Great tutorial on how to make brake lines correctly. I've seen others do single flares which are doomed to failure. While I am highly unlikely to be making my own brake lines, I found the video interesting and informative and a good reference on how to do the job right.
Thanks for the tutorial! I've always been intimidated by diy brake lines and what not, but you make it look so easy I'll definitely give it a try someday
What an awesome video, Dave. Wow, those lines on the master cylinder are absolutely beautiful. BTW, here is an idea for applying the brake fluid to the line while flaring, have you ever thought of getting an old-school oil can, the metal ones with the long, thin spout that you depress the bottom of to squirt oil in a small area? I bet one would work for applying the brake fluid, too while reducing your waste and clean-up. Here is another idea for getting your brake line shape prior to bending your lines, you could use some old home electrical wire to perfect your line shape by hand so that when you start bending your line, you have your shape very close to what you need and what will look good and clean.
Good little video,I personally have been in situations where I had to build many a brake lines for different vehicles, none are the same.enjoyed the tutorial.keep on doing what your doing and remember your getting closer and closer to the finish line.I have been here since the beginning of this build.kudos 👍👍👍😎😎😎
When I started replacing the brake line on my magnum , I used the 14 charger line, they are the same but the ABS module has buble flare instead of double flare... so I cut it, did the buble flare and use the double flare fitting... didn't work at all, it runned out of thread in the ABS before making enought contact with the flare. I cut it again and used the oem fitting did the flare again and that time it was good... I tough of just replace the valve bloc and use line like they are but they could have changed a lots a thing inside.
I'd use a hydraulic oil for lubricant vs brake fluid only because brake fluid is very harsh on painted surfaces hands etc. A little brake cleaner and air clean up after so that the lines are clean.
1/8” solder works best for making a template with complex angles. It holds shape well and can be straightened and reused. I’m considering a turret flare tool. Is the Eastwood really that much better than the others 1/4 of the price?
I've had a difficult time reliably sourcing quality flare fittings, do you have any recommendations? I use any oil I have nearby (usually penetrating lube) to lubricate rather than nasty brake fluid but to each their own haha
Not the tool, but thanks for the recommendation! I've been using the ridgid 458R. I mean the actual inverted flare nuts, unions, etc. I'm looking for a reliable source of non-chinesium hardware
Good morning Dave! You said you had a hatch for a Tesla? You should see if Kyle Wade from Boostedboiz needs it because he just bought one and it needs a rear hatch.
@@Junkyard_Dave aww man, I was hoping that you were into vdubs. I was going to ask to do a 3.6 vr6 awd turbo slepper B6passat, since there's not a lot of support for that engine here in the states it would be a lot of fab work and custom everything. I really enjoy all the content keep it up Sir.
Remaking brakelines is a pita, especially when they are ran in hard/impossible to reach places like above fuel tanks, subframes and crap like that. Wiring and brakelines are both high up in my least favorite automotive jobs list.
Remember the Easter goal date take it seriously Dave if I wasn’t 20 hours away I’d come help you I just can’t drive that far lol I’d never make it 😂other wise I’d be there cussing with ya lol 😂 can’t wait to hear the first fire and see the look on your Face ID love to be there to film it
Lube it by pouring it out of the bottle, onto the tool, bench & floor? No. Sloppy. Very poor example for learning DIYers. If I saw a mechanic run a shop like that, I'd run in the opposite direction. You tossed your hand held tubing straightener in the trash?.......just because you got a bigger, more expensive one? Who does that? No one smart.

Every single race car I’ve ever been around uses 37° single flare AN and never had a single issue

Thank you for sharing. Bottom line is practice and use scrap to make it look and work better. Thanks Dave

I think you have a lot of knowledge to give. I love the idea of these types of videos.
very detailed and results that are honestly probably to a higher standard than I need! Deburring with the drill is a good tip!
Super useful video! And I’ll be getting all those tools you recommended but I gotta save up first. Great work Dave!
Brush and a small pot for lubrication. Save pouring it all over the floor
Yes. Sloppy. Using a brush or (already gloved) finger saves money, time, and doesn't deliberately muck up the shop floor with fluids, unnecessarily.
David! Good morning and thumbs UP!!
Thanks
I think Harbor Freight sells a brake line stretcher if you cut it to short
Thanks for the tutorial, nice job!
Pure genius! Great video. God bless
Morning Dave nice video!
Very valuable info in this video Dave ...thanks!

Very helpful Dave. Do you know the brand of the high quality fittings? Great to see you back on you tube. 👍👌👌
There are a lot of different kinds just stay away from the Chinese ones
Thanks Dave. Will do 👍
Hey, can I use mechanics wire to make a guide for my brake line ? This way I can bend it and use it as a template...do you have a better idea
You can use pretty much anything that holds a shape
Something that works well is 1/8 solder. It holds shape well and can be reformed and reused easier than steel wire.
Great video, 👏👏👏
Thank you! 😃
Good job sir,l need the tools how can I get it
Just wondering who’s tube straightener you have?
10:41 I don't like to have loops like that where air can get trapped and be difficult to bleed.
Great vid. Much prefer a good interesting video instead of the shorts.
You have to do both unfortunately
I've had a difficult time reliably sourcing quality flare fittings, do you have any recommendations?

This one seems to work good I have had it for 4 years

@@P.R.Shriram Maybe GalferUSA or AGS
@@duaneafields thanks!
You shouldn't really have the pipes higher than the reservoir fluid level, it will be a pain to bleed.
It's not but even so if you vacuumed bleed a system you'll be good
I was thinking the same thing. Why?
@@dm-zx7xb if the fluid level drops below the level of the pipes it could put air in the system

Mine was a model x
@@Junkyard_Dave ok I wasn't sure what Kyle was needing and I didn't know what you had lol
I want that shirt, looks like a nitrous advertisement 😅
Take that same step drill and make that cheap fitting bevel a little deeper.
I'll check back in next year.. I'm taking a brake
Dave, can't help but notice that you have a golf, are you into vw's as well?
It's a friends

You're making SAE flares. Don't modern cars all come with DIN fittings now... 🤔
Dude, put some brake fluid in an empty contact lens cleaner bottle so you can drip it on the tubing!
Sure, but not all of us can afford the high dollar tools 😩😩😩
