Easy solution to fix a charging error 1 on Roomba 685 - SOLVED!

- When I got the Roomba 685, right out of the box....it was spitting out "Charging Error 1", which means the charging station cannot talk to the internal battery. Watch video for the verified solution.
Two constructive comments: (1): If cleaning doesn't work, try putting a small piece of foam between the battery and battery door. The pressure can help make better contact (worked for me when nothing else would). (2): To easily get the small exterior brush out of the way, simply remove it with a screwdriver and re-attach it when you're done.
I think you just saved my sanity. Before I read this, I had to remove the faceplate and clean the battery contacts every. single. time. the roomba returned to the dock or I got the dreaded “charging error one.”
I was losing my mind that it stopped charging especially after I had just purchased a new battery! Grrr..Then Cleaned all 3 pairs of contacts, (battery, the housing, and the charger)
Voila! my 5 year old Roomba is back on job.Thank you!!!

Thank you, just as I suspected - Contact issue! Their local service asked me to bring it to them for checking at $150... told them FO. it is part of the design fault that the weigh of heavy battery would pull down and loosen the contact points, esp after the battery cover was opened/closed.

Very easy to assemble Recommened, and only attachments I've used so far work well, and are easy to use. Doing a good job on the new carpet in my bedrooms and stairs. Works well on the hardwood on my main floor too. Reasonable weight and cord length. I already knew from an earlier review that it wouldn't fit under furniture, but I can use my Eufy for that, so no problem - the high traffic areas that need a stronger suction was really what I bought this for. If it continues as it's started, it will be a good buy and well worth the money. I have had two Shark Rocket stick vacs in the past that are super easy to use, but the motors just don't last well, even with scrupulous cleaning of the filters. I'm hoping for better with this Bissell.
Take the brush off first and also clean the stainless steel contacts that are attached to the roomba, the ones that actually charge the battery. They were what was dirty on my roomba.
just tried this as same problem straight out of the box with brand new roomba 671. fingers crossed!

Ckeaning worked for me. Unit had been saying "unable to connect (to wifi /unit)" I thought there was a problem with wifi. Battery was very dead. Cleaned contacts with alcohol swab. Back in business.

one thing you can do instead of bending the corner brush, is unscrew it and take it out (theres a screw on the yellow part of the brush that you unscrew, then pull firmly and it'll come off) then put it back on after you put the bottom plate back on!

I have watched your video as well as other ones, but my problem is: once the 4 screws and the front brush have been removed, it looks like the plate is still attached by something that I can't see, and I can't remove it. Any idea?

If you ordered yours from Amazon; I was having this error, and when I pulled the battery out, someone had put a plastic baggy between the battery and the connections, for whatever reason! Beware that may be what's preventing the battery from charging if you also ordered yours used from amazon...
And you should make sure that you heard a sound when you put the battery
Why in the world aren't these charged wirelessly? I have in issue with mine basically every time. Even when i set it on to charge and it's charging and repositions so that it can't continue to charge

Hello. When you turn on the device, it takes a little step and then stops, and a red triangle appears
What does the light look like when fully charged? Mine is showing the little battery light as a green outline. Is it suppose to be all green?
It just looks like an outline. It will be green when it’s charging and charged. It will be orange or red when low or dead. Hope that helps.
my robot have rusty stains at the bottom recharge paltes, how to clear those rusty spots ?

The trick about the battery is there is no trick. That’s when you call customer service and complain your ass off. That warranty is done

It's better to use something very abrasive to clean those. It's just a conductor.
