Really nice looking Ripken! That Bonham surprised me, must be a few trying to complete the set! 😂. My favorite was the Bo Jackson highlight card. Thanks for sharing John and keep on rocking!
I enjoy these videos that you put out for us John. I’ve got all of the cards on the list (ungraded) except for the bill bonham and Willie Stargell from 1980 topps. As for the Bonham, one can only imagine either that a rabid PSA 10 set collector really wanted that card, or maybe something nefarious? The Cal Ripken Topps traded rookie is the third most expensive card I’ve ever bought (I actually bought the set unopened many years ago just for the cal, and even though I’m trying to do a Hank Aaron playing days run on the cheaper)I Other than Nolan Ryan rookie & Koufax rookie which I bought and sold many years ago (waah boohoo). Thanks again!
Thanks James! I enjoy doing them. I'm sure the Bonham card has something to do with the PSA registry. I'd never pay that much for a 10 of a common card. I too have the Ripken Traded rookie card as part of the set. I bought my set when it first came out. So you have one of the Bo white letter versions? Might make sense to get that graded (I don't have my two Boggs graded). Could be a nice windfall if you should ever want to sell it. 😃
No problem. Probably 99% of people out there have the normal yellow version. I've heard that people have opened multiple cases of the sets and didn't find any of the white letter versions. So it's still unknown if there were a few sets where all the cards were done that way or if there were individual cards found in some sets that had the white lettering. Either way they are very hard to find. Very lucky I picked my two Boggs ones up years ago as I can only image what someone would want for one today.
Thanks for sharing, John. Comments: Despite his PED usage, still interest in Bonds cards: Surprised about the Bill Bonham card: Maybe due to rarity of PSA 10's: I agree with you regarding Pete Rose card: I wouldn't have graded it a 10 myself due to the back: Maybe a 7 or 8: Bo Jackson deserves to be in the list due to rarity of this card: Not too surprised that Ripken was #1, but no Sandberg or Boggs cards making the top 10.
Yep, Bonds still remains popular, especially his rookie cards. The Bill Bonham is definitely due to the low pop and at least two collectors wanting a copy of the highest graded example of that card. The PSA registry probably has something to do with it as well. The reason why the Sandberg and Boggs rookies don't make the list is that either because of popularity or population of 10s, the Gwynn always sells for more. The highest a Boggs 10 has ever sold for is about $2,800. They currently go for around $1,600. Not high enough to make the top 10. Likewise, the highest a Sandberg 10 ever sold for was $3,800 and currently they go for around $1,100.
I do like the Cal Ripken , 1982 Fleer , Tony Gwynn 1983 1984 Donruss Mattingly nice 1980 Bill Bonham , 1981 Pete Rose 1986 Donruss highlights of Bo!! white version , 1980 Willie Stargell , 1981 Ryan , 1982 Traded Ripken , for 1980 surprised to see Bill Bonham and Willie Stargell , I would have thought Maybe an yount , Mr. October, Molitor , Rickey Henderson , Ozzie Smith that's who I would have thought. for 1980. certainly an interesting list.
Awesome as always, always learn a lot! Thanks for sharing and have a great week!
Thank you!
Great video John. Super information. I was surprised by the Bill Bonham card's value. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Ed! The Bonham was definitely due to the low population in a 10. Most likely a PSA registry buy.

Thanks Doug! Yeah, cards like the Bonham I always shake my head. Amazing what some people will pay for a very low pop high-grade common card. 🤔
