before looking into buying anything, i really do see a recession coming in the next 12 to 18 months and i hate to see people struggle but some will always come out bad from such times, if you wait it out i have no doubt you will be alel to pick up something at a vastly reduced price even from prices you might see around at the moment just because there will be someone who will sell something just to get some money to keep themselves afloat or to clear a debt whatever the reason things do get sold dirt cheap.
The TLB110 was a great marketing idea by Deere. One unit instead of a skid and a mini. Problem is sales were low and parts sales were even lower, thus making this tractor not profitable enough to continue production. It is a heavy duty version of the ag 4720. Great review. BTW ~ don't sell it , you will have sellers remorse .
just about to pull the trigger on a backhoe, a skid steer cant do half the shit a backhoe can. (i know this isnt exactly a backhoe but its the same platform as one ) you cant pick stuff up high you cant load a set of 10 ft disks on a gooseneck, you cant move dirt or material as fast as you can with a bigger tractor, a skid ster is cheaper which is great if youre a home contractor in tight spaces but a bigger machine is better overall. skid steers lifting height is what sucks, especially for us guys that like to pick junk up with chains. with the backhoe boom you can lift up whatever you want 10 ft in the air if u wanted to. kinda sucks when u want to load a trailer and you cant chain up a piece of junk (use your imagination) and your skid steer cant lift it high enough. heh
The skid steer definitely will not replace a tractor with a PTO. We have the skids and we still keep our 125Hp front wheel assist because it is so versatile
Yeah if already set up for 3 point attachments, you might as well stay with the 110. I couldn't be without my track skid steer. Just like your situation, I have a bunch of attachments for it. If you do get a skid steer, stay with John Deere. I love mine and so do a lot of other people who have them.
I always liked the 110, it looks like a handy tractor. Skid steers may be great, but they are expensive to run and the big ones are 100K! Thats hard to believe.
Have you put a gannon box on it? If so, does the tractor apply down force on the gannon like a skip loader or is it just gravity down like a farm tractor?
i always thought the 110 was a cool machine. i had no idea they stopped producing them that long ago. skid steer is also on my list of machines to add but im not ready yet to buy one.
Oh the suspense is killing us! Are you getting a skid steer or not 🤣 I could bring the TL250 up for you to try one weekend, you’ll be like backhoe what?! 🤣 great video! If it’s worked this long it will keep working for you
I like the JD 110 and also the CASE 580! I gotten a chance to play on both! The owner of the 110 said the same thing about the hesitation and sudden take off too! Have a good one!
i would say you definitely get more bang for your buck from the 110. However both have their place for sure. Don't see any reason to spend money if you don't have to. Great review.
Great video Personally I love backhoes we do a lot of utility cable work so they work fine for that. We also have 9 mini excavators but thats just because they are so much eaiser to tow around than a backhoe.
It's Damn hard to beat a 3point power rake for finishing you leave a perfect trail no track markers. And for grading lanes the power rake cannot be beat. Just my .02cents
Great review and opinion video. Makes sense to utilize the attachments you already have and rarely use. I agree with your travel speed example, I have a 2-speed skid steer and it has a top speed of 8+ MPH. Cat B252 B2 (2009 w/1200 hours) Have a JD 410 TLB as well, and completely agree with your point of the things each machine is better at. Much respect for your business choices with equipment and your outlook for the future of your business. Thanx for sharing your opinion and the machines strong and weak points. 2 thumbs up from here! Work safe, see ya on the next 1 Doug@ the "ranch"
Trying to find a video that shows WHERE the button is to detach my forks on the JD TLB 110! I need to put the bucket on. It appears to be a plate style attachment mechanism, not pins. But I could be wrong. Need to find the button first. Help
I have a 110 also, my pedals don't jump or take 3 secs to respond at all. Very fluid as they are depressed actually. Must be a pot that is sticky and out of adjustment.
Hummm, now you have me second guessing myself as you get used to running a piece of equipment as second nature. I’m going to purposely try to notice when I run it next.
Very crisp through out forward and reverse. Zero lag.. That's what I had always remembered. But I have read reports like yours. Obviously this aren't old school physical linkage anymore, there must be a pot that sends a signal. There has to be a way of fixing this. I'll keep my eye out for a resolution. Great video,BTW.
I call your philosophy, Conservative money management equals cash flow plus, so I can be liberal later on ! It's an automatic, "Cut the interest money middle man, out of the middle and put it in your pocket, instead of his ".
Both machines have their strong and weak points. Each one can do things the other one cannot do. Depending on your business you might want to own both.
If you get a John Deere 333G He will also need to get a Mini X And all the attachments 200000. Yes does to machines Are unequivocally better by far than a single tractor
But it's a John Deere. Ha! Just messin with ya! I know there's good and bad about all brands and to each their own. That looks like a pretty useful machine there. And I hear ya on having that vs a skidsteer, if you can do everything with the tractor, and still have a backhoe, and all the other attachments, why have both? I bet JasonMiniBobKittyALot would sell you his if you really wanted one! Good video! Thanks for sharing!
what size hoe bucket can it handle? can the loader clear a triaxle bed? I have been debating getting a mini or a backhoe, but also need a tractor tooo hmmm...

I totally agree TLB is the way to go over skidsteer. Great video man!
Thanks
These 110tlb's are the greatest small farm or estate tractor combo ever invented. I bought mine new in 2007
Behind a kubota M59/M62 they certainly are. Parts availability after being discontinued is lacking and outrageous.
Met you on the live. I love tractors. My Uncle was a farmer and I spent many happy summers on his farm helping out. Farm machinery makes me smile!!
You can adjust the roll out on the Ehydro to dial in the hydro pedal lag. Take a look in the maintenance manual for instructions

But what we REALLY want to know is why you own Crocs 😂

The backhoe is a great machine. But for digging footings I will always be faster in a hoe. That really cant be argued

We have a 110 at the golf course I work at. It can’t lift up a pallet of rough sod. But the skid steer can. It needs more power

You can actually get a three point quick attach to use the tractor attachments on the skid steer. You can even get it with the PTO!

In response to the sluggish pedal feel, If the machine has a loadmatch switch you need to turn it off. It is to keep the machine from stalling when you go into a pile of dirt. Fyi, you should install a hydraulic top link if you have an aux valve. Works excellent with a harley and grader box

Work safe, see ya on the next 1
Doug@ the "ranch"
Thanks Doug appreciate you talking the time to watch and comment
@@DirtPerfect My pleasure sir! Always enjoy your videos and the equipment repair/maintenance work you do.
Enjoy your weekend with your family!
I HERE YA! I HAVE A 03 TLB AND I LOVE IT, WOULD NOT TRADE HER FOR ANY THING!!!
Awesome
should a video on why you have a john deere 110 and not a jcb 3cx
Good idea will try at some point
Trying to find a video that shows WHERE the button is to detach my forks on the JD TLB 110! I need to put the bucket on. It appears to be a plate style attachment mechanism, not pins. But I could be wrong. Need to find the button first. Help
Mine was manual two levers up
Front on the plat
I have a 110 also, my pedals don't jump or take 3 secs to respond at all. Very fluid as they are depressed actually. Must be a pot that is sticky and out of adjustment.
Interesting I have ran several all the same
Hummm, now you have me second guessing myself as you get used to running a piece of equipment as second nature. I’m going to purposely try to notice when I run it next.
@@DirtPerfect Sorry I forgot to get back to you. So I went out and ran the 110 and the throttle response what perfect. Very crisp
Check out the Kubota M59 I replaced my 110 8 years ago M59 is much stronger
Awesome explanation man! Great video!
Thank you sir and thanks for watching
I call your philosophy, Conservative money management equals cash flow plus,
so I can be liberal later on !
It's an automatic, "Cut the interest money middle man, out of the middle and put it
in your pocket, instead of his ".
Does your 110 have aux hydraulics on the front and rear? Could you use a quick attach post hole digger on the front?
Not on the front
Good video, nice compromise.
Thanks
Both machines have their strong and weak points. Each one can do things the other one cannot do. Depending on your business you might want to own both.
Very true would love to have both one day
If you get a John Deere 333G He will also need to get a Mini X And all the attachments 200000. Yes does to machines Are unequivocally better by far than a single tractor
As I've said before horses for courses each have there place.
Very true for sure
But it's a John Deere.
Ha! Just messin with ya! I know there's good and bad about all brands and to each their own. That looks like a pretty useful machine there. And I hear ya on having that vs a skidsteer, if you can do everything with the tractor, and still have a backhoe, and all the other attachments, why have both? I bet JasonMiniBobKittyALot would sell you his if you really wanted one! Good video! Thanks for sharing!
Lol your probably right about Jason thanks for watching
i have had a 110 tlb for 5 years i dig graves ' with it and use it on my farm. i have turf tires on it they are great . dose not hardly leave a track.
I bet
The problem is that the gages fog up because of the no cab
Lol no not it
I mean the no cab dose contribute to it
I just ran across this video. Do you still have the 110? It seems like such a handy tractor to have around.
No I do not but miss it
I smashed that like button so hard i cracked my screen. Haha
lol awesome thanks so much
what size hoe bucket can it handle? can the loader clear a triaxle bed? I have been debating getting a mini or a backhoe, but also need a tractor tooo hmmm...
I have a 12” 24” and 36” bucket dose good with 12 and 24 and ok with 36 and that is one down side will not load a triaxel without a ramp
Whats the reach on the backhoe? Any idea what it weighs?
10 k 8 feet
7600#
Do you still have this? Haven’t seen it in a while
No
What’s with the oil leak?
It’s where the fuel pumps bolts to the side of injection pump easy fix just need to take the time to do thanks for watching
what do you think a 110 should cost today with 3000 hours?
Depending on how it was taken care of 18 to 22k
@@DirtPerfect I wanted to get into pond building and thought it would be a perfect size
Very versatile pice of equipment but not for sure it is big enough to dig a pond
@@DirtPerfect It just for water features and koi ponds
New friend ❤️
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Very true
You can always use mine did I mention I hate John deere and their service in our area lol
Lol think I have heard you say that before
and then ya went and bought a Kubota, eye roll, deep moan, were ya wearin your Crocs that day ya made that decision???
