    Oscar's enthusiasm for these models helps me recapture how I felt about them myself as a boy growing up in the late 60s and 70s. His soothing voice and relaxed approach make this a nice channel to visit and an escape from the perils of modern DCC locos and the current modelling scene.

      Definitely renewed my interest in DC layouts. I was considering defecting and going to DCC, even considered converting my old HST 125. Glad I left it as DC now. :)

    I have fond memories of this locomotive. My Mum and I found one (the earlier glossy finish one) in a junk shop near to where I live, so we bought it. When we got it home I discovered that it had a built in smoke generator, and it ran perfectly. Sometime later it was damaged by a friend and a piece of the cab roof was broken off and one of the steps up to the cab too, but a few days ago I rebuilt it and repaired the damage and remedied the weakness that causes that crack. It's a nice reminder of my Mum, who sadly died in 2012.

      Good morning Joshua great to hear you still have your original model, maintaining them is all part of the fun of owning these items especially if you have that long history with them. Sadly I have none of my original models from childhood but the replacements do feel that bit more important as there are many memories connected with them.
      Thanks again take care.

    Hello Oscar my B12 has a crack under the footplate as well. Mine was bought on eBay for 27 pound's and it didn't work at first and it kept shorting out my layout. So I took it apart and inside was a Hornby coupling hook. The curse of the hook.

      Hi Oscar. The numbering of Hornby wagons in the catalogue in the period 1972-82 can be confusing. In 1976 the range went fully over to 'silver seal's (so R114 became R215 for example) and the numbers for several wagons changed. In 1980 several wagons gained paint finish and changed number again. Strangely the Bolsover wagon has 3 varients: no paint finish, self coloured with grey paint inside and black plastic with paint finish outside ( my favourite version) - they are all numbered R136.

    • @TRTX-em8kl
      @TRTX-em8kl 4 роки тому

      I should add there were even more colour varients to the Bolsover wagon in train sets during the 1980s - there was a turquoise one.

    Great video as always. Keep up the good work. I had to rise the track level at the station as my B12 was dragging along and cliiping the edge of the platform due to the long over hang at the front..Oh hum....

    • @oscarpaisley

      Good morning Howie, Yes that overhang is a bit of a problem she does just clip the platform when she comes through the crossover next to the station!. I’ve shown it in a couple of the earlier videos with the B12 and my station platform isn’t as close to the track as it could be.

    Great video and a lovely locomotive a smooth runner as well I got kneller hall a while back perfect condition just needed a service and a recharge of the magnet and it was perfect .
    Wondering if you did the same with the B12

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  4 роки тому

      Hi Darren, your right they do need a little care and attention before running especially if they have been stored over a long period of time. Re-magnetising is worthwhile if its an option, some magnets hold there magnetism better than others. I had also Re magnetised the magnet between the wheels to see if its pulling power could be improved, however the magnet was already showed a very strong reading when checked and there was no discernible improvement in the reading or the pulling power from the magnadhesion after the Re-mag. I think the reduction in pulling power in these later models fitted with magnadhesion is down to a combination of the finer scale plated tyers on the wheels and the change in the back to back measurements creeping in at this time.

    The designers were jolly clever folk, that chassis extension you mentioned is a common part with the L1, the large hole accommodates the socket for the Seuthe smoke unit. I'm not sure if the crack on a later model would be shirnkage of the moulding or just overtightening a countersunk screw. Another great video, thank you.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Andrew, great to hear you enjoyed the video. I think you probably right over tightening may be the most probable cause for the cracks in the these models, I wonder if a few may have left the factory this way!

    Good Morning Oscar,
    I really enjoy your videos and the way that you present them, absolutely first class!.I was once the proud owner of a vast Tri-ang Hornby collection which was sadly broken up many years ago, However I recently came across some remnants of it and there was some interesting items amongst it, including some wagons that were made at Margate for the Australian market in the late 1970's i.e. C&A 5 and 7 plank open wagons, Millers open wagon, Peter's Milk tank wagon and two Brake Vans in Victoria Railways and New South Wales livery's. I was wondering wether or not you have these items, please let me know, as if not I would like you to have them to make a future video about them. I look forward to your reply, all the best for now, Bob.

      Hi Bob, I had quite a collection of Tri-ang Hornby as a child that had been past down to me form another family member who had grown out of it as they say! Sadly I in turn grew out of it! along with the more contemporary items from Hornby in the late 70s early 80s I had been given for birthdays and Christmas. As theres thing do they all vanished over the years, I think this is a familiar story many as they grow up through there teen's into adulthood. The models you mention sound very interesting and would indeed make for an interesting video.

    So, if this loco is from 1978 and it has magnadhesion, when did Hornby stop making steel track? At that date you are around ten years into System 6 track, but all the System 6 track I have seen has been nickel silver.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  4 роки тому

      Good morning Roger, Pat Hammond's book indicates that nickel silver track had been available along side steel track as early as 1973 and marketed as part of the Silver Seal branding, the silver seal branding was dropped in 75 but both nickel and steel track seems to have been sold side by side until about 1994 when the book indicates that most steel track item were dropped in favour on nickel only. I wonder if the nickel track was a much more expensive product?
