I've always really liked the gun dealer as a character. He knows that there's a market to be fulfilled, and he also knows that what people do with his products after they pay for them is precisely none of his business. He doesn't WANT to know. And his carefulness is paying off. In the obviously extremely volatile New Mexico underground, here he is, years later, still swimming.
Why are people always jerking off characters in breaking bad, he doesn't want to know because you're not supposed to be snoopy in that line of work, it can literally get you killed for asking. Every movie even remotely about crime plays into the cliche "no questions asked" and not only that but he asked if the gun would be smuggled across the border.

He did mention in BCS that his business is mainly referrals and repeat customers, so he does want to leave a good impression. He was also one of the few true consummate professionals seen on the show, he simply sold his goods to customers and didn't care about what they wanted it for, he was always strictly business.

I like how they even got the ammunition cans right for the M60, 4 M80s followed by a 5th M62 tracer. Most directors wouldve just had generic green ammo cans thrown in.

Lawson had known of him as a suburban family man in the market for _personal protection_ and was not inclined to believe Walter had any use for a GPMG other than straw purchasing on the Cartel's behalf. After being assured otherwise and prompted for the manual , Lawson surmised that _force multiplication_ dictated Walter's purchase. "Good luck" meant that Lawson gathered it would not be for a psychotic rampage and "I guess" was the most he could offer a man before the final crusade along with one last glance

I remember the Reddit theories about how Skyler would be dead and this was Walt using her name to remember her. This flashforward was wild just because it would be more than a year before the story caught up to it and it was resolved. So many crazy ideas about what the gun would be used for.

The brilliance of this season to start with the introduction of the M60 and end with the payoff. That moment in the final episode is the perfect culmination of realisation and hype.
When I heard the last episode was called Felina, there had to be Marty Robbins singing El Paso. When it happened I laughed.
And to think, Vince and the writers had no idea what the M60 was gonna be used for when they first wrote the scene; Uncle Jack and the Neo Nazi gang didn't even exist at the time. Outstanding writing.

It went from "Walter purchases a snub-nose revolver" then it's "Walter purchases an M60 machine gun". If there was another season or two I'm sure there would be "Walter purchases weapons-grade plutonium"

It would be a huge issue if it did. The second it crossed into either Mexico or another State the Feds would be on it, and they *will* find Lawson at that point.

usually in these type of situations they aren’t super specific when asking what they want. i wouldn’t be surprised if walter said “i need something that handle a bunch of people at once”
@@kamicloudss Yeah Walter would be thinking about his trunk trick, so he knew he needed something heavy caliber and with lots of ammo. He might have said "something like Rambo's gun" since that's a movie he might have seen, but then he was never big on movie references. It's more likely that he just described what he needed and the dealer handled the rest.

That New Hampshire plate foreshadowed his demise. These small details make the show perfect.
This premier did a great job of foreshadowing without giving anything away. We had so many questions like what's the machine gun for, who is the ricin for, why was Walt in, presumably, another state?

@@AK-rj7zv The license plate says Live Free or Die at the top. At the end of their journeys, one lived free and one died between the duo. Jesse drove off and lived free, leaving everything behind him. He can be reasonably assumed to have changed his life. Walt died with his empire.

@@rice83101 The idea was liberty for citizens. Slaves and foreigners were not citizens. There wasn't the idea of human unity that you commonly see now. The north also didn't have as many slaves as the south because their economy didn't require it to make a profit. Also the rich people were not the only people who had to pay extra taxes under colonial rule, many taxes were pointed at the lower classes and predominantly hurt them because they had less money to spend in the first place.
Yeah NH is an interesting place. It’s beautiful and undeveloped, with pockets of industry. I had a hard time finding a truck stop out there, had to park at a Walmart.

Love how he got the same gun guy, and that he was willing to work with a dangerous but respectable business partner. Probably the biggest risk of his career, and payout.
Even the writers didn't know what they wanted to do with the M60 at the time they wrote this episode. Seriously, everyone loves the show, but I'm just impressed with how well the writers were able to deal with so many behind-the-scenes curveballs thrown at them. Raymond Cruz leaving the cast meant that Gus Fring would become the main Villan, that's just one example.
I do remember Vince saying while they didn't know exactly how it would be used, the general idea was "Walter is saving someone." Most fans on the Internet pretty quickly figured it would be to save either Skyler (wrong) or Jesse (correct), but exactly how it would be used and against whom was always a mystery. (Although in hindsight I guess it was pretty obvious the gang from 508 would be the new villains). I remember people thinking the Declan gang from Arizona would be the big bads, but of course they ended up being something of a red herring misdirection.
Man, it was wild when this show was still on, we saw this flashforward not knowing at the time there'd be over a year break between the season, so it took a long time for this to be resolved. Lots of fun theories about what would happen.

Some interesting facts about the M60. It is a belt feed weapon. It generally requires two people (soldiers) to use. One to operate the machine gun and one to feed the belt. When the weapon gets too hot, a pair of leaded gloves are used to swap out the red hot barrel with a spare one. Walt used a remote control to use the M60, he didn't exactly follow specific guidelines.
yeah the belt was in the ammo box attached to the m60. they even paid attention to detail that the belt was loaded in order: 4 m80 ball rounds and 1 m62 armor piercing tracer. which was visible during the shootout.

1:42 I don't care who you are or what you've been through - we all know that tired, empty feeling at sunrise in a Denny's parking lot.

Had the fortune of shooting one in basic. "I NEED A BURST" 18 rounds in 2.5-3 secs... the barrel gets so hot, you have to change it out. Thats 360 rounds a minute .16 rounds per soldier, for a squad of 10men in 1 minute firing down range. 12 M-16s (30rounds per clip) thats crazy... all in 1 minute... that weapon gets you life in prison
But I will wager there are a few in circulation for those with enough cash... I mean it did just come out that the military has an alarming number of missing/stolen weapons and munitions right here in the US.
