Bibically you are in the desert right now, the prodigal son going home but please do not confuse TRUTH with Christianity, not that it isnt there, of course it is, TRUTH, GOD, IS EVERYWHERE

Continuous self-improvement has been one of my guiding stars since my mom passed away several years ago.
After her passing, I have taken on a kind of training regimen worthy of “special forces”. I earned my law degree, got my body in shape; try to read something everyday, meditate at least 10 minutes, and seek out knowledge in different skills (cooking, land navigation, emotional intelligence, etc)

Kindred spirit here. It was my father's untimely passing 27 years ago, followed by my wife's miscarried pregnancy that led me to "forget" all of the principles of self-improvement championed by stoicism. You must be one darn fine attorney. Good for you for taking on the training regimen.

@@stoicbond Arising early in the silence of the morning. That is something that I've done for most of my life. In order to see my father before he left for work I would get up before the sun rose (as he did for his employment) just to say good morning to him. He taught me about work ethic, leading by example.
Fast forward to my last teenage years, and the US Navy made sure that I was up early every day - if you weren't on time for the first part of the day, there was extra duty involved. That's perhaps the only time in my life that sanctions as a motivator actually worked.
There are many more examples of reasons to arise early - post Navy, undergrad, graduate school, early days of married life, first few years of parenthood.
But there were many stops on the journey where early rising was avoided and/or resisted.
Coincidence or not, your page that has been around since 2018 presented itself to me a short while ago. A short while before that, I returned to the daily early rising. Being up and at 'em when the house and neighborhood is largely silent gives me time to reflect - what did I do yesterday? was what I did useful? Is there something that I could have done differently? how were my actions contributing to the betterment of me? did my thoughts and actions contribute anything to my family, friends, or community?
That 10 to 15 minutes of self-reflection, for me, is key to a clearer mind; and if the mind is uncluttered, then more good can emerge.
Thank you for this page, your videos, and your interest and encouragement. Stay well.

Lesson #1...external pressures and the loss of our second child (miscarriage) resulted in a descent into the depths of regrets and recriminations. And I knew better, but did nothing to dissuade myself from the constant over-analysis of past events. Being firmly implanted in the daily exercise of "if only I had done x or y then z wouldn't have happened", I found odd comfort. But when the daily became hourly, the hourly turned into minute by minute. Thank you for the timely review of this vital and necessary teaching. These are very enjoyable and well presented.

      Hello @wcocegw,
I am deeply touched by your openness in sharing such a personal and challenging experience. It takes a lot of courage to reflect on painful past events, and I am humbled that the lessons discussed in the video could provide some timely insights for you. Thank you immensely for being a part of this community and for your kind words about the presentation of the content.
The cycle of 'what if' can indeed be a torturous one, and Stoicism teaches us to focus on the present moment and the aspects of life we can control, rather than being ensnared by the past. I'm heartened to hear that you found some value in revisiting this teaching through the video.
Your journey and reflective nature are inspiring, and it's interactions like these that foster a deeper understanding and communal exploration of Stoic teachings. I'm curious, has engaging with Stoic philosophy aided you in navigating through the emotional turbulence associated with such life-altering events? Your shared experiences could greatly benefit others facing similar adversities.
Thank you once again for watching, subscribing, and contributing to the discussion in such a meaningful way. Your presence in this community is highly valued, and I look forward to hearing more from you.

@@stoicbond You're welcome. It's time for the mutual admiration society to be in session. Stoicism is something that I've studied for decades; first when at sea serving in the US Navy (12 on 12 off work schedule and you can only exercise so much), then as an undergrad in a couple of philosophy classes; then in graduate school. Our class that was to plow through to "modern" philosophers never made it past the pre-Socratics. Wonderfully knowledgeable instructor - actually had a student in the group from Greece - she translated words for us from Coppleston's weighty book...anyway, I digress.
Just because you study something doesn't mean that you can put it into practice. My life and career have been filled with interesting opportunities, experiences, tragedies, successes, etc. just like everyone.
My father's death had a profound impact on me. Being the sole male in the known family line I felt a tremendous responsibility. So, Stoicism, as I understood it then, kept me focused. The principles were put into play until the loss of what would have been our second child.
Fast forward to the NOW (because people must be bored by now, right?). The pandemic had a profound effect on me (and all of us?). It gave me pause and provided me an opportunity to really consider the principles of im-permanance as taught by the Buddhists, but also the Stoics. And with a grandfather passing at 57 and dad passing at 60, I'm getting closer to what in my mind is borrowed time (when if fact it's all borrowed).
It started with exercise and better diet. And that has continued. It allows me to arise early and watch your vids and learn more intellectually; and then the pandemic urgency spurned me into action.
More to come. Happy to contribute to the conversation. Stay well.

@@stoicbond I’ve always worked alone, for around 24 years. Up until 3 years ago I had a business which relied on clients… reward for people pleasing. Now I truly work alone, just myself and the machines. Through time I began to understand how weak I’d been all my life, relying on feedback to keep me happy. It's the emotional recollection that will mentally torture you for a very long time. It will literally effect, in some way, every aspect of your life even some 30 plus years. Hi @dutchhuette, thank you so much for your support and for subscribing! I'm glad to hear you found value in the content, especially to the extent of wanting to share it with your loved ones-that's truly heartwarming. Here’s the text excerpt from the chapter on Continuous Self-Improvement:
"Stoicism, at its core, is a philosophy of personal betterment. While the Stoics acknowledged the external forces and challenges of life, they firmly believed in the individual's capacity to grow, adapt, and refine themselves irrespective of external circumstances.
Seneca once remarked, "As long as you live, keep learning how to live." This statement underscores a lifelong commitment to self-improvement. It's not a race with a finish line but an enduring journey where the path itself is the destination.
Reflect upon the nature of a piece of iron. Left to the elements, it rusts and corrodes. But when subjected to the consistent hammering and heat of a forge, it transforms into a sharp, resilient blade. Similarly, our minds and characters, when left unattended, can stagnate and degrade. But with conscious effort, discipline, and the fire of self-improvement, we can shape ourselves into better versions, honed and resilient.
Practically, this Stoic tenet can manifest in various ways. It could be the continuous acquisition of knowledge, not just from books but from life experiences and interactions. It might involve seeking feedback, even when it's tough to hear, and using it as a tool for growth. Or it could be about setting aside our egos, acknowledging our flaws, and actively working towards rectifying them.
In a world teeming with distractions, where instant gratification often takes precedence over lasting growth, the Stoic emphasis on continuous self-improvement is a beacon. It's a call to rise above mediocrity, to challenge oneself, and to embark on a journey where every step, every challenge faced, and every hurdle overcome contributes to a richer, wiser, and more refined self."

Uhmm there seems to be no one of color with reason in this script.
No philosophy from any other cultures.
    Probably will stop watching.

Everyone in this video is a statue and the content is teachings from Stoic philosophers. Stoicism is the point, what culture are you expecting to see?
