I bought the 32" version of this TV. WOrks great, price great. I saw an article from some guy who cut one up to see who made it. A white one for the TV remote and a green one for the Firestick remote. Helps to know which one to grab.
What is a Firestick Max? I must have been missing something with the one I had. It was a 43 or 42 inch. How do I load things on to the tv to watch ? I do not have cable or internet. Just a smart phone and indoor antenna.

LOL. Kathy and Mac in Florence OR.
Good review and very informative. I have the 32" model and I love the picture and sound quality, but the app layout and the remote are horrible. Also, I dislike that it's an Amazon product and as such, Alexa and Amazon apps are relentlessly promoted. Other than those issues, it's a decent TV and it pairs well with UA-cam, Tubi, Pluto, and other apps.
I had an insignia 55" Fire TV. The display went black under warrenty a TV repair shop came and got it to fix it, a week later they called and said the LEDs went out and the parts are not available. I'll never buy an insignia TV again. I now have the Amazon (TCL) Brand Fire TV and love it, I own 3 of them and plan on getting 2 more.
This TV seems to incorporate some of the FireTV Recast features such as the two week program schedule. It would have been nice if you were able to access your antenna programs on multiple TV's via the internet like you can with the Recast or a Tablo.
I bought the 43 inch at Best Buy on sale three weeks ago. Love the TV. It replaced a 16 year old Sony. I already had the Apple 4k streamer. The Apple chip and the apps built for it are hard to beat. I have a Firestick on my 32 in Sony in my kitchen. Compared to the Apple streamer it is as slow as molasses.
i appreciate the review, i've actually been looking at this model for a while. one question i have that i haven't been able to get a good answer on, though: if you pair a bluetooth audio device to the tv through the fire tv settings, does that also transmit the audio coming from the hdmi and composite inputs or is it only for the fire tv apps?
I have two (or three) follow up questions. The first: can you add stations manually if you know the RF channel or must you run the scan repeated until it is detected? The second: how difficult is it to add FAST Channels (“free ad-supported TV”)? My son and I really like the “Shawn the Sheep” channel. One last question: do they make “dumb TVs” anymore? Televisions that consist of only a tuner and HDMI In? I’d pay over-the-odds for that instead of having to monitor the traffic of the smart TVs in the house (which, I can report, are sometimes too smart for their own good).
I have a Fire Stick and the same gripe about those ads. I wish my LG had the pause live TV feature. I did have a Roku TV with that feature but grew to have a great dislike for that TV overall. The final nail in the coffin was when it died after just over two years. I was happy for many years with Roku boxes. Esp. with the ones compatible with my old style TV.
FYI…TCL now has a fire tv model , I have both the and the fire tv by them ..I like the way my Roku tv works better but I am locked into the Amazon ecosystem so I use the other one more .dont like the sound it though
Thanks for the report. I find it uncomfortable not having the ability to change channels using a digital number pad on the remote. I actually purchased larger TV's if they had that kind of remote.
Could you buy a universal remote that supports this TV with a number pad and up down channel buttons? You could return the universal remote if this does not work.
I have the 42 inch F30 series 4K model Insignia Fire TV that I got as a Birthday present this year. Amazon needs to update the logos for the Broadcast networks (ABC for example still had the 2013 logo). I personally would like to see Local Station logos in place of their network Counterparts.
I have a 22” Insignia “dumb” tv that I love for my kitchen. It’s actually 1080p, rare for this tiny size and has a surprisingly decent picture, good clarity and clean. I paid only $60, brand new. I believe it was a “deal of the day” at BB. As with all my TVs I have it hooked my rooftop antenna and I get 83 stations, more than my other TVs(78-80 stations) so decent tuner. I also have a Firestick and Roku 4k Express attached. Quite happy for my use case. Also it sounds better than my bigger TVs, it’s not tinny, bright or scratchy, or muffled. Don’t really care about the sound of any tv, I have sound systems on them. My 2nd Insignia. Loved my first, a 39” 1080p tv but that was destroyed when lightning struck my satellite dish back in 2014. Insignia is a fine budget tv in my experience.
@@sandygenier795 it’s a FireTV streaming device much like a Roku stick. It plugs directly into the HDMI port of the tv or AVR. Amazon makes 3 sticks from 1080p to 4K with HDR, plus the Cube that combines the abilities of their best stick with a full sized Echo smart speaker.
Hey antenna man, Blackhawks fans in Chicago are having trouble getting the new CHSN OTA channel. Could you make a video guide on recommendations to get the channel? Thank you
i noticed ota channel guide info is transmitted by the station as they desire. some are evey hour others 3-6 hours. our 32 inch was janky the first day or two then everything started working right
I bought this tv. Took it back 2 days later. I do not have cable just a indoor antenna. There was no tv guide to tell what show was on that channel I was viewing nor what was coming on next on it was considered a "smart tv". I scanned many times. Sound and picture were not in sync. Constantly had to change the channel then return to it. I took it back to Best Buy and got a " dumb tv". Problem solved. Channel guide was there and I know which show is on. It is not the best but better than the Smart Fire 43 inch that I had first.
Was i supposed to somehow hook the tv to my phone? I did not get any of those channel guides or streaming channels for free mentioned. I do not have internet at my house, only my phone.
First of all, I am a Fire Tv user with several sticks and a cube. I also have a fire tv recast. But, it really bothers me that you can't run the Spectrum app on fire tv. ROKU is the solution.
Are they like the ROKU tvs that are a pain to tune in OTA channels? I guess being old and always just being able to turn a knob to a channel or enter the number is not normal these days.
Check the TV carefully, many TVs sold on Amazon here in Canada DO NOT have a built-in OTA TV tuner. I bought a new Sony 32-inch smart TV last year and Sony and Samsung are the only ones with built-in TV tuners, apparently. Many TVs are geared for Pay Internet TV, they're obviously not pushing free over-the-air TV in Canada. I checked all the links you provided for the 24-, 32- and 42-inch TVs. None of them ship to Canada, they give Vizio, Hisense or TCL as alternatives.
I just got the 50 in but having trouble getting channel 2 and 7 in Daly city, ca 94014. I have tried using the channel master cm3412 amplifier with a flat antenna with an one amplifier with 5g filter. I have tried moving tv into another room that has a window and no luck. So I came back into the living room which as a window but it's just the neighbors window across. I don't know what else to do. My old vizo HDTV got those channels
You might be dealing with the same issue I mentioned in the video that the TV sometimes doesn't add channels to the guide right away. Try re-scanning later or tomorrow.
The caveat of the insignia fire TVs that are cheap is the interface is really slow. I have the 32inch tv. It was pretty good initially, but became slow to respond after a month or so. I even hard wired it to try to improve the speed, but the interface is still slow, and sometimes you have to hard reboot the tv. The home screen blank issue he talked about happens intermittently.
@@ltsiver then get a Roku or whatever one you like They are all cheap enough I payed about 55 for the 24 inch Well worth it for the basement or even the garage
I don't want a smart tv, but since all tv's now come bundled with all this data collection software there really aren't any good alternatives anymore. I'm curious how well this works as a regular dumb tv if you choose not to connect it to the internet.
I bought mine many years ago when the 50 inch was less then the 42 inch. It is a slow experience and hooking up others like the Roku device works faster.
@@J_8zz8 I bought the TV back in 2020 but took me forever to even put this on a stnad. I used to watch the TV more but when my hours changed at work I rarely watch it anymore. Not a fan of FireTV so when it does die will just find a good TV for cheap. I would rather have a dumb TV that I can add what I want to add to it.
I love my new 50" insignia fire tv. But I am disappointed. Why? The TV is excellent but It has one annoying issue. The tv turns on in the middle of the night. It tuned on at around mid night, 2am 4an and even 4:50am. Different times, at different nights. Ridiculous. I called the insignia manufacturer about this issue. We did some trouble shooting, but they did not have a resolution.🤔 So what did Lou do. I had no choice but the think out the box and ordered a power outlet timer. I SET this time to shut down by 11:30pm and set to initiate power at 7am. This was the only way to stop this insignia fire tv from booting up in the middle of the night waking me up. This was hard on me because I lost sleep several nights. I was super sleepy at work since getting this tv. Note: I asked insignia tech support to try and come up with an update to help resolve this issue. LMK if anyone elas has experienced this booting up in the middle of the night.
The only thing I am sad about with Fire TVs is that Recast will go away I believe sometime in 2026. Aside from that, it is kind of expensive otherwise to convert your whole house to Fire TV dependant on the number of devices. Regardless, I can't recommend Fire TV enough even with those problems. Even for the simple fact that you can watch your recordings outside the home. I don't think any other active model OTA device does that now. I think tablo use to do that, but not anymore.
Slow-as-f* menus and scanning, anything that is a response to input. O.K. picture, I guess. Sound seems consistently out-of-synch, just barely, to video, on all three I have. No problem if I am just listening to something in the background, annoying to watch.
@@davidgoodnow269 I stopped using Roku's because their built in media player to play local video files is really bad. Android Tvs and Chromecasts have VLC media and that can play local media and connect to network storage (Nvidia Shield). I DVR OTA TV using Kafeine on Linux Mint and then transfer the video files to network storage. Any device on my home network can play the DVR recordings. In a nutshell, Android/google devices can do everything a roku can do and can better adapt to your future needs.
The button with 3 lines on the remote is called the "hamburger". Bun with meat in the middle. Do any of these TV's have Bluetooth? Thanks for the video.
I really don't like fire tv os (mainly the ads like you mentioned). I much prefer google tv, or samsung. I have a 32" made by toshiba (720p), works fine, and a 4k 43" that has a great picture bang for the buck. The color isn't as good as a good tv, but the 4k content from amazon prime like The Grand Tour, looks $. Toshiba and Insignia are both best buy house brands (Best Buy bought the toshiba name). I am sure them and all amazon brand fire tv's are all made in the same factory in Mexico. I have a non smart insignia, and a toshiba fire tv in my workout room (because my equipment points different directions). The insignia remote (and thus the programed fire stick remote) will power on both tv's in the same room and change channel/volume haha. The toshiba fire tv remote will only work the toshiba.
Have been very curious about anything not Vizio. Can't even go straight to over the air stations without an unwanted long time wasting Visio grid then listings. ANYONE Please tell me about mystery channels I may like
If the user interface is the same as a FireStick I'll pass. Unlike a Roku device/TV It's really frustrating trying to find apps on a FiireStick. Maybe the Fire TVs have more customization options, but in looking at the video I'm not seeing much difference between the Fire TV and FireStick.
Im surpised antenna man didnt talk about the other inputs at all, especially the antenna. I bought a pioneer branded amazon tv while online drunk shopping. Its a damn fire tv and i regret it. The tv guide never actually populates. If i go to the channel manually it still says program info unavailable so i click left and usually it shows the one show im watching but most are still unknown. Its very frustrating but thats what i get for being a brandwhore.
I have 24" Insignia and hate it. It lags and seems to have to redownload apps I already loaded when I wanted to watch them. The tuner sensitivity is not great and the ads every time you turn on the tv is annoying. Fire aggressively pushes Prime content. I don't like the Fire ecosystem and find Roku much better. I replaced that Fire tv with a cheap Roku Westinghouse and like it much better.
@@anguslean4058Roku TV is not good…. I have one in RCA; a 43 inch TV. It tends to delay when turning your TV ON. I have to sometimes take the plug out and plug it back in to get the TV to turn ON properly. If you press the home button on the firestick remote it brings you to the firestick home page. I have to use the TV remote to turn the TV on and off. The TV opens to the last device I used which is almost always the firestick.
I bought foam plastic covers (from Temu) for the remotes.

Good review. I had not considered this brand, but will now. Thank you.

Hi Tyler, a question, do you know if it is possible to link a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to this television?
HI tYLER, LIKE YOUR SHOWS AND REVIEWS. YOUR ANTENNA ADVISE HAS BEEN A LIFESAVERFOR ME. I like the Insignia fire tvs and have a 65". Could i get you to tell me the chanel or site you mention where you said "if you know you ". I used some such site a couple years back but they dont work anymore. Please let me know, so I know!!! LOL. Kathy and Mac in Florence OR.
Question: Are there FHD TVs with ATSC 3.0 tuner or only 4K TVs have the latest tuner?
Good review and very informative. I have the 32" model and I love the picture and sound quality, but the app layout and the remote are horrible. Also, I dislike that it's an Amazon product and as such, Alexa and Amazon apps are relentlessly promoted. Other than those issues, it's a decent TV and it pairs well with UA-cam, Tubi, Pluto, and other apps.
I have. Toshiba 50" FireTV and it seems to have worked out 2 years later
You got your money's worth out of the Sony, hope you have the same luck with this one.

i appreciate the review, i've actually been looking at this model for a while. one question i have that i haven't been able to get a good answer on, though: if you pair a bluetooth audio device to the tv through the fire tv settings, does that also transmit the audio coming from the hdmi and composite inputs or is it only for the fire tv apps?
Do you have any 4K TV reviews?
I have the 32 inch model and the only problem I have with it is that it has less storage than a regular fire stick.
Does it let you enter more than 1 number to change channels?
When Tyler wakes up your Amazon Fire Tablet
Interesting. I was looking for a resource to pick a better TV and BaM there you are 😊
I have a Fire Stick and the same gripe about those ads. I wish my LG had the pause live TV feature. I did have a Roku TV with that feature but grew to have a great dislike for that TV overall. The final nail in the coffin was when it died after just over two years. I was happy for many years with Roku boxes. Esp. with the ones compatible with my old style TV.
Nah! I'll stick with my TCL Roku. Free channel menu, no lagging. It sounded good till you mentioned those two obstacles. Thank you for the preview
FYI…TCL now has a fire tv model , I have both the and the fire tv by them ..I like the way my Roku tv works better but I am locked into the Amazon ecosystem so I use the other one more .dont like the sound it though
If you ever purchase one someday, will you please do a review of the Insignia F30 series Amazon 4K television?
Is this limited to Amazon fire apps, or can you load any google play apps?
Thanks for the report. I find it uncomfortable not having the ability to change channels using a digital number pad on the remote. I actually purchased larger TV's if they had that kind of remote.
Could you buy a universal remote that supports this TV with a number pad and up down channel buttons? You could return the universal remote if this does not work.
@@AAa-qd8hb That does work on a 6 year old Westinghouse I have.
@@AAa-qd8hb buy a separate firestick with the number pad.
What is a Fire Stick?
@@sandygenier795 it’s a FireTV streaming device much like a Roku stick. It plugs directly into the HDMI port of the tv or AVR. Amazon makes 3 sticks from 1080p to 4K with HDR, plus the Cube that combines the abilities of their best stick with a full sized Echo smart speaker.
Hey antenna man, Blackhawks fans in Chicago are having trouble getting the new CHSN OTA channel. Could you make a video guide on recommendations to get the channel? Thank you
Have sony bravia and vizio, love insignia
@antennaman do you know if you can play xcloud games on these tvs alone via bluetooth?
How much can you time shift?
I bought the 32 inch for a kitchen tv, worked great for a year then it just stopped working
i noticed ota channel guide info is transmitted by the station as they desire. some are evey hour others 3-6 hours. our 32 inch was janky the first day or two then everything started working right
I bought this tv.
I do not have internet at my house, only my phone.
whats the website he uses?
That’s why I’m here lol
they work for a year. I had 3 of them.
can u do one on the TLC 90 inch tv lol or some huge one
Can u use Bluetooth headphones?
I have the 42 “ and 32 “ insignia tv. The one thing I’m not too crazy about is their isn’t enough space in the hard drive
Constant notifications will literally drive you crazy.
no matter what system your tv comes with, it is best to just hook up a ROKU for streaming. 👀💯👍
I was hoping you'd at least mention the connections, e.g., the number and type of HDMI inputs.
I hate that manufacturers don't put numbers on remotes....I like pushing '4' and '3' for MeTV..
The laggy interface is what I'm referring to when I say it is slow. Also, Tablo tv (4thgen) is slow on the tv.
Buy a fire stick and you will have no lag at all
@@anguslean4058 sadly, the sticks get pretty laggy too.
@@ltsiver then get a Roku or whatever one you like

I don't want a smart tv, but since all tv's now come bundled with all this data collection software there really aren't any good alternatives anymore. I'm curious how well this works as a regular dumb tv if you choose not to connect it to the internet.
I bought mine many years ago when the 50 inch was less then the 42 inch. It is a slow experience and hooking up others like the Roku device works faster.
How many years ago did u buy this? Just concerned after seeing a couple ppl say theirs went out after a few months to a year of usage.
We did some trouble shooting, but they did not have a resolution.🤔
So what did Lou do.
Can you jailbreak it?
Yes
Videos on UA-cam on how to jail break it
The only thing I am sad about with Fire TVs is that Recast will go away I believe sometime in 2026.
What Are Your🤔Thoughts On Onn Roku Tvs
They’re not so good. I own one! The TVs sometimes don’t turn ON or it freezes to turn on your TV. Very annoying.

ANYONE Please tell me about mystery channels I may like
Where can I find a dumb TV? If I want my TV smart, I'll educate it myself...
My 43 inch only lasted 2 years. I replaced it with a Visio
What if i dont know but want to?
Did you have to show clips from The View? I almost lost my breakfast. 🤮

I can’t agree; “The View” is an excellent test of over-the-air reception. If you can see the plastic surgery scars you know it’s a good television. 😁
Mine was almost 2 years old before it died
I have 24" Insignia and hate it. It lags and seems to have to redownload apps I already loaded when I wanted to watch them. The tuner sensitivity is not great and the ads every time you turn on the tv is annoying. Fire aggressively pushes Prime content. I don't like the Fire ecosystem and find Roku much better. I replaced that Fire tv with a cheap Roku Westinghouse and like it much better.
You could have just bought Roku tv box and kept the tv
@@anguslean4058Roku TV is not good…. I have one in RCA; a 43 inch TV. It tends to delay when turning your TV ON. I have to sometimes take the plug out and plug it back in to get the TV to turn ON properly. I shouldn’t have to go through that and it was a bad idea to integrate Roku into a Television set where it should be separate when Roku is a streamer device.
Great DTV for the money, more functions/features then what we need just to get OTA TV. Tyler could you do a review on a standard DTV receiver that's not a smart TV?
hey bro, how about instead of deleting comments you actually own up to the fact that these TVs malfunction! You shouldn’t be recommending these to people and I don’t appreciate you deleting my comments, giving people the honest truth about these TVs breaking all the time!
