4:55 "Michael Jordan has yet to save the Tampa Bay Lightning" I realize now you're talking about Lecavalier, but not before I wondered if I missed a few hockey games
I moved to Texas from the UK in 98 and became a life-long hockey, and Stars fan because of that team and that run even having to drive 4 hours up I35 from Austin to get to the games.
Tip for a video my friend: What would it take for someone to become even greater than Gretzky in todays hockey? Besides numbers, but those will never be topped.. but IF someone could become even greater, what would they need to do?
Get outta here with that BS. That whole season and post-season, the NHL was insane about the feet in the crease and then not to call it after a whole year of crazy over-enforcement.
We need a mention of the Chris Chelios trade from Chicago to Detroit on March 23, 1999. He served as a replacement in toughness of the injured Konstantinov and would be another key piece of the Hall of Fame laden Red Wings of 2002.
I was conflicted about this season. As a native Texan, I was happy to see Lord Stanley’s Cup come to the Lone Star State. However as a native Houstonian, it’s our birthright to despise anything Dallas 😄It would be like asking a Yankee fan root for the Red Sox or a Leafs fan to root for the Habs.
As a huge Stars fan from Houston, this is a non issue as long as Houston doesn’t have an NHL team. I hope they do and will be a fan when they do. But for now they don’t, so Go Stars!
The worst part about that buffalo/toronto series, is that Hasek was injured for the first two games. Leafs couldn't beat their back up, Dwayne Roloson, who was still a few years away from making his name as a 1B tandem goalie with Many Fernandez in Monnesota, and even further away from Solidifying himself as a legit number 1 with Edmonton. It was definitely a fun year up until the Sabres series though.
Ah as an Av fan..best of times,& worst of times. I was at game 6 vs Dallas...old Mcnichols Arena...Avs up 3-2,& score the 1st goal! Ozolinsh hits the crossbar that would've made it 2-0,& I'm convinced Avs role to the Finals,if that goes in. This is the 1st of 4 straight seasons, where we got to at least game 7 of WCFs. Won 2001 Cup,but lost game 7 on the road, the other 3 seasons. And 2 of the 3,the Western Conference Finals, were defacto Cup Finals.(2000 not the case with NJ there). A run that would end up with 6 out of 7 Conference Finals...making at least game 6 every time. Even beat 2 time defending Champs,& arch rival Detroit in 2nd round in 1999,& 2000. We knew we had it good, but maybe took it a bit for granted. "Ya the 2 Cups are awesome, but look how close we were to winning 4 or 5. Which was true, but our hatred for Detroit/Dallas,at the time, made it tough to appreciate their brilliance. In hindsight,I just have total appreciation for those 3 teams,(& NJ)-& how great those teams were. And as I sit here in 2022,with another great Avalanche team...but a team that hasn't made the Conference Finals in 20 years...let alone won a Cup in 21 years,I realize we had no clue how good we had it. Obviously it's totally different with the salary cap...I don't think we will ever again see a team go to 6 conference finals in 7 years. Ed Belfour is still in my nightmares from 1999,& 2000...also Hatcher,& Matmichuk, being allowed to assault,& batter Forsberg,& Dallas purposely mucking up their ice,to slow down the Avs. Remember it's late May or June in Dallas,at old Reunion Arena. They didn't need to do much to soften up the ice,& slow down the faster Avs. But amazing to think, the next season we lose again in Dallas in game 7.Bourques shot gets deflected off thepost,by Deadmarsh, with seconds to go,down 3-2. Then after Bourques magical 2001 Cup season, everybody forgets about 2002. 2002 Detroit, best team I've ever seen-since I started watching the NHL in 1995. 2001 Avs are #2,as teams in the post cap era, just can't compete with the depth,& star power of teams back then. Wings already had won 2 Cups,& had like 6 HOFers or something...then add Brett Hull,Darian Hatcher,Luc Robatile,Dominick Hasek,& Chris Chellios (a year or 2 earlier)-are you kidding me? None of them were in their primes, but all were still good to fringe All star type players. And Zetterburg/Datsyuk were just kids...maybe even rookies. But that was an amazing team,& considering Colorado lost Bourque,& a few other guys... it's amazing we even got back to 2002 WCF. That Av team was the 1st ever to go 7 games,in each of the 1st 3 rounds.Roy had game 7 shutouts,in 1st & 2nd round. Forsberg missed the entire regular season,& came back to lead the NHL in playoff scoring, despite not making the Finals. Everybody remembers Roy getting lit up 7-0 in game 7 in Detroit. What they forget is the amazing run to even get that far. Avs had 3-2 series lead, after winning game 5 in OT in Detroit...& never scored again, losing 2-0,& 7-0. Red Wings we're just better,& found their game. They had lost in 1st round in '01,& 2nd round to Colorado in '99,& '00, Colorado just straight ran out of gas. Not only 3 straight 7 game series, but 4 straight WCFs-at least making game 7,& 6 out of 7 WCFs. Even though Forsberg won the Hart,& we eeked out the division again in 2003,those game 6,& 7 losses to Detroit, were really the end of the run. Lost to Minnesota in 1st round in 2003. I knew when Detroit won game 6 in Denver 2-0,we weren't beating that team in game 7 in Detroit. But that's how close Colorado came to being the team of that era. Would've been our 3rd Cup,instead of Detroit,& would've been back 2 back. Because we knew back then, whoever won the WCFs,would destroy a pedestrian Carolina in Cup Finals. And Detroit did-after dropping game 1 in OT at home, they mauled Carolina 4 straight. They later admitted, game 1 was due to trying to recover emotionally,& physically, from that Colorado series. But the better team certainly won. In 1999,& 2000 (especially)-Im still not sure Dallas was the better team, but they were great,& home ice definitely mattered. Ed Belfour was unbelievable,& the rules back then favored guys like Matmichuk,& Hatcher. I couldn't stand Hatcher, but had to put up with losing to him in game 7 on the road,in 1999,2000,& 2002-as he was on Detroit in '02-lol. But I remember people saying,"Avs had a nice run,but should've won 1 or more Cups. There is probably is some truth to that-probably should've won 1 of those Dallas series. But in hindsight,it's not like we lost to bum teams. Those Wing,& Star teams were stacked. And hard to believe,I'd be sitting here 20 years later,& we still haven't made as much as WCF. Watching game 7 in 2002,I had no clue,it'd be the last time I'd see my Avs in WCF,for at least 2 decades. Time to end that current Avs....then we will worry bout winning the 1st Cup in 21 yrs.
Caught the Michael Jordan joke. Only memory that miffed me was Gretzky trying to fit in at the awards with his "looked legal to me" quip. Cuz of that I pretty much forgot the rest of his goodbye speech.
Shannon can you help me a little. What manufacturer is your dallas jersey and what size is it. I'm looking for exactly same on ebay but im not sure about what size would fit for 170cm "manlet" like me. :D Medium CCM jerseys are good, medium maska jerseys are tight. Size varies so much between manufacturers and models.
Christian Moore I prefer it to the sort of square peg in a round hole type look that is the 'D' shoehorned inside of a star where it doesn't quite fit.
That empty net missed by Stefan is important to Edmonton fans, if he scores and presuming nothing else in the season changes, Edmonton gets Patrick Kane instead of Chicago.
Division winners in the 1-8 system should never had been guaranteed a top 3 seed. Go back to 1-8, no division seeding guarantee, no reseeding after round 1. Just do it like the NBA’s playoff bracket. Much simpler.
Under the current playoffs format and using the current divisions DAL vs CGY COL vs STL ARI vs EDM ANA vs SJ OTT vs BOS TOR vs DET NJ vs BUF PHI vs PIT
Pretty sure Osgood got hurt in Round 1 so Bill Ranford had to start in Round 2 and he couldn’t stop a beach ball in the last 4 games in the Colorado series.
Jonathan Zygmunt yeah ranford idk how that guy even has a conn smythe when clearly Craig Simpson was the best player in the finals. 4 goals 4 assists, a ton of points, ranford had a 912 save % and never again topped 900 in save %, idk why Detroit never kept ticker idk why they traded him to Tampa.
Josh Siegel The issue with that 1-8 system was it guaranteed division winners a top 3 seed. The NHL should go back to 1-8 and adopt the NBA’s playoff bracket, no division winner top 3 seed guaranteed, no reseeding after Round 1.
falerdog he's 28... at least know what you're saying before you come prancing over here. Idc when he makes it I'm not bitching up a storm needing the vid to come out it's a simple suggestion. If you don't think the Karlsson trade shakes up the west more you're out out of your damn mind

4:55 "Michael Jordan has yet to save the Tampa Bay Lightning"
I realize now you're talking about Lecavalier, but not before I wondered if I missed a few hockey games
Gretzky was undoubtedly the greatest of all time and anyone who says otherwise is crazy
Adam Scott just because I say otherwise doesn’t make me crazy!
I agree with you but I think it’s debatable. I don’t think it’s crazy to suggest otherwise
mel obrien wish I could have saw him play, lol at the wimp ass helmet comment player safety is a good thing dude come on lmao
Thank you so much for the shout out man!
Yes been waiting for 99. Got to see my Stars win the cup that year. I absolutely loved that Stars team that year.
It was the 3rd OT. The refs probably were like, "Screw it; it's a stupid rule, let's count it and end this game already."
Grapes called it apparently
The man who will help bring the Capitals to the promise land in the future starts his great NHL head coaching career.
Capitals prospects are dominating. Hopefully a good sign for the future.

Started in Minnesota, didn't it?

Nieuwendyk doesn’t get talked about enough
Nieuwendyk made top 100 players over recchi, hawerchuk, malkin and thornton. I'd say he's recognized enough
The guy had no business being in the top 100 players
@@brettpatterson404 Why?
1999 was a great year Manchester United won the treble , Ulster won the Heineken Cup and the Stars won the Stanley Cup
