    Great place for a break, Jon! I appreciate going through and making guesses at how the machinery functions, and then learning what's ACTUALLY going on, and getting some expert opinions on what's OK and what needs replacing. Much more interesting than just throwing dollars and parts at it!

    More great stuff!
    Just as a suggested precaution for the future: when I'm connecting a battery to old stuff with janky wiring (as in this case), I'd always loosely 'secure' the earth/ground cable terminal clamp with a vise-grips or similar, and NOT tighten the clamp bolt.
    This gives me a quick-disconnect if/when the smoke and fire starts escaping.
    There's nothing quite like flailing around with a wrench or a pliers while the wiring loom is converting itself into an incendiary device :-)

    Jon, good for you, I have watched quite a few of this or similar pumps like it, torn down and then they are sent of to a pump specialist, like ADS, so it’s really great that they are working with you. I have watched a few of there repairs and those guys are awesome, very knowledgeable and a great representation of there business. Can’t wait for part 2. I’m watching this at 0410 hrs in Australia, now mate that’s how much I like your vlogs

    • @Hyratel
      @Hyratel 5 місяців тому +6

      ADS seem like a very Stand Up Straight sort of folks, and what they do is extremely specialised, yet in moderately high demand, so if they can spend 30 minutes on the phone and mail out a kit of parts to FC101 instead of investing 10 manhours of work into the pump themselves, they get the good PR of being helpful, John gets an interesting video out of it, and Matt Diesel Creek gets to be good-naturedly ribbed for John figuring out how to pop that ball fitting loose without shattering it

    The lever on the left side of the dash is the reverser, if you're smart and it works put it in forward and never touch it again and just use reverse on the transmission. They are notorious for giving trouble. They are a PITA to work on and very expensive to repair. Farmer John in Ga. is a wealth of knowledge on those things and has a ton of parts both new and used for them. You will need them.

    Great video as always, Jon. I would not crank it without at least cracking open the oil drain plug and seeing what comes out of there. When the oil level is too high, there's always a risk that the crankcase is full of water or coolant with oil floating on top. Not the best thing to run trough the bearings.

  • @godmodeforever
    @godmodeforever 5 місяців тому +7

    At 7:50 the lever on the dash is a shuttle shift to go from forward to reverse in any gear without the clutch. I have a 1010 crawler , just hope you never have to replace the cylinder liners. This tractor was the worst design ever. May the force be with you. Check your timing by moving the flap on the bellhousing by loosening the round head screw and sliding the metal flap up out of the way.

I would love to see you make a video about your background and how you learned all this other than, "Well, I just mess around with it!" I am pretty sure a "John's mini-bio" would be a hit! There was that rock-climbing reference (from a lift video), your ability to explain things well and other clues are tantalizing! I am thinking that you were a teacher who at one point who did some climbing as well as caving. What seems to be Blue Water static rope made an appearance more than once.
