    I feel like this channel is single-handedly holding the boot industry accountable.
    To such a degree that I feel like boots that were garbage previously are increasing quality and craftsmanship so they don't end up on the wrong side of this specific UA-cam channel.
    Before Rose anvil I don't remember anyone really cutting boots in half to see what the inner construction is.
    Good job !

      I literally stopped buying boots for a long time because of the enshitification of everything and I only started buying again because of this channel so maybe at least some manufacturers should be grateful this channel exists. With the exception of bates which I daily shit kick, I know they aren't the highest quality in the world but for the price they last well enough.

    Please please please reconsider how you interpret the bar drop test.
    By your standards a solid piece of steel would perform pretty good. You only mesure the amount of energy transfered back to the bar.
    Energy absorbtion is pretty important to comfort...
    That why you car runs on spring and shocks. You are currently measuring if soles are a good spring, but It does not make them the equivalent of a good suspension system.

    • @TheKarle22
      @TheKarle22 День тому

      Yup it is the most useless test they do. Tbf I think that at least it doesn't take much time, and is also non-destructive. But as you said it is not meaningful in terms of what it is trying to showcase/measure (comfort, more or less), and additionally to just the material properties there are other meaningful vatiables influencing its results, e.g. how well the boot is held in place during impact, where the ball hits, the full surface area of the outsole etc...
      I just don't care about that test, but tbh they do not make a big deal out of its results so it doesn't bother me that much

    • @UnknownUser-rb9pd
      @UnknownUser-rb9pd 22 години тому

      Yes. According to their test a sorbothane insole would be useless yet it is amongst the most effective at absorbing shocks. It just has very little rebound energy.

    They were formerly fully leather lined. I had a pair when I was younger (I am nearly 60). I wore those shoes nearly daily for almost a decade, and finally wore a hole through the sole. I didn't know enough to have them resoled and threw them away, to my regret now. I have no doubt that if those shoes had been resoled, I would still be wearing them. When the soles wore through, the uppers had a good patina on them that could easily be maintained. Bummer.
    I would pay 350+ for a pair of shoes made like that. I loved that pair of shoes.

      You actually can’t resole a doc Marten in the traditional way. Cause they heat seal it to the welt it makes it impossible unless you’ve got the right equipment. I refused to carry them when they moved production to east Asia because it was so cheaply made. My rule is this, I’m not selling anything I can’t resole, however if you want it badly enough I’ll order it. If I get enough demand for Docs or Solovair ( HH Grig company who originally made Doc Martens for years ) I might invest in the equipment to do resole work. Remember I like what I do but I’ve still gotta make money. Right now the stitchdown and GY welt boots are your bread and butter if you repair shoes

    this is just a reminder that we should be very grateful for weston and what hes done here with rose anvil. These are alright, but for $260 everyone here would much rather pickup the thursday challenger, a drews boot, a jim green. IE something with a leather midsole construction and value for more than a years wear.

    • @matthewcaughey8898
      @matthewcaughey8898 День тому

      JG doesn’t use a leather midsole typically unless your custom ordering. They use a polywoven unit that does mimic most of the better parts of leather, it just helps them control costs. The only one that uses leather as standard is special collaborations like the African Trooper, or the range topping Numzam boot. That being said JG will custom make you anything in their range with anything they offer in terms of parts. You just have to wait till they start doing custom orders again

    As a server in the 80's who had to navigate wooden stairs with huge banquet trays filled with porcelain, I asked what shoes I should buy.
    Doc Martens of course. Had to buy a men's pair, but OMGOODNESS! THE BEATING THEY TOOK WAS AMAZING....and I had the for a decade. I could polish them up, but the wear was still noticeable. I threw them out when the 3 eyelets popped out. (4 eyelet). HAD I KNOWN I could have shipped them for repair, I would have done so.
    I will save for another pair made as well as 40+ years ago.
    I bought another pair after the co. sold off and the air pocket busted on a sharp rock. Sad.

    Wollaston is "Wool in stund" The reason why the "new" boots aren't the same is the death toll in the shoe trade in Northamptonshire. Cancer among workers was common and every family lost someone too it. When think back to 1978/9 3 children in my school lost a parent before they reach 11 years old. It was a small village school with about 70 kids. More are still living with the long term effects. There wasnt much health and safety back then. Now take it from me, they dont cost any where close to $250 to make. Its the tax on them. In the UK its 20% Vat ( sales tax) In the USA its import taxes and sales tax. Tax free there about £140, its not a bad price for this boot. When they were mass produced you could buy a pair of rejects ( factory seconds) for under £50 in todays money. Its why the punks and school kids use to wear them. Cheapest boot on the market !!!

    So still, no wooden shank, or a better one out of metal, fiberglass, or other materials? I figured out after almost never wearing DMs since 2014, that they do have different soles now, no more only these shitty, semi-transparent rubber thingy, but black, with a yellow heel tip...which does look way odd, if you ask me...really strange.

    Please stop spreading inaccurate information about a true 'Goodyear' welt. It is only defined by the 'Goodyear' welting machine and has nothing to do with how the welt is attached to the sole. DM use the same machine and method as other Northampton brands to attach the welt, some NH brands even cement on the sole at times and all this would still be considered 'Goodyear' due to the fact it is machine welted using the 'Goodyear' welting machine, regardless of how the sole is attached!
