Bungie have made so many updates, patches, fixes and changes over the years to Destiny 2 transforming it almost into a completely different game from the vanilla version that came out as the sequel to Destiny 1. We'll be breaking down a tonne of footage I've saved going over the loot system, crucible, perks, exotics, abilities as well as all the launch events on the first roadmap such as trials of the nine, iron banner, leviathan raid, faction rallies, xur exotics, vendors and much more! Every time he showed a vaulted crucible map, it struck some nostalgia heart strings. I completely forgot about some of them and then seeing them again is so sad knowing we can’t play them now even though I want to so badly.

I will always remember when Destiny 2 first came out. My step dad was an contractor electrician so he was away from home a lot. I remember him coming home one day with a Destiny 2 edition of a PS4 and whenever he was out of town, me and him would meet up in D2 and role with each other for awhile doing strikes and playing crucible. We joined and left a few clans and we ended up starting a clan. Eventually, around the time of Shadowkeep, we stopped playing and moved on to other games, but vanilla Destiny 2 will always have a place in my heart.

Truthfully, I thought the campaign missions for the Red War were done very well. It was super cool having some missions requiring us to use various vehicles. I also enjoyed ending up on the Almighty and the showdown with Ghaul. There was a lot wrong with year 1, but those story missions were pretty good.
I agree, loved the campaign for the most part. Kinda wish the Ghaul fight was done better, but that entire mission was beautiful
You could tell they really tried with the story in D2 Since that was a big complain in D1
It was an amazing and epic way to come into a game. Yea it was tedious to go through it again if you wanted to make a second or third character but I personally enjoyed it. It made me sad to come back to destiny recently and find out almost everything I remember from year 1 is gone, all the planets are gone, all my gear is pointless etc. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE the fact that we have so much more content now because I remember being there, being one of those complaining we had so little content which in turn making me dropping the game after doing all the endgame content besides trials multiple times. They’ve definitely made the game better in certain parts, it just makes me a little sad to see so much gone, but also proud to see how far the game as come
I thought the exact same thing, until I made a second character. I found replaying the story was so tedious. I think the problem was that it was the type of story which is so uninteresting if you know what is going to happen.
@@jonatansexdoer96 I would counter with the fact that ANY story, be it a game, book, movie, etc., is drastically less interesting when you know what is going to happen. Probably has a lot to do with people hating spoilers so much.

Nowadays its a hodgepodge of overkill and gimmicks.
@@FirestormDDash no, those bones did not fit. Everything felt unnatural when getting loot, and loot is basically the biggest pull of this game.
@@callumtaylor-forsey9067 so is combat flow. And the importance of the loot. The loot used to be rare enough that even the small pool was a "grind" to get anything worth holding.
Now a days they give you dozens of variations of random guns so you load up your vault with 500 weapons of "fairly good" rolls that may become better *next season* and if something doesnt kill a boss in 2 seconds its not meta.
Its honestly the opposite of engaging, enjoyable, or rewarding.
@@FirestormDDash there were no god rolls my guy, nothing else needs to be said. Boring as fuck, you get the gun once and never need it again. After 2 months of playing there was nothing to do
@@thesenate6649 i agree to that point, D1 did it better, simply by rarity and harder content per say. D2 launch honestly had the framework but was to casual focused and simply limited content.
Level layout in d2 is something i never grew to accept. Hard content is basicly "lots of npcs in small space".
D1 had way more dynamic engagements. Some small spaces with a flood of npcs, sure. But also huge areas with really powetful range snipers. Or boss areanas where your being hunted and pushed.
D2 has went the opposite in every regard that drew interest for me.
So much loot its all pointless. Unvarying engagements. Faster and faster gunplay.

The only things I miss are the old planets and having an actual campaign. Idk why they removed the old planets, I would’ve liked to go to them just for a change of scenery from time to time.

When you load up a strike on Io or Titan the servers book a slot for your game‚ once you finish it and go back to the tower the slot is gone and replaced.

I played d2 day 1 and hated it and quit the game for a long time after forsaken but after this season started felling the good old day of d1 and its not because vog was there I learned about the later on

@@monadoboy9639 more or less i was upset with what i thought would make D2 better than D1, at the time. I'm now a descendant, flawless, and as of my 67th vog clear i am a fatebreaker. I love the game again, EP was great even when armor 2.0 was out and i wanted the cool shotty :p
I remember preordering the legendary edition and being extremely excited, only to quit after two months because of how dry and bland the whole thing was. I hit max light within 2 weeks, got all the best weapons, and had essentially gotten bored and frustrated with so many of the design options. They dumbed it down to make it easier for new players with the removal of random rolls, and they focused the game on buying cosmetics via eververse. I'm glad they've turned this game around.
Exactly, preordered, got max light, beat the calus raid. Haven’t touched it since now which is the witch queen.
Leviathan actually ended up being my favorite raid because it wasnt just "run-kill boss-run-kill boss". It gave so much more co-opping with your team mates, where everyone had a purpose, instead of what I would call today; "being carried by titans thundercrash", along with friendly "complains" about "why you main hunter? Switch to titan! We do more damage". In leviathan this didnt matter. And that is what made it so awesome! 💕

I liked everything about leviathan except gauntlet, not saying gauntlet was bad, I just had waaaaay too many wipes on that encounter to have ever liked it, but my favorite raid encounters of all time through d1 and d2 have to be dogs from leviathan, and war priest for sure from kings fall, the 2 hugest and most expansive raids ever have to be leviathan and kings fall, leviathan had the underbelly, which was so massive that you could literally go so far away from your team mates that your gamer tag doesn’t even show up anymore, it was so big they fit ANOTHER RAID inside of it, it was so big that if you got left behind in the under belly it was actually faster to just leave and join back than to try to make your way through it, even with the year 1 comically slow load times, and kings fall was also really huge it just had a singular path to take through the raid that had to be followed so it didn’t allow for too much exploration like leviathan did
Leviathan only had a boss at the end. So idk what raid you were playing to run-kill boss, run-kill boss

Yes. It had only one boss. But it also had 3 sections you had to go through which didnt have bosses. And instead of "pipe run" the order of those sections changed each week.

Personally out of all raids I gotta say Crota was my number one. The riad it self was ehhh, but just the raiding culture it made was why it was so good to me

"Graviton lance was pretty bad" That gun two tapped in crucible with no other buff required, it was one of the only guns you ever saw really.
Nah, it never two tapped, but it does have a two-round burst and used to have three before Warmind. It was broken after the buff because it became easier to land the final hit, which had infinite range. A primary weapon having that fast of a TTK was unheard of until Forsaken when Kindled Orchid became a thing.
Coming back after the 30th anniversary and seeing the star horse is insane that the asset was in there even then

@@baconbitz7804 there were at least as many complaints about both of those things.
Crucible was unpleasant without a stack, because it was full of sweaty stacks. Stacking was much worse than now because of how much easier it is to get a team of 4 together, and a team of four communicating was basically unbeatable with the slow movement, and scout laning meta. Feel like you can't have played back then.

Thats because it *was* good, it just wasn't superb. People always think Destiny is never as good as it can be, because we always want more/better from it. Guardians are never content.

fascinating video! I played the PC Beta for D2 after feeling like I had missed out entirely on D1. Played a good bit of year one, bought Curse of Osiris and fell out for a while. Been coming back again and again ever since Shadowkeep. REALLY nostalgic for me!
It's slightly shocking to see how little Bungie learned from D1 when they went over to make D2, I'm so SO glad this was changed in forsaken.

If I remember correctly the reasoning for this is simply when development starts. Since development for D2 started before taken king, by the time they made so many good strides a majority of D2 was already done. Under a contract as well, they couldn't really go back and redo it all.
This is why triple A publishing sucks.

@@nezarecdiscipleofthewitnes3823 D1 isn't bad by any means by it is definitely seen with rose tinted glasses by the community. As much as I love D1, it had it's fair share of problems that people refuse to acknowledge. Then it creates problems because people then chariot for D1 additions to the game like sunsetting when D2 is such a different game. A majority of D2 players have never played D1 so they'll only ever hear the good about something and end up championing for something they know nothing about.
@@shepherdrose1351 D2 also got rebooted, not to the extent of Destiny 1 in 2013 but it did get soft rebooted. It’s why most of the rise of iron stuff was never brought back up in destiny 2 until long into year 1

Ascending the tower in Trials of the Nine was such a cool concept. Now we have a empty and boring platform when you go flawless in Trials of Osiris. I also enjoyed having countdown as a game mode. Everyone now just plays really slow for supers with no penalty.
I searched UA-cam for footage of destiny 2 vanilla gameplay and i saw your video and you gave me exactly everything I was hoping to see. Just seeing how far destiny 2 has come is crazy. Sometimes it’s hard to remember what was part of destiny 1 and the early years of destiny 2 lol just because the game changed completely. I still wish we could change the element to guns. That was so fun and I still have all 3 elements of uriels gift in my vault lol

For me it was the other way around, I only played D2 at launch and stopped before the first mini Expansion came out. Came back post Beyond light. Had all my sunset gear on and was like wtf where do I start. All the changes were so overwhelming but exciting to discover.

@@gregdennert4441 dude there is no content in d2 just repetitive things to do and PVP is in literally a bad state(i am a competitive player) my clan used to be mostly active(like 30 people) everytime but now its just me and my friend, same goes for my friendlist(it used to be like 90 92 may be more people in my friendlist playing this game all time now it is just handful of people). I mean if you are new player or came back to destiny after a long break, then sure d2 is good there is content for you but for us its just boring and Being a PVP player crucible is seriously ruined by Cheaters and cringe no skill load outs, plus since the quickdraw nerf people just keep hold shotties out like they holding their black DIG BICKS in hands, just aping and there is no team balancing, servers are shit. THERE ARE WEAPONS AND SUPERS THAT DOES DMG BEHIND THE FOOKING WALL. So yeah d2 is shit Period.
I never focused that much on the details of story missions, mainly red war and almighty mission (just started playing) until bungie removed them, they were so well done and nice!

I used to play this game a lot back in D1 and year 1 of D2, but I haven’t really played since week 1 of Forsaken. Everything you talked about in this video is basically all that I know D2 for. The way you considered all of these things to be so weird and different is strange to me because those things are what D2 is to me. I would like to get back into the game, but I can’t imagine just how much I would have to do to get caught up on all that I’ve missed.

There's no cohesion whatsoever, just three totally separate campaigns: Forsaken, substantial and pretty good. Shadowkeep, lost sectors electric boogaloo and then.. Beyond Content. Just spam stasis and the bosses keel over with literally no effort from the player's part. It's a complete joke.

If we could have a revitalized red war as a beginning campaign now, that would be so awesome
an entirely new mini campaign that doesn't have you visit every planet like D1 and y1 D2 would be good for new players, and we basically gave this with new light

I would like to take this moment to remind you that new lights currently don't have *any* campaigns; and the only availabe raid is VoG; and way too many good strikes were killed; and eververse shaders cost a fortune now...

The only thing I think you missed was that energy weapons had the element change ability. I think my vault still contains my Arc Requiem and the original Void example.
I somehow have a Void damage Badlands shotgun, and it is *not* getting dismantled.
Some Year 1 ornaments were pretty damn good, Trials of the nine(s2), Iron banner season 2/3, crucible ornaments, some faction rally ones, wish bungie would give those who designed those armor ornaments for future seasons a go again, as they did fantastic job on these ornaments, wish bungie would put armor ornaments in these activities again :/
they will probably never have earnable cosmetics again because eververse. Those sets were really great though, really sucks most of the new armor and armor in general looks like trash
Well, they're starting too. Trials of the nine armor loot can be acquired from the prophecy dungeon. Not the flawless variant tho.

The problem is coming off of destiny 1 year 3 and seeing the massive regression in armor, ornaments is just disappointing, Bungie still hasn’t topped age of triumph ornaments and destiny’s amour design

I still will never forget what they did to my baby Graviton Lance...
Before the Warmind DLC in Y1, Graviton Lance used to be a 3-burst weapon but then they made it 2-burst later on. Yeah it was meta during Warmind, but I was definitely in the minority because I did not like it. This gun was considered trash before Warmind and yet it got me my first We Ran Out of Medals and it got me flawless in Trials of the Nine during Vanilla D2. Plus it sounded better imo. Making it a 2-burst weapon made it feel worse for me and it didn't sound as good to me.
Still, a trip down memory lane when I was still a sophomore and would jump on D2 24/7 when I came back from school lol.

@@flakooo he was talking about Vanilla Destiny 2. Where MIDA multi tool, Uriel's gift, Last Hope, and Better Devils were the meta of D2. In Vanilla, that's when Graviton was a 3-burst. It stayed a 3-burst during Curse of Osiris but then changed during Warmind, where it became meta.
Graviton Lance was dogshit until they made it a 2 burst. You are the minority buddy lol

There was so much things that are different, one thing I miss was that in the first year we still had 2 rocket's in 1 launcher.
Oh god especially since The Wardcliff Coil absolutely killed an entire team of 6 with 2 rockets!

The issue is how poorly these issues effected everything else in the game as well. Guns were too boring. Especially when Destiny players were notorious for the lengths they would go for loot. I don't know how anyone at Bungie saw the need to remove weapon rng. However I do agree the gun play wasn't terrible. Had year one had random rolls or at least more perks on weapons I feel like it would have been received decently well pvp wise. I'm honestly a little sick of special ammo myself at the moment. I feel like gaining two potentially one shots from dying while also being able to get a ton of ammo off a single brick thanks to scavenger mods is way too rewarding. I also feel like double primary should be a viable option.
You had time to think about the engagements. My reflexes can’t respond fast enough to how hectic & fast the 6v6 scene is.
Yeah, but unfortunately that lead to camping, team shooting meta. I agree the secondary weapons are rampant right now but having pure primary duels isnt any better. I hated D1 crucible at its final stages because specials were as sparse like heavies.
Something in between that and current secondary frequencies would be the better spot but not either or.
And no, I dont want any specials meta, not even sniper meta which I would say is much worse than shotgun. At least with close range weapons you can run or gain distance, with snipers you can and will die the moment you peek your head out. Hated the sniper meta in D1

@@HibiscusOrchid I feel like specials or abilities need to be adjusted. You can't have both of them be as strong as they are now. Special makes up for missing your abilities and abilities make up for missing your special. There are a lot of good primaries don't get me wrong. But in a lot of game modes you can entirely rely on your special.

gosh, miss leviathan so much. i have so many great memories of going in there with my clan friends and trying to firgure out all of the mechanics. now that clan has been dissolved, my friends moved on from destiny altogether. but I'll forever cherish those memories, even if i will have to play this game alone from now on

You had to pay for those dlcs and they deleted them and their planets, and you dont even get an emblem for a “thank you” it just makes me really mad
Thank you. I've been saying this since they took the planets away. It would have been alright for me if they gave us a emblem or a emote or something like that for playing from then to now. But they just took them away and gave nothing back either.

Oh wow... what a flashback man. It's crazy to see how much the game evolved and how I felt at the time. I skipped all of D1 because I was hooked on Battlefield and COD at the time. But I defended the hell out of D2 and always had high hopes that it would get better. Nah bro, just give it time, trust me it will get better. Despite all the slack and negativity this game gets from the general public, it's hands down my favorite game. It's just so good. Thanks for taking me down memory lane with this clip. I never had the opportunity to play Destiny 1 and then I got an XB1 for christmas in 2017. I remember some of this but I wasn't around for OG D2 for sure. Cool to see how much tings have changed since then, little bittersweet because I miss some of the locations, like when I got my friend into D2 I took him to the bowels of the facility on Titan to show him the sea monster... Crazy to see that it's come such a long way to where we're at right now, talking to Savathun herself and eventually facing her finally.
One thing hasn't changed in the almost 4 years since *I* started playing Destiny 2, and that's how much I love it.
pvp was all about skill back then, i rly miss those days.
I know a lot of people give early D2 a lot of shit but personally I always loved stacking the challenge card for Nightfall Runs to 100K and having a 15 minute timer and trying to blow through as fast as I could with a fire team where we would have certain sets of guns and run very specific gear admittedly it was tedious but I have some really good memories from it.

I remember when Curse of Osiris dropped and we got our first trace rifle after months MIDA dominated crucible, and how broken crucible was for about 3 days. All those F'ing tokens, MIDA crucible and Noob callouts in the void realm of the final encounter of Leviathan...Man, I don't miss that even a little bit. Great work my dude! I remember my better devils,uriels gift and perfect paradox shotty loadout. Sometimes I miss yr 1 D2,especially crucible. It was the most gun focused and balanced we had ever seen pvp in Destiny.
Wish they’d at least bring back the y1 feel with a rotating crucible game mode or something

I really want them to bring back every year 1 thing, I personally believe that the game was far more enjoyable for the first 2 years, when beyond light released it removed the best raids and campaigns. I hope that they bring back the old raids and old campaigns.
My guess is they will do what they did at the end of D1, and do the whole year of triumphs thing where they added every raid etc. I feel they will do this after lightfall
The only raids that even compare to any of the raids in destiny 1 from the first two years of destiny 2 are scourge of the past and last wish, red war’s campaign was a drag with annoying characters and only 3 good and interesting missions within, curse of Osiris’ campaign was a joke, warmind’s campaign was an absolute embarrassment and forsaken’s campaign was only ok, it only had like 4 actual missions and like 8 or more adventures.

I liked the double primary side effects, like how all your exotic primaries were valid DPS options. I kinda wish end game guns had a large fixed pool you had to unlock perks in like D1. Because I’m sick of grinding adept Palis and only getting high impact reserves. I want Leviathan back.
I remember my first day when i reached light lvl 260 in the first 22 hrs and doing every pinacle activity.. then after 2 weeks i had every exotic weapon acquireable through engrams 😂 it was a weird state for destiny. Only thing i really miss are the planets, leviathan and trials of the nine with the first map. I enjoyed it much more than trials of osiris

I still can't believe Bungie got away with vaulting the content we payed for....
nobody misses Io, Mercury, Titan, maybe even Mars. There were small, pointless, and dead. There was no story there beyond a campaign or secret mission, nothing to chase, no updated rewards, no engaging events or special places

I only started playing just over a year ago, seeing what the game was like back then will be so cool!
I also loved the dlc hints with the missions and final cutscene. Adventures hinting at Osiris, Calus, mars, and all the other stuff
I almost forgot that the only armor stats were Recovery, Mobility, and Resilience.
This reminds me why I stopped playing destiny 2 for so long. The current iteration is so much better.
Pvp balancing is the only thing that is embarrassingly bad in destiny 2 as it stands now

Man this brings back memories, if I ever had a choice to replay a game from the beginning.
It would definitely be D2 but I'd change the weapon slots and enjoy feelings like exploring new locations and figuring out exotics.
I miss when nameless midnight was a good scout and merciless melted bosses but I definitely don't miss D2Y1 as a whole
