Thank you so much for posting this and helping potential candidates. I started TSA 19 years ago so nothing was available. You have done a great job of describing the process. Good luck in your future career endeavors. Hope you put in for lead and go up the chain of command.
Thank you so much for the video. It is the most helpful one I have seen. I admit I have been putting off scheduling for the test because I am very nervous to take it. English never was my strong subject and I have been out of school for 6 years! So thank you for specifying what I need to brush up on.
They have vocabulary words where some of them I never knew or spoke of that you have to pick one of the words out of the answers they give you that is similar definitions to the word. Example: Happy= A. sad, B. angry, C. confused D. cheerful, but sometimes the words provided in the answers are complicated too. Some words you would not know the meaning too. If you fail you would have to wait 6 months to reapply, that's what happen to me so I failed. X-ray was not easy too.
Thanks for the video Kyle! I have my test on Friday this week and I'm trying to prepare as best as I can because I really want to take advantage of this opportunity, especially since my local airport is only hiring part-time, which is what I actually want. This gives me more confidence going in and hopefully the experience will remind me of when I took the ASVAB way back in 96 before graduating high school. I aced that test and had recruiters calling me for years, hopefully I can get the same result here.
Appreciate the help, I just scheduled my CBT coming up and just wanted at least to know if theres anything else? i've taken the asvab so i have an idea of what the vocab. is like.
Steven, I’ve been employed with TSA for a month now. After your CBT you will go do the interview, fingerprint and start the background check. Once that is complete you go and do your drug test vision and hearing which they pay for and is easy, Next orientation. Orientation consist of computer training and going over procedures. Each airport is different so depending on your airport you will go off to the Federal law Enforcement Training Center within 3 months of starting. There is a lot of SECURITY SENSITIVE INFORMATION with the process of TSA so we are limited on what we are allowed to share which you will come to understand as you go through the process.

If you have been hired and worked, do you like it? The airport I may be working at is a little over a hour away from where I live and I don't know if it would be worth the drive. I have heard that recently people are saying it isn't great.
That cannot be answered as all airports have different management and some can be shit while some can be the best people you ever work with. And the people you work with decides if the work is good or not. Besides that part it is repetitive work and it can be stressful, draining, and you will always be moving. If you are an active person this is no sweat then.
Thanks bro. Quick question though; is the English portions of the exam timed? I know you said you have an hour for the first part, but are the questions themselves timed? I’m asking because I just paid for a practice exam and one of the quizzes only gives me four mins to answer 10 questions, and these questions have pretty lengthy paragraphs.
So you say it give you 30sec and then shows suitcase and you have to identify. Will the object still be in the same position ? Or will I have to look sidesways to see it lol
I just passed. It’s not hard. Just read and do your best. Does anyone know the starting pay? I don’t wanna go through the process if it’s not good pay.
I just took the test right now and I have to say, I'm completely disappointed. The test was supposed to be 1 hour and 15 mins but I was actually 20 mins for the x-ray exam and 15 mins for the English test. I have to say that I'm positive that I passed the x-ray exam but the English exam...fucking hell man. On the first page, I did well, 2 pages last 2 questions I roughly guessed it because I was running out of time, and on the 3rd page, I just ran thru it the best I could really like it was 9 questions and I had 1 minute remaining said by the coordinator. If I had an extra 5 mins, I would be more confident. I'll be getting my results this week but I'm positive and confident that I failed but who knows but I wouldn't be surprised if I. But if I did pass, I would move on to the next step of a group interview and I highly doubt that...

IT'S NOT A BAD JOB BUT NOR IS IT A GOOD ONE, THEY DON'T PREPARE YOU AT ALL FOR THE EXAM AND EVEN FOR THE X-RAY EXAM UNLESS YOU CALL A 10 MINUTES STUDY WITH YOUR TRAINER "STUDYING" BUT THAT'S WHAT I GOT AND I GOT NOTHING BAD AGAINST THE SDM'S OR TRAINERS, BUT THEY REALLY REALLY REALLY COULD HAVE DONE BETTER. Don't just read the cover of the book, re through the pages.
I am in Texas and have some what of a clue what will be on the test. But I know every time I study for something its nothing like the test. Is there an app that will help? Its 2021 there's an app for everything right?
I just took the test yesterday. With zero test prep and I passed it on the first try. It is not that hard. The first part is a paragraph test. What does the paragraph best describe. What was the writer of the paragraph trying to say and its a multiple choice. Then there were some sentences to read. You have to determine if there are spelling errors, grammar, punctuation or no errors. Word reasoning is next. What word closely best resembles the test word. It's multiple choice. It was timed at 1 hour. I was finished with that section in about 30 minutes. Take your time, you wont need all of that time but if you want to just cruise that hour should be plenty of time. The Xray was easy. They give you 30 seconds to look at images. Say keys... Their will be 6 different keys to look at. Some on key chains and some not. But, the key to this is the color. Just look for the key shapes and that color within the xray and you will see whether the keys are there or not. There are some xray photos that are difficult but just give it your best shot. And so on with other objects. You will test on things like knives, shoes, calculators, cell phones, kitchen utensils and so on. Just study the images for the 30 seconds and their color before each section. You should be able to determine if the objects are there or not. You will have to act quickly because for each question you get , I think it was 10 seconds, so you will need your thinking cap. Just relax, take deep breaths and the test will be fine. I thought I was going to be stressed out of my mind and I wasn't. Just think common sense and you should all be able to prevail. I was home in about 20 minutes after the test and already had the email waiting when I walked in the door. Then the next step is to accept the conditional / contingent offer of employment and then the next phase begins. Good luck all. Again, just take your time, relax. I am a 51 year old guy. Been out of college a long time. You should be fine. You will have plenty of time. Sit up straight and don't let yourself get into a relaxed position. read the questions aloud, or whisper them to yourself, so you stay on task and not let your mind wonder. You will do fine..... Take care and good luck.
