7,000 total for a Trane XR14, 5 ton, standard cooling and heating unit (didn't get company's name who makes it or any specs on heating unit). $ sounds more than reasonable, BUT, contractor is under a suspended license due to worker comp issues and only still working on a surety bond. What would you do? Take or leave? Take a chance that things come out okay?
$5900 for condenser and air handler installed. Air handler has variable speed fan. I thought it was pretty cool, but after living with it for 6 months, I thin it's more of a gimmick than anything.
My family's AC system was also the same price (around $6000), but it is an XR16, and has anyone noticed that the newer Trane compressors are black (and not orange), as well as using only 2 blade fans (and not 3 or 4 blades)?

Stealth Fighter I could see it being a little more quiet when the load is low but on a normal hot day I'd think it would be just as loud
The system is great. I just think the variable speed blower is not really necessary. As far as the outside unit, it's that quiet year round.
