I'd like to see an example where there are many questions and only a few questions are unique to one selection, but the unique question also requires the other questions. Easy examples are just that easy. Is there an advanced video somewhere?
I make Forms all the time and had no idea about branching, going to be using this one!
What happens if we have multiple choice to select?? Can we have branching in that scenario as well??
As far as I know, questions with multiple answers don't support branching based on the chosen answers. Only single answer supports branching based on chosen answers.
This may change in future, but I don't know if something like this is on the roadmap.
Can we achieve the same using Power Apps?
Hmmm. that is an interesting thought. I personally haven't tried to do so, but it might be possible there.
I do think the process to get it configured though would be quite involved, like VERY involved.
Can we automatically delete the option (meeting time) from the list after someone chooses it?
Do you mean that you would like the timeslot to be removed for others if someone else has selected it? If so, this is not possible.
If you are trying to use this as a way for people to book in times to meet you, I would suggest looking at Appointment Schedules in Google Calendar (I have a video on this on my channel) or a device like Calendly.
I have a question. :)
When I add in branching, it seems to hide every question past the branching. I have 60+ questions and every once in a while there is a yes/no question followed up by a “if yes” question. The branching completely cuts off the rest of my form past that point.
So at question five, my first yes/no question comes up. I add branching and then go to preview the form and the other 60 or so questions are gone. If I answer the question, they come back. I would really like for my users to see that it is a 60 question survey, and not a 5 question survey where they get bombarded by 60 more questions once they answer question 5. Is there no way to have everything still show, EXCEPT the “if yes” question?
Until I figure this out, I’m going to ignore branching, as it seems to not work for my inquiry, and just make the question non-mandatory.
Great video though, thanks for the tutorial. Have a good day. :)
That's a really good point about how that might affect the user experience. I've taken a look into it, but unfortunately, I don't know a way to achieve that currently. 😔 Please pass this feedback along to the Forms team using the "Feedback" button that should be in the lower right corner when you are on the Forms homepage. It would be a great addition.
@ Thank you kindly for your reply! I really appreciate it, your tutorial was very easy to follow.
We ended up agreeing to not use branching for that purpose. I just ended up wording the questions in a way that referenced the previous question instead. We figured maybe that it was an option that was disabled because we are using it for the military, so a lot of seemingly random features get blocked in microsoft applications.
Great job, I am not able to add more than 10 branches, any idea?
I personally haven't run into that limitation myself. I also couldn't find any documentation regarding a limit to the number of branches that you can use.
Is it possible that your form may have hit one of the following limits as a result of the branching:
- 100 questions limitation: Microsoft Forms are limited to 100 questions per form. If, when writing, you have more than a hundred questions, you will be required to craft another form or compress your questions.
- Microsoft Forms does not have an update feature for submitted answers or the option to save a form for later.
- There is a 4000 character maximum on text responses.
- There are 2 to 10 options per response for ranking questions. Which means you can only ask 50 questions. If you have a question with 10 options, you’ll only be able to ask 20 questions related to the 100 question limit per form.
- There can only be 60 options stored for choice questions.
- You only have 20 questions when using the Likert scale. This is because the Likert scale counts each statement as one question.
Is it possible to do branching for rating questions?
Yes, you can add branching to a rating type question.
But if what you are hoping to do is say if a user rates 1, go to this question and if the user rates 5, go to this other question, this is not possible. You would instead need to make the question a multiple-choice question with the different options branching to different questions.
It is a bummer how Microsoft Forms doesnt have a conditional logic like if I decide to add a question with multiple answers possible. Theres no if option 1 and option 3 are picked, then do this. It pretty much sees the answers as a whole and you cant individually branch unless you uncheck the multiple answer box.
NOICE!
hm but that is a weak option. does this mean that you cannot do a more complex conditional setup: in zoho and surveymonkey I can make a question only appear when a number of conditions are fulfilled in previous questions. EG I might want to have a question only for men of a specific age from a specific city; this means the question only should show for specific answers on 3 other questions. seems to me that that is not possible in Forms, right?
I can't think of any way to make Forms do something like that. Great question though.
If you need that sort of granulatity and complexity with your branching logic, a dedicated tool like SurveyMonkey is going to be better in most cases. Even if you could configure that sort of control in Forms, you would likely hit against the limits on branching that Forms has regarding volume of branches etc.
@@paulomalley Hi yeah I work professionally with Zoho software which allows all that. I was just wondering for a certain client who wants to have an inhouse solution whether I could set this up via Office Forms or Google Forms but both have this very basic and limited branching option.
Surveymonkey is also good but too expensive compared to Zoho for what it offers imho. but it is maybe also just a question of taste.
Finally! Thanks for the solution
My absolute pleasure. Glad I was able to help. :D
thank you
