God damn this thing sounds AMAZING. Seriously one of the best jazz tones I've ever heard
This is a masterful performance of a great old tune on a fabulous instrument. (Of course, the instrument doesn't really matter; this guy could make a tomato can sound good.)
Tony Lombardo the audio is too low I can't hear it
I've been playing Guitar, Banjo (5 string) and mandolin for over 45 years. I haven't anywhere near the talent this guy has. if I ever meet him I think I'll drag him outside and break both his hands. (Kiddin)
4 strings - all you need!
My guitar teacher tlold me the high E is to get in the way of the melody and the low E is to get in the way of the bass. I suppose he was right.
@@corrda1993 Ah but with an Electric guitar the lower tension strings are easier to play
Fabulous instrument, masterfully played... the tone and the playing style kinda reminds me of Barney Kessel. 😎 (For those who may not be familiar with the name, he played guitar on Julie London’s “Cry Me a River” , amongst many other great recordings.)
that is so neat - was not aware that gibson built such high end tenor jazz guitars. sounds out of this world.
gibson practically invented them XD
Hell, if you want to talk high-end tenors -- d'Angelico and d'Aquisto both made them. Only one or two seem to come up for sale every year, and expect to pay at least $10K.
Tyler, I'd love to hear a full album of this kind of thing if you ever make one! Puts me in such a nice mood and I just want to keep replaying it!
Hi Matt. We're really glad you liked it.
Tyler no longer works with us, but you can message him through his UA-cam channel @Bassface86 or his webpage www.tylerjacksonmusic.com/.
Great tone. Tyler is such a fine fellow. Talk about a "smooth one". This performance is as smooth as silk.
You play with feeling and artistry. I'm a tenor banjo player myself and am considering buying a tenor guitar. The guitar I now play is tuned CGDAEB. The C is up an octave and the B is down and octave. The middle 4 are like an octave mandolin.
Thanks for inspiring me.
Magma makes a set of 5ths Tuned Strings (GCT-Cello) which are made out of nylon to keep the tension down and you have quite a fun 5 octave range.
Thank you!
@@TylerJackson10er Magma GCT-Cello Strings (C2, G2, D3, A3, E4, B4) would give this instrument a larger range.
@RichardStillman Magma GCT-Cello Strings (Tuned C2, G2, D3, A3, E4, B4) would give you a larger 5 Octave Range on your 6 string Guitar & they're Nylon so the tension is lower & gentler on the Fingers.
Nice instrument, good demo too...
(is-it easy to find one like this ?)
Regards
Gibson should make these again someday
Nice to see that John Lawlor is not the only one. Beautiful !
Nice playing and a great sounding guitar. That really sounds sweet!
....beautiful! How did you tune this fab tenor?
It's in a Mandola Tuning so it's C, G, D, A.
REALLY GREAT.looking for a Tenor Guitar , I'm not expecting that kind of quality.
If you want a vintage one, but can't spring for a Gibson, Martin or Epi, consider a Kay. They typically go for $250=400, and are a great tenor to start with; much better than a Harmony, which are the cheapest vintage tenor that's readily available.
Is it tuned fourths ?
This one is tuned the same as a Tenor Banjo
@@RockStarOscarStern634 GDAE or CGDA typically
Sounds great
What amp did you run it through?
A Carr tube amp
Wonderful! Love it!
Lovely playing--I love the tenor guitar!
What tuning?
it's the same Tuning as a tenor Banjo so it's a tenor banjo neck on a guitar body
Beautiful Tyler, well done
Your playing accompanied by amplification makes this style of tenor guitar work. Purely acoustic, the old tenor guitar stringing does not create the vibration that sound cavity needs to resonate at its best. Oh shoot, i wish i could remember his name... decades ago i bought a tenor guitar from a craftsman from the great lakes region, his company was Ernest Instruments, but he has retired since then. He lovingly crafted instruments that were sized and voiced appropriately for tenor stringing. I own one of his five string tenor guitars which of course i cannot play because i am a wrecking ball with a flat pick! :) BTW, the 5-string tenors he built, the fifth string was a low F. Personally i found myself gravitating back to the traditional four string tenor because it was just more manageable. However, i have already admitted my chops were never sufficient for a four string, much less a five string. One thing that i still have trouble with on that instrument, and the luthier warned me about in advance -he was not dishonest, was that the A string had a tendency to snap. But, really, the A string on any tenor banjo or guitar must be eased very carefully.
the pickup makes a big difference
The 5 String Tenor Guitar with a Low F has a radius in the fretboard to make it easier to play
The Larger body means that GDAE Tuning might work OK on this.
You can even tune this GDAE (John Pearse #450 Strings 13, 20w, 30w, 42w in Flatwound Versions) to take advantage of the bigger body.
Lovely rendition of a wonderful tune!
just great ............
Great Guitar GREAT PLAYING.
awesomeness!
just now getting into tenor guitar after 60 years of guitar playing...this is wonderful playing on a great sounding instrument ! Would be great to own such an instrument, but probably not many around ! and also $$$$
Thanks! We did have a Soares’y tenor Tele a couple of months ago. It was a very nice guitar. Unfortunately we don't currently have one in store.
very nice
Very tasty!
A tenor guitar lover's wet dream
Love it
what's the tuning ... dgbe?
+Undercoverbus which one? cello cdga or viola cdga
+Adam Jones viola octave, though he may have it tuned dgba in this video
Hi. I tune my tenor guitar the same as my tenor banjo... CGDA in the Viola range.
@@TylerJackson10er It's basically a Tenor Banjo neck on a Guitar body
@@RockStarOscarStern634 of course. That’s where the name came from 😎
Thank you for all of the kind words :)
wonder if anybody realizes that you're playing you got a Friend in Me from Toy Story
