A simpler way to check the TXV is un plug the condenser fan. As head pressure rises the suction pressure should remain stable.

I mean 19 bar high side and the low side is only 2.5 bar to 3.2 bar. Added R407f but the low pressure didn’t go up , the filter seemed okay, warm on the inlet and warm also on the outlet. I already added more or less 2kg of r407 f but pressure on the low side is less than 3 bar. The evaporator is icing after like the compressor running for 39 Mindy it’s already Jason build up of ice the coil and the txt are as well

I have a problem with my packaged unit on the ship. Compressor run but always cut out on a low pressure switch. The ice on the evaporator and the compressor itself is icing too. Until the compressor stop running. The low suction pressure could not reach to to 5 bar. And run only for a Hotwire and cut out out on a low pressure switch. I added refrigerant but seemed the pressure dint go up. Remain at 2.5 to 3 bar. Even after adding R497F pressure didn’t go up. The unit is 5 kg 407f when running in good . High side pressure and 9 bar. My question is, why the low suction pressure remains low

What happens if the small tube near the sensing bulb had a leakage and repair? Will the txv still function normally? To further explain is the sensing bulb a capillary pipe connected to the head of txv and a small one which is the end. That other end capillary tube was leak repaired. Can it still function normally? Thanks so much.

Unhook the condenser fan motor from the contactor. The high side will go up. If the low side stays around the same, the TXV is good. If it doesn't, then it's bad.

The indoor txv is also used in heat mode! 😊 If you find a heat pump having issues with not defrosting properly, it could be a defrost switch, thermistor sensor, defrost circuit board...or it could be your indoor TXV. Three in the last 20 years went bad in the winter time. Hundreds in cool mode. Mostly because homeowners don't pay attention to abnormally high Jan/Feb power bills and persistent ice buildup on hp coil.

Just a quick question , maybe someone can help me out. suction and head pressures were low, which was an indication of a leak somewhere. Popped open panel to the air handler and started searching for leaks. Long behold good old fashioned soap and bubbles brought me to the leak coming from the txv. The valve is similar to the one you are holding, I noticed that the cap that’s seated at the very bottom of the valve was cracked and resulting in the leak . Do you suggest replacing just the cap or the whole thermal expansion valve? Thank you

Superheat and subcooling? Those are my main tools for troubleshooting a TXV. If I have high superheat and my subcooling is good that's a pretty good indicator there is an issue with the TXV. High super heat low subcooling - charge issue more then likely.

You're intermixing setup and installation/design problems with "for real", component functional failures. Clogged filter, defective TXV, leaks, capacitor, compressor, contactor, are component functional failures.
If an AC has been in operation for years then all the installation/design errors are moot. You should be making that distinction in your narrative, e.g. if you're on a call and the customers AC unit's been in operation for five years then likely the ductwork sizing, piping, etc. is moot unless there's been recent work on the system to change those areas. The tech should be focused on component failures not installation problems. Those kinds of calls are most common. You're dissertation here would be very confusing to a noob, indeed.

Saying, you have to know what you were doing, is of no use at all other than to be condescending Lee simple minded as you are saying it. Knowing what you are doing covers a lot of things. One being that a person can be technically savvy at what they do, and not be a worth a flip at teaching it. Only a good teacher can have an opinion I want a good teacher. Nonsensical rhetoric comments are not helpful. A lot of possible TXV problems could come after a system has been running for a long time without any issues. Then you will see high head pressure in some cases and the clicking sound of the TXV on and off. WHEN BEING A TEACHER, DO NOT EXPECT ANYBODY TO READ YOUR MIND. At least, pretend to be teaching new people from the ground up succinctly. There is a time limit I understand however, make it count.
