  • AfterShokz's bone conduction headphones are an increasingly popular option for runners, with the open ear design meaning that you can stay aware of the world around you while running. They're also the only headphones allowed in many races as a result.
The AfterShokz OpenMove are the latest bone conduction headphones from the brand, offering the same technology at a significantly lower price than the Aeropex. In addition, they've been updated to include new sound equalizer options and now charge using USB-C.
Here, we run through the OpenMove to find out if they're worth investing in.

Thank you. I bought a cheap pair of bone conduction headphones just to try out the technology and found pretty much what you described. I’m considering the Openmode Aftershokz as an upgrade. One funny thing I noticed is that the bone conduction headphones are the only ones that allow me to listen to something while brushing my teeth. 😂

But the big question here is what big tracks are you lining up for toothbrush time?

I own a titanium and after a while, the left speaker started producing extra rattling sounds when playing anything of medium volume or higher. I replaced it using the warranty but the buzzing came back after 2 months. I can only conclude that it is an inherent flaw in the manufacturing and or design. Does this issue appear in your Openmove unit? If there isn't a problem I am so ready to make the jump.

I have the Aeropex (got them on special offer) and find them more "muffled" than my previous Trekz Air headphones but the battery life is better. The Trekz Air started to hurt my ears after wearing them for over an hour.
The problem I have with the "hear through" type of earphones is that the style of earbud doesn't work with my ears eg Jabra Elite 75t

A lot of people find the in-ear fit and stay put an issue. AfterShokz is a way round that.

The OpenMove kinda hurt my ears on long runs, but the tech is cool and I got the Aeropex now which fit my eary better. They are especially good for listening to voices, i.e., podcast and turn by turn navigation. Music quality is fine but not stellar. It's good to hear cars and biciyles behind you, especially now that it get's darker outside.

Using for turn by turn is great when you're out on the trails.

Other than situational awareness or race rules, I only sought these headphones to avoid getting ear infections from in-ear earbuds. They perform for my music needs while jogging

the titanium is a dismissed product and has huge sale. It worth to buy the cheaper titanium than the openmove? the sound is it better in the latter one?

Hi Josephine, thanks very much. They're not as comfortable as the much lighter Aeropex. It's not a huge difference but there is a difference nevertheless. If we had the budget, we'd go Aeropex.

The Move hurts my ears after a couple of hours... My run/aeropex hasn't caused comfort issues... The angled ear-hook designs have all been uncomfortable..

I just ordered a pair of openmove and now I’m kind of worry they are not “waterproof” since I sweat a lot 😅 I used to have a pair of beats 3 and they died abruptly (I think was because the sweat situation) , hope I won’t have any problem with them.
