Love this! Not sure if you are still checking comments, but can you do this with columns that have different names? For instance, one client calls it SKU, one calls it "Item Number", but they are the same thing. I'd like to use parameters to rename the columns/etc, using the same report/template for both clients.

Hi, is there any way to have like a master template where a change is automatically processed throughout all the report created with that template?
We have external users who we share the reports with, all users have their own data source and when a change is being made in the report... welp its not scalable...
If you have any solution i'm very happy to hear from you. Thanks.

Hi Avi, I fully agree - one single source of truth !!! What should be the max. size of a model out of your experience? I have reached 200 MB and it´s still working well...

If you have 50 dashboard files created from the same template, in each of those files you create different visuals making them of course, unique, but still no change to the original model that was in the template the dashboards are based on. Then you add a new table and measure to the template. So to keep on model for all that is the same, don't you have to go to each of the 50 reports and also add the table and measure to each of those also or is there some sort of auto cascading effect that I am missing here?

Hi Coopman Greg.Yeah, you DON"T want to do that (Use a Template to create 50 different Models).
Instead you want to maintain 1 model and then publish it to PowerBI.com and then create as many different "Reports" connected to that single model as you want (or give access to other users so they can create their own reports).
See my Power BI Tutorial for more (link below).
Hopefully that helped, else you can also ask me questions in one of my LIVE TalkPowerBI Q&A Show (link below).

Hi Avi, Thanks for wonderful Video. It is always worth value listening to your tutorials .
I am struck at one point while testing the published template App. By Testing, i mean it is at testing phase in Release management. When I try to connect data to the database after filling default database & serverInstance, it shows me “Failed to update model parameters. Please try again later.” However it is working pretty fine when I check it by trying hands on saved template app using PowerBi desktop, it asks database & server instance & it gets connected.
Am i missing something here in the case of Template App on store? I have another doubt related to this error, as, I have not provided user name password to access the data for template App, This error might be due to this problem or something else. If username password is missing how would I add it to the template parameters to make it useful for my clients who have different databases & different access details while the data schema is same for all of them.
Please help me get across the issue, TIA

      Hi Parindsheel Dhillon.
Hmmm...that's a good question. Usually Username/Password is never part of the Template or the File. So the end user would need to provide their own credentials.
If you're still stuck ask me in my next TalkPowerBI. I go live each Friday. Link below.

Dataflow could be an option to reuse different entities on different reports?

i have experienced first hand how just having 4 files has turned into a complete nightmare. I will highly recommend 1 model whenever possible.

Alla you should be able to select the Field (Measure or Column, hopefully a Measure :-)) and select the "Format" as Currency.
