  • Well the day has finally come. 10 years in the making, you're finally going to hear the engine run. Lets hope the finishing of the rest of the truck goes a lot quicker.

    Great job Ken getting the engine running . That is always a good feeling to hear it start after its sat for so long.

      Thanks Lloyd, it sure was a relief to hear it fire. It actually scared me, because I wasn't expecting it to run without some more tinkering. So now on to installing a radiator and letting her run to tweak it some more.

      Thanks, it's definitely a milestone for me. I wish I had more history of the truck, but it's been a long time since that engine has run.

    Congrats on it running I’m sure with more tinkering you will figure out the choke and fuel pump issues, nice job Ken

      Thanks Dennis, yes that is the plan. I'm going to take off that carb and take a look at a few things. I definitely need to get the choke operational.

    Nice to see someone using the original rather than just replacing with the newer 235.

      Yeah when I bought the truck everything was there, so I just fixed up the original and now have a good running 207. Thanks for watching.

    Congratulations Ken - Major Progress on getting it started! Looks like it finally started drawing fuel from the pump it was running for a while.

      Thanks Mark, it scared me the first time it popped, I wasn't expecting it to run. But the starting fluid was the trick. I'll get a radiator on it and let her run awhile.

    Very nice might I suggest look at your plugs. The condition will tell if the fuel is to rich or to lean. Might need more carburetor work

    • @snowking55
      @snowking55  3 роки тому

      Thanks Howard, you're right with the plugs, they should tell me the story. I just need to let it run longer, need to get the radiator on and keep the engine cool. The carb will need some attention too, get the choke functioning and hopefully she'll run pretty smooth.

    Great Job,,,,,we're putting a 37 together
    is there a link between the plate on the bottom of clutch pedal and the throwout arm or does the hole in that plate simply slide over the arm? Thank You in advance for any light you may shed upon us.

    • @snowking55
      @snowking55  Рік тому

      The clutch pedal arm has a hole in the plate at the bottom and the throwout bearing arm slides through it, and then there is a pin or cotter pin that goes through the arm to keep it from coming out of the clutch arm. Hope this helps.

    i sure like that engine. mine is a 194 cu.in. but with yours being the last one before the 216.. im thinking it is a 207.. is that correct. they are so simple and so much fun. Had yours been into before? when I took mine apart to split the manifold. it had tiny little original chevrolet bow ties stamped on everything.. even the gasket under the carburetor has a tiny little bow tie. fun stuff, thanks for posting!

    • @snowking55
      @snowking55  3 роки тому

      Yep she's a 207 Ken. I'm glad it finally started, I was getting a bit discouraged, guess I didn't try hard enough. Now on to getting the radiator in and letting her run awhile.

  • @mikerussell505

    Ken,
    You probably know this, but your carburetor is not the original for your truck. You should have a Carter W-1. It is cast iron and does not have an automatic choke. I have some if you need one. If you had a manual choke to use during startup, it might help. Both my '35 Chevy coupe and my '36 Chevy 1-1/2 ton truck are running the W-1. They both start and run great.
    You mentioned your oil pressure gauge. I assume it was a slip of the tongue and that you are aware that the temperature gauge goes in that location. You should probably have an oil pressure gauge hooked up to watch during early startup. You apparently have a plug in the place where it wound connect. Otherwise you would be squirting oil everywhere.

    • @snowking55
      @snowking55  3 роки тому

      Yeah I know Mike, I have a W-1 off of the '35 engine, it's a bit rough, but I'm going to clean it up and get a carb kit and rebuild it and see what it does. It came with the YF carb that's on it, I just need to get the choke functioning and it should start easier and probably run smoother. Yeah you caught me, that's a temp gauge not an oil pressure gauge, duh. I'm going to see if I have one laying around to hook it up to the oil distributor. I did plug it with a bolt, found out the hard way when I was turning the oil pump over with a drill, dumped about a half of quart of oil on the floor. Appreciate the comment as always Mike.

    • @mikerussell505
      @mikerussell505 3 роки тому

      @@snowking55 Take a close look at the W-1 before you spend a lot of time on it. The ones from '36 and earlier had too few screws holding the bowl cover down. The cover would warp. Later versions had two more screws so the covers would stay flat. There is a procedure for straightening the cover in an oven at 400?? degrees. I can find out specifics if you want to know. Early W-1s had a straight throttle lever then they changed to an offset lever. I'm not sure when this change occurred, but '36/'37, I think. Either one will work. I swapped out the shaft on a late carb for my truck to keep it looking correct and get the later cover.
      Your engine sounds great and the rest of your project looks just as good. You can catch me over at VCCA Chat. I'm 35mike over there. We could exchange direct emails for more convenient communication, if you like. Keep up the good work.

    • @snowking55
      @snowking55  3 роки тому

      @@mikerussell505 Thanks for the information Mike. The W-1 I have is probably no good, it's rusty and needs a lot of TLC, and it's a '35. I've got everything freed up, but I don't think I'll proceed from what you're telling me. I'm going to add a manual choke to the YF I have and see how it goes. I appreciate the offer, and I might take you up on that if the present carb won't work correctly. My email is: koman1955@gmail.com. Thanks again Mike for the input.

  • @TheShadeTreeFixitMan

    Is your choke closing when you try to start it? These old girls like lots of choke and if the carburetor is leaking down it would take even more to get it to run on it's own. It sounded pretty good otherwise. It's always a good thing to get them to run to keep the juices flowing. Congratulations, Ken!

    • @snowking55
      @snowking55  3 роки тому

      Thanks George, the choke is not operating at this point, that's why I put my hand over the carb to give a bit of choke, man does that thing have some suction, scared me. But I'm going to focus on that carb and get a radiator in it and probably adjust the timing a bit and it should smooth out pretty good.
