I downloaded this a while ago but never opened it because I just didn’t have high hopes for a free game. I just believed it would be a lot of micro transactions and void of anything else in between. I’m so happy to see it got such a review from Mark’s clearly AMAZING daughter. My kids and I have bonded through gaming… my oldest and I saved for our DS’s together and have played Zelda and Pokemon together ever since. My parents HATED gaming and I’m so glad it’s seen as quality time with kids and a fun and healthy hobby to involve them with. ❤
I started playing games in 1079 at the age of 12. I'm really glad, I learned to read, be outside in nature, travel with the boy scouts, built stuff with construction toys, learn swimming and diving, cycle wherever I wanted to etc., so I didn't fuck up my brain with the "healthy hobby" of gaming. There are enough scientific studies about the topic. It's also one of the reason, why I refuse dumbphones.
We're lucky to have your daughter on the SwitchUp team! I also needed a reminder to try this game after originally downloading it when it was released.
So glad you made this review. I adore this game, played it daily since close beta, even love it on the switch. I feel so incredibly spoiled to be able to play this game, in bed, with my favourite mug of chocolate. Yes it's a bit laggy here and there but it hasn't been a nuisance to the point it has become unplayable. Having the option to play this on pc and switch and hopefully soon on steamdeck is a bonus in my eyes. Even now, there are still things I keep discovering and I haven't been bored. The graphics are my favourite, watching the sunsets in this game are quite something, farming, love crafting furnitures, the list goes on.
I been playing this and loving it on laptop. I normally like my survival with mobs and fights, but this game took my breath away and I'm just in love and addicted lol. It's relaxing and so cosy and the community is great. When I found it to be in Switch I actually got excited and downloading as I speak. And to think this game is completely free but I'm honest i brought something as this is game I don't mind supporting devs.
I love Palia! It’s like a cozy 3D Stardew with the exploration and aesthetic of BotW! Amazing that it’s free. And I think the level design is amazing, just lacking the clarity. But the windmills still move smoother than Pokémon Violet! I just wish there was a single player mode for smoother performance but like you said, it’s nice having other randoms fishing with you! I really love this one! I wish there was a way to earn those skins without paying actual money though. In my opinion that would make the game completely free.
Nothing is ever free friend, someone has to pay for it at some stage, people can't work for free either and the devs have to be paid! If paid skins are how they earn their bill paying money while providing a really cool game for free? I can handle that!
Also will add, I’m excited to try this out on a gaming handheld PC when I get one because on Switch this feels more like a representation of Palia, rather than Palia itself. Getting kinda tired of games like that.
I downloaded Palia but it required an additional account and I tend to find that unappealing however if that works for others and it means they get to have a great time, then, all the better. Thank you Mark and thanks to your daughter for her hard work and great contributions to the channel over the years.
Sorry perhaps I should've been more specific on the account. I didn't have to make one to play exactly but there were certain things that would be locked out if I didn't make one. However at this moment I don't recall what they all are but I remember something about my save game, possibly unable to save my progress or access it elsewhere. Perhaps its a region thing, I'm not certain, but if others haven't encountered this then I'm glad they or their kids don't miss out.
@@followerofchrist198 If you're playing on PC you have to make a Palia account with whatever email you would like to use for logging in. Nintendo Switch should just let you use whatever Nintendo account you have attached to your profile. If you're coming from PC to Switch you can login with your PC account when you first start the game using the link account option, don't skip that since it's your one and only shot. That'll allow cross progression so you can jump between Switch and PC while playing the same account. I'm not sure how going from Switch to PC would work for account linking though, but might be something their support staff could do. Only other info I know is a Steam release is in the works, but no info on if it'll just use your Steam credentials, or require the standard separate account creation.
I tried Palia when it was still in closed beta on the PC. The story will keep you going if you're interested in that. There were beasts, resources that need co-op to successfully gather but there are also resources that players race to and monopolize just like in old mmo's. The food has minigames in order to cook well but they arent that challenging and might feel tedious after a while. House designing and the main story/character stories are the main selling point of the game. It's not something that pressures you to form a schedule like seasonal crops in Stardew Valley. It's a good game that you can just pick up whenever and drop whenever.
My Wife and I have been playing this game obsessively for a couple weeks now (on PC). Gotta say, we're having an absolute blast! Personally, I like the pacing of the game and how it makes you wait for certain items that come out of your lumber mill, forge, seed hopper, etc... and of course you can upgrade those things to pump out your items faster. It's also really cool to cook meals together, where one of us is at the prep and mixing tables, while the other is at the stove flipping things over so they don't burn. I can't wait to see where the devs take this game in the future! It has a TON of promise and is incredibly fun to play.
Always sort of gave most farming games a wide berth, as you said they were pumping out so many a while back. But on good merit from your daughter and you Mark of course 🤣 I may have a look at this one, thank you Marks daughter! ❤
I wish the art style and character creator was more inspired. It feels almost like those fake games that kids play in movies. Sorta generic and lacking a strong identity.
I’ve been obsessed with Palia since it went into open beta so I appreciate seeing some coverage on it! I think your assessment is very fair and some of the problems you addressed aren’t as prevalent on the PC version if someone has that option. It’s a really great game in my opinion that does have its faults but I hope it continues to thrive! Thanks! 🤗
I have just started playing a game called "3000th duel" and looks like a quite above average metroidvania type-thingy kind of game. I don't recall seeing you guys ever talking about it, so maybe you could take a look. It is still on offer for another day. I really liked what I have played so far...

I'm enjoying it quite a bit. However there are some... quirks. Like sometimes there's some weird glitches such as t-posing, the a button sometimes not working in game, the time the day before yesterday I randomly got stuck on a cliff and saw the inside of my character's head 😂
I just downloaded this game earlier today out of pure curiosity after and I'm looking forward to trying this out after doing a little research and watching this video.

I think there is one main question when you want to rate value in "free" game and time aspect is only a part of it. The question is: whould you rather pay (even full AAA price) for this game once and have normal experience or leave it as it is? If you chose to pay for normally free game it means the value of "free" is zero

The only in-game purchases are cosmedic which you do not have to buy. These skins help support the game & devs but are not pushed on players in anyway.
Animal Crossing has "time traveling", yeah yeah, not an "intended mechanic", but it exists. Most time based mechanics get "worked around" and it isn't the kind of franchise that is constantly played all day long or for 6 hours straight (I don't know how long other people have to play games daily, but I have a fair amount of spare time on my hands, 8 hours between multiple games in a day isn't a stretch for example; no I don't actually play Animal Crossing for very long, hell not even every day, I just check in when I have the time, it's not a "live service"). Due to the mechanics in this game, I'd wager you should be able to play for longer. No, seriously, if you are going to spend money on "time", just go play a Gacha, it's the same diff, you are basically spending money to alleviate the amount of time it requires you to get a character, and at that point just become a whale you F2P cow (it doesn't help that it also has a mobile game style shop for cosmetics, so yes, it is double-dipping). This is why I stay away from games that like to monetize my "time", I have better things to be spending it on.
I play Zelda breath of the wild I mostly fish hunt and cook food just to sell it I got lots of money and no use for it lol can’t buy weapons n stuff like that but can buy arrows that are very pricey lol but anyway sounds like this game will be more my style as I like to get stuff just to sell it lol 😂
One, it's dead free, and two, the online gameplay is NEEDED. For example, there is a kind of magical tree in the game, and you can only chop one down if you have at least one other real person chopping at the same time. It's very nice and cooperative as a result. Plus there is a constant chat where you can request needed items and make donations to help others. Also the others players running around the village really flesh out things and make it feel lived in. The online mode is very passive compared to other games in most ways.
I found out that for me, docked with internet/hardwired runs a lot better. Made a huge difference. Even on the lite, I just have an adapter (ethernet to usb).
Never of it but honestly, there are so many good games that are fuller and more rounded that I want to/ am playing that I don’t have time for ‘free’ games. It’s not a genre I play, apart from the lightweight game play, you probably find there’s paid for sections further down the line that you need to purchase in order to complete the game
Thanks to my daughter 💕 You're awesome you helped a ton. Mark

Can you play this offline?
Can we get the division or ghost recon on here haha be fire!!
Bobs your uncle and Fans your aunt 😂
Thanks for the review, it's so awesome you get your kiddo involved! 🥰
I was going to play this but i had trouble making a name lol
Hey since this game is free.. I'll give em a try..
Tempted to play this on steam deck 🤔
I have it runs really well.
If only they allow offline gameplay..i would definitely buy this..
I thought about trying this but I know myself and I'd get bored about 5 hours in 😅
How is it now? Still stuttering?
I found out that for me, docked with internet/hardwired runs a lot better. Made a huge difference.
Even on the lite, I just have an adapter (ethernet to usb).
I want to like it. But my goodness it runs terribly.
i find i lot of reviews about how hard this game is. I wonder why
Holy framerate Batman!
2:55 LMFAO
I downloaded it last week, didnt play....looks like firtnite without shooting and being stuck in the firest😂
For the first time, my Switch overheated while playing Palia. Had to delete the game, sadly.
Free is for me!!!
Im not a farming sim connoisseur but I think you could do alot worse while paying alot more. Nothing beats free.
