It's neither underrated nor unknowingly celebrated. The Paul/George harmony combination is among the most famous in popular music, nearly as famous as the Lennon/McCartney harmonies and the three part harmonies they specialised in. This is The Beatles we are talking about.
@@fshoaps The Paul/George harmony combination, on any Beatles song, not this one in particular. The same qualities are celebrated in all Paul/George vocals, how they provide a high and mid counterpoint to John, how George's timbre and adenoidal qualities are similar to Johns, adding extra 'weight' to a John vocal, but also how Paul and George's local Liverpool accents are similar (and different to John and Ringos) so provide a smooth backup to John. All these thing have been pointed out over and over again and analysed to death. That was my point. I get yours now, in that you were talking about the specific harmonies on this specific song. And I agree, they do sound amazing together to me too.
I honestly had no idea The Beatles covered this until last night. But when I heard this version I guessed that it was George singing immediately. Kinda surprised though since George didn't normally sing notes like this back in 1962. He usually opted for a high baritone range as opposed to the low tenor range he would later adopt. On a lot of The Beatles' earlier recordings, I used to find George's voice hard to distinguish from John's, since they often sang similar ranges in their earlier years. Both had strong Liverpool accents, although John's vocal was quite raspy. While George's vocal was quite smooth, not unlike Paul's except George's timbre was lower than Paul's was.
John also helped George learn to sing so at the beginning he would copy what he heard John sing. George didn't have his distinct sound yet and he was trying to sing like John so they sounded similar

George was the most confident on the Decca recordings. We tend to think of George's talent slowly emerging from John and Paul's shadow over the course of the Beatles recording career, but it's worth remembering in the years 1960 to 62 John Paul and George took equal alternate lead vocal duties, it was only with the start of their recording career, with George not writing yet that he got knocked back to one or two leads per album.
