really appreciate what you're doing for the history of pinball, having this all nicely documented in to videos is a godsend for people like me who really enjoy the games but don't know much about their backstory, or even all the rules!
Thanks so much! Honestly it’s for me as well. I would have loved to have this videos to watch when I was interested in playing a new game or wanted to know more.
I honestly never saw any of these back in the day. First I ever even heard of this table was on a pinball collection I got on my Switch. But it quickly became a favorite that I play all the time! Just got an At Games Addams Family table and bought Attack From Mars to play on that as well. Just finished up quite a long session and my arms are killing me! Totally worth it!
@@KevinCarrington MM, oddly, never really got a chance to prove it's legs in earnings reports. WMS didn't make that many of them and the game almost immediately sold into private ownership due to the huge premiums it commanded. I got mine around '99 or so, as a distributor trade in, and still paid an at-the-time ridiculous $2000 for it.
Pros of Simplified Layout - Easy to play! Cons of Simplified Layout - Really, _really_ easy to bounce the ball off the center target and send it right through the flippers. Regardless, as someone fairly new to pinball, this one has the BEST presentation out of any I’ve played so far. The second the martians started straightening out the tower of Pisa, I lost it! … As in, I lost the ball because I was laughing so hard, but still.
I’m so bummed this guy isn’t in a place to create more of these more often. These are my FAVORITE pin vids and, if more accrue, it’ll become _everyone’s_ favorite. 🤷♂️ S’juss no two ways _about_ it! 🤟
@@KevinCarringtonsometimes you can’t capture the atmosphere of those old days. Nothing lighting up the room except neon beer signs around the machine. It was great
I've got an early AFM model in my collection that's got a few aestethic differences on the playfield: not much, but some inserts have different colors ("Rule the Universe" is orange instead of green), and the insert art of the nations is different (the writing doesn't have a white stroke around all letters, only on the parts over the transparent plastic). The moder ship plastic dome is transparent grey instead of green; the mini saucers are painted silver instead of grey (the mother ship is grey), but I could never confirm if the painting is a factory job or made by the arcade operator that owned the AFM before me. Still, it's a bit strange that he'd paint them for no reason at all - most operators don't care about such details - so I don't rule out that it was an early paint job that Williams tried and then discarded. It's clearly a sample game, 'cause the ROM version it came with was so old it didn't even have the video mode yet!
Amazing video, Kevin! Lots of interesting info in there, including not so well known tidbits. AFM is one of the few machines I once had that I regret selling.
Okay so I've got a neat piece of Trivia for this game, but never found a way to actually confirm it so if anyone's more clued in than me please confirm/correct me! The domed building on the display is actually the Academie Française in Paris. it's often thought to be the US congress but the layout nearly perfectly matches the french building- another clue is the obvious Hausmann-style buildings around it. I have no idea why the artist picked this particular building but my theory is that it was aimed at the booming french market at the time (this was a very common table to find in cafés in France)- and of course one of the cities the martians attack in-game is Paris (by, if we believe this video, trying to destroy the Tokyo TV tower)
Great video, learned alot! Say, could you do a History Of video on World Cup Soccer from 1994? Its my all-time favorite Pinball Machine and i would greatly appriciate it if you did! ❤
In tournament mode the stroke of luck awards are in a set order according to what you've already done. The 50mil is only on the CGC version not the original
It's like Stranger Things, except without the nearly unplayably bad bouncy ball physics. I drank the Stern Pinball koolaid for a while. But I've decided they're just making the games too fast and complicated. Medieval Madness and Attack From Mars were pinball perfection. It's a shame that Strangers Things isn't quite on the same tier just because it's so bouncy and drainy. I also think it's incredibly weak that mechanics such as magnasave and Shield of the Gods (from Medusa) haven't been experimented with. At the moment it seems that pinball as a coin op is on its way out, and will eventually become a home basement hobby exclusively.

Circus Voltaire history would be awesome. You do an impeccable job telling each story.

My favorite pine all machine as kid. I will always have a soft spot for attack from mars.
Also, by far, one of the best earning games of the 90s. This thing just ate quarters.
It’s so beginner friendly anyone can pick it up and have a good time. MM was like that for me

I want to see a History of The Grand Lizard Pinball, with a history of its original backglass included.
My favorite pinball table in the Pinball Arcade app I have on my PS VITA back in the early 2010s. Also love its sequel, Revenge From Mars. 👽🛸
I miss my PSP. Low key might buy it for PlayStation so I can kick back and play on the couch
Vita is still top 3 best handhelds ever made.
It hands down got the most playtime out of any device over ever owned.
Very glad you are coming back!
Thank you so much glad to be back
Attack from Mars and Medieval Madness are my 2 all time favourites :)
Absolute classics. Very complimentary of each other
Definitely two of mine as well. Great rule sets, nice flow, awesome theme and theme integration, and some of the best callouts going! Never gets old!
This is a very good pin. It was one of the last we had at a pizza place I worked at. Very fun addicting gameplay
Those pizza pins just hit different

Great video anyway ;)
