Super cool vid! The truest essence of hot rodding. Taking old factory parts from all over and making power. And the fit of the hood on the Firebird…grade A. 👊🏻
That looks cool, I like it!! I made a similar deal about 20 years ago, 455 with a b&m 174 on a bds intake. Ran good but it would only make about 5psi. That just started the addiction lol. later the car went to a borg warner s475 turbo and then a few years ago that turned into an s488.
pretty cool video. sorry about your friends divorce. maybe you could tell him this joke: "why are divorces so expensive? because they are worth it." I have a 1982 S10 with a 6.0 LQ4 that I put an Eaton M90 on. I have a 7.4 inch harmonic balancer and a 2.55 inch supercharger pulley and it makes about 4.5lbs of boost. it's fuel injected. I live in Wyoming and the elevation is 7k feet. the dragstrip I go to is named Hypoxia and it's at 6500 feet. Your Firebird is a cool car. maybe you could take the 260 out and put the 301 in it.
That is awesome how such a small supercharger can still make boost on a big engine. Thank you for sharing that! Gives me confidence in a project that I am working on with an M112 supercharger on an 8.2 liter Cadillac 500 engine.
@@raysoto1969 it's a big engine but it doesn't make much power. I think that M112 will help it a lot. I had the silencer ports welded shut on my M90 and it is supposed to make more boost.
The 301 is definatly an orphan, really a shame they didn't just shorten the deck height and offer a shorter stroke that is normally counterweighted. A dude built a 301T with normal Pontiac heads and a normal 3.75" crank with a custom intake manifold bored 0.030" over for 383ci and it made 475hp.
I introduced your video to a 301 group on facebooks. Hopefully you gained some followers in the last week. They'd love to have you in the group also. You'd be listened to intently lol.
You make great videos and I learn something every time. In regards to the turbo intake casting “ The rare one” if you knew someone that did sand casting and could make a couple you would have a spare (just a thought)
Hey im not an expert i just want my car to have more power....so i plan to install side mounted superchage and install a top mounting carb ...so the formation that i planning is engine> supercharge than carburetor ...so my question is can i get the car to start easily? Or can it even start?
@@raysoto1969 Just yrs ago, friends saw many broken cranks from 301s, they had a engine shop with a dyno. They said dont bother hot rodding a 301. Wont take high compression or rpms. I had a 78 Gp with 301.
@terrypikaart4394 Thank you for your reply.... but I'm going to respectfully disagree. I have never seen an actual broken 301 crankshaft. Spun rod bearings, maybe, from a lack of maintenance or improper engine rebuilding. I have seen head gasket failures on turbo Trans Am's from overboost or preignition. But again, never an actual broken crankshaft. I have read a ton of old forums about how people say how weak the 301 crankshaft is, and how they just explode like grenades... yet nobody has never ever posted actual proof or a single picture of a broken 301 crankshaft. It's like an old rumor people seem to repeat from someone else.

Coming along nicely! Also, we need some ride along videos of the 260 Firebird!
Love it Ray!!! Awesome fabrication and well thought out. I'd love to see what that does compared to a Turbocharged 301 at similar boost.
Thank you, Tocayo. l look very forward to seeing more videos from you also!

I love that firebird….i like how it has the early 70’s front clip on it….definitley cool
Haha.... you are one of the few who know the difference!

Interesting choice of an engine to build for performance.
Cool projects!

Nice concept….cant wait to hear this thing run

Making a mold for the cores would probably require cutting a intake up but if you sacrificed one to make twenty it'd be worth it
I am VERY interested in doing this to my car. Please let me know if parts come available.
красивый проект. смотрится круто!!! молодец
I hope to make my own soon
Following!
Even in factory turbocharged form, the 301 produced less bhp per litre than pretty much any European engine of the same era.
Think I can pull this off on a big block 455?
fun stuff
For the carburetor flange have you thought about cutting up a offenhauser 5497 cross ram adapter or something similar?
Yes, that would work well also!

The supercharger will be boosting to the carburetor?.... You will need a blow-thru carburetor. After that, yes, it will work
So would you consider making a kit ?
Yes, what parts would you need included in the kit, and what price do you think would be fair?
cool stuff! how much HP will the M112 support?
About 470hp with engine mods. Up to 540 ported
When will you be running this?
Hopefully, in a month or two, I'll make a video starting it up on the engine stand
Is that bypass valve attached to a throttle cable?
@@christhompson9440 No, it's vacuum operated
🥝✔️
Thats all fine, but the crankshafts in those engines snap like a pretzel..
What experience do you speak of? There are others here on youtube making 400 plus horsepower on the stock 301 crankshaft

Im glad your confident in your project and have faith in it living a while. Just dont spin it over 7000!..
@terrypikaart4394 Haha, I agree, I won't be spinning it any higher than 5000rpm
Going to be like a blow dryer with out an inner cooler
ALL YOUR TALK OF "FLOW" IS ERELAVANT WITH A "PRESSURED " INTAKE. Yes, you did increase volumetric efficientsy witch is a plus.
Lol boosting a 12:5:1 engine 💣💥
