    I use GATES alot.. my stage is in a Corner, with the Drums 8' from the typical Downstage Vocal position. I make sure that the Vox Mics are 'closed' as much as possible to help with Ambient Noise from the Kit, yet fast enuf to catch the Vox when required. Thanks for the Tips on Attack/Release

      You might consider the chili peppers gate, depending on what your context is. Essentially have two vocal mics on top of each other flipped out of polarity. This allows for a clean signal to come into just one mic, but anything that is coming into both gets canceled out.

    Thanks! Your method of "explanation & example" really helped improve my understanding of these "Knob Labels" and their impacts on the wave file (audio). "Knob Label: Range" is still elusive to me.

      Range or Depth is the highest (lowest?) amount the gate will push down the signal when it's closed.

    Thanks for this great tutorial. I never was able to grasp the concept of gate even in my audio school to this day. But now I'm enlightened. Thanks a lot again.

      (This isn't me throwing a course at you) I actually have content about compressors, among MANY other topics, inside of Attaway Audio Academy: www.attawayaudio.com/academy
      It's only $19 a month and I encourage you to check it out!

      Hey Srinivas! The console is the PreSonus StudioLive 32 series iii. It has a lot of great features for teaching. Very helpful.

    Interesting... as far as I'm understanding, it's good for bass, so the bass resonance doesn't invade and challenge against other frequencies.

    Can you explain why you went with the PreSonus mixer over a x/m32 or another board in the same range?

    • @AttawayAudio
      @AttawayAudio  4 роки тому +1

      Great question! It has some features that are really helpful for teaching - A/B on EQ, compression & gates, plus easy VSC options built-in. I’m already a StudioOne fan, so DAW mode is helpful for me too. Plus I just like being a little different, so I thought I’d try something not everyone else has. It has its limitations (no de-esser option...???) but it’s mostly for teaching, so the no-Dante thing doesn’t cramp my style much.

    • @jdj2035
      @jdj2035 4 роки тому

      I’m mixing with a m32 with the WSG waves card every week. Running auto tune with our vocals and some EQ and compression on the kick. The routing limitations kind of suck since we still do most of our eq, compression, etc in the m32 still. I’d love to be able to put the waves behind the EQ and compression like you’ve shown on the SSL board your mix on, but it isn’t possible.
      All in all it’s a good board, but I’m ready for the next level.
      I’m really liking the look of the waves lv1 with the right stage boxes and multi touch monitors. I played with one at infoCOMM this year and it was pretty easy to figure out the workflow of the board.

    • @AttawayAudio
      @AttawayAudio  4 роки тому

      That sounds like a pretty rad setup, nonetheless! Aside from the tuning, another option you could try for creative compression is using it on mix busses. If you can get the routing/latency worked out, it can add a whole lot of fun things to try. Of course, it's all baby steps; no one thing you do is going to transform your mix. I haven't tried the LV1 yet, mostly because I really love the tactile feeling of faders and not staring at a screen. Let me know when you upgrade how that goes!
