    Carla ran an incredible race. Well done. The reflections on ultra running are on point, I love the reference to nature. You just don't get that with road running. I used to hate the idea of trail running, but now I've done over 10 trail ultras, I wouldn't go back!

    A goos insight into the highs and lows of ultra running. It really does seem to take a huge amount of preparation to guard againat avoidable errors which can massively derail things.

    A nice refreshing take on ultra running . Other people’s personal autobiographical introspective videos are for me more interesting than the gear promoting or the vailed quasi expertise a lot of UA-camrs are making .

    Great vid, missed this one! It's interesting to hear about your experiences with ultra marathons. I can relate to the need for some quiet headspace during the race. Also, encountering animals on the trail sounds like a nice touch. Keep pushing your limits and enjoying those adventures with fellow runners!

    excellent work Carla and what an impressive time!! 👌 Interesting to hear your thoughts on provisions for female athletes at events. I know that many of them are trying to get better at this which is much needed for sure! The Race to the Stones event this year had various sanitary products available in their portaloos which was a really nice touch. I also dread the day i'm attempting a long run while on my period, it's not fun and I always feel depleted of energy. I read the book ROAR and am trying to get in tune with my bodies needs but I need to read it again and try and digest the info a bit better. As a slow runner (my fastest time for a 50k is 9 hours) I'm always very much at the back of the pack which can be a lonely place, perfect if you like solitude and sometimes it's really nice to just be in your own zone but in times of discomfort I do enjoy someone elses voice being a distraction to my own negative thoughts.

    • @carlastevens2993
      @carlastevens2993 6 місяців тому +1

      Great to hear Race To The Stones had sanitary products. I haven't yet been on my period during an event - been lucky! But I know it will happen at some point. For longer endurance events I think it needs to become an necessity for portaloos to be available at check points with sanitary disposal and products. I think a lot more people who menstruate will feel more comfortable signing up knowing that. Hopefully it will progress further. I can understand depending where you are in the pac you can naturally end up being more on your own and at times having others around you can help push you on. At Hurtwood 50K the field was more spread out as they gave you the option to start earlier which was nice but at the same time you did end up finding yourself more on your own. I think the fact you got through that distance alone shows how strong you are! Thanks for your support 😊.

    Superb video, and great to hear your thoughts on ultras and how this race went, Carla. I'm also at the quieter end of the scale 😅 I think I already said so on Strava, but I'd be really happy with just over 7 hours in a 50k race like that. Well done 👍🏻🏃‍♂️🙂

    Bravo Carla 👏🏻 I messaged you and said congrats via Ben's Strava, me and my wife both did Hurtwood and it was our first ever Ultra. I can't put into words how difficult I found that terrain. Like you said it took so much extra effort having to be extra conscious of each step otherwise you were having a mud bath! 😂 In the end I was just pleased I finished! Keep up the great work and keep us posted on your running adventures, it's the Lulworth Cove marathon for us up next 👌🏻

    🎉🏅BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO Carla !!🏅🎉🍾🥂 Very inspirational, as always!! And really a great video too, so interesting to hear your thoughts!! My next trail ultra is start of April (will be my second as well), and I've already started training and feeling nervous about the pain and suffering, BUT I've noticed whenever I tell someone I'm doing it, I feel just joy and excitement.😁😁 My huge inspiration came from a youtube video I saw of the Cortina 50k Trail (the Dolomites, Italy) with almost 2600m of elevation gain , I now want to do that soooo much so I have a LOT of work to do to get to that level!!
    I hope you manage to find a solution your fueling with more experimenting… the FOD Runner cut out gluten, have you tried that?? ENJOY your recovery Carla!! 💪🏻🏃🏻‍♀💪🏻

      Hi Bev, thanks for you continuing support 😊. I don't really eat too much gluten in my diet these days so don't think gluten is a contributor think it's just about getting my stomach used to eating solids on longer runs. Also, hopefully with time I wont feel as nervous 😅. Good luck in your second ultra in April you will do great! I found consistency really helped. Would love to hear how you get on and what type of training you are doing working towards that amount of elevation.

      @@carlastevens2993 THANKS Carla!! Well my main training is running hiking trails, especially heading off on multi-day running “adventures” around France. And I joined my local athletics club too so getting quite a few double days in that way!! Next summer I’m gonna head to the Alps to start practicing with poles in REAL elevation!! Running adventures are such an awesome way to see the country!! And I focus more on the adventure and destination rather than distances which I find personally more motivational 🙋🏻‍♀️

    • @carlastevens2993
      @carlastevens2993 6 місяців тому

      Ben created my training plan based around my current fittness, my goals for the race and to make sure I could fit it around work. Every week I aimed to do a speedier run, easy run, strength and conditioning exercises, sometimes hill reps/or medium length run and then a longer run at the weekend. You can find loads of different free plans online if you just Google search 50K running plans. I would say find one that you think is manageable for you 😊. Thanks for your support.

    Hello. Congratulations on completing the event, I thought of the runners when I was comfortable and indoors this weekend!
    Have you tried Ginger to help with the nausea? A friend recommended it to me and it helped a lot. I find Ginger Beer great if there's a drop bag, or the little packets that often come with Sushi if I have to carry it.
