Instead of puppet string you can use the Legion Arm that tosses decay goop. Then you can have both decay AND electricity elemental damage types. Melts bosses even on NG+!
I personally didn't really use acid weapons at all on my advance playthrough. I did try the spear blade against Laxasia but I still did less damage than with the black steel cutter blade. My two best combinations were the electric saw blade with the salamander dagger handle (almost exclusively using the strong attacks since those are slashing. Stacks up the passive really fast and does quite a lot of damage with very quick attacks. I melted Nameless puppet with it) and Black Steel Cutter with the Electric Saw handle. I noticed that it's actually reasonably fast with the black steel cutter and I really like the charge attacks. It also looks badass. The acidic curved sword handle and the electric coil handle seemed to work pretty well with it too tho.
Sally Blade on the Tyrant Murderer handle is like a fire poker gone crazy. Faster than the acidic spear for handles. R1 spam after a charged R2 for over 5 hits in 3 seconds=instant burn.
I have done some testing with the uncharged heavy attack of the dagger handle with the electric saw blade and it's both fast and strong. You just have to avoid the stabbing moves since the blade isn't a stab type. Since the saw blade has a ramp up mechanic that buffs it's lightning damage, I think it's best to put it on a weapon that hits as fast as possible.
Yeah, that was one of the best combinations I found. Used the dagger handle for like 90% of my advance playthrough first with electric coil and later with the saw.
they clash, you'll do less dmg since the coil is a slash type weapon while spears/daggers are "stab". so you get a dmg penalty. fine for early game, but not for later. altho I wish the game didn't have that restriction.
@@TimoNaaro the handle and blade have separate dmg type scalings, you can view them by press Y/Triangle a couple of times in the menu. if you see a "down" arrow at all when combined, then its losing damage somewhere, usually depending on the attack type (ex in the vid I said coil loses dmg on pokes with the GS handle, but all the slash hits dont have a penalty. in the person i replied to case, they're losing dmg on all hits because every hit is a stab attack)
@@dmd1598they are. Even just as the default setup, they feel good to use. Just be mindful what handles you put the blades on if you decide to mix and match.
I did an Advance build on my first playthrough and it was great. The only downside is that there's not a single boss weapon that scales with Advance (even with the crank they get D scaling which is useless). I had the Salamander Dagger blade on the Acidic Spear handle for good fire poke attacks and the Electric Chainsaw blade on the Coil Stick handle for fights with puppets. I also had the Black Steel Cutter blade + Acidic Curved Greatsword handle for easy parries on Simon Manus and Nameless Puppet. Didn't find much use for Acid damage however, or maybe I just didn't know which enemies are weak to it. I heard that Victor is weak to acid but haven't tested it myself to confirm. Also the grindstone that turns every block into a parry was a godsend for the last 3 main bosses. You can get the P-organ upgrade that increases the uses to 2 and Laxasia's 2nd phase becomes much much easier.
I don't level advance because nothing increases the rate at which you proc acid/elec/fire status. I would rather have a crank that increases both motivity and technique Slightly so I can do a quality build on handles that scale C in both. I usually run with acid spear or electric coil on a short sword handle so I get quick hard hitting attacks. Flamberge/fulminis with legion restore p organs makes for essentially infinite legion arm attacks. I also like using great bone saw blade on the police baton handle for fast regular and heavy and charge attacks. Fuck this game is good lol.
Never tested it but I assumed how fast status effects proc depends on the acid/fire/electric damage you deal and since advance increases that damage it would proc faster.
The acidic spear is very annoying to use later on. You have to respec all your p-organs to reach optimal dps because it uses effect-based fable arts instead of offensive ones.
What is the max scaling for the Electric Coil Stick handle. I upgraded from B to A already. But If want to put 2 more advance cranks on it, the preview still shows A instead of S. While the Acidic Spear Handle for example would go from a A to an S?
I've had some fun putting the Acidic Crystal Spear blade onto the Pistol Rock Drill handle as the handle does just piercing dmg and it can hit multiple times quickly as well with either it's charge or handle FA.
yah thats a good combo. too bad the enemies rarely let you breath to really soak in that charged r2 long u.u pretty good with specter pulling aggro tho! when trying that out with crit dagger, it seems a lot of bosses have like 160-190 degree attacks so you can't even safely attack from behind too much, or they attack specter and move out of range. def most dps you can do if you can pull it off long (and FA is really good by itself, which is a nice 5 bar combo with spear/dagger then the handle rapid poke). vs humans tho its kinda bad since they hop away often after getting hit 1-2 times.
Booster glaive in the cathedral sucks. Use the fire poke instead. Plus the weapon is slow and at early level you can only swing it twice. Not to mention there’s too many tight places where it just hits the wall because of how narrow the whole level is
How are you staying under weight with only 26 capacity, and that gear loadout? 7:44 Is that a NG+ Carrier's Amulet or something? *Edit NM, I see there's a +1 version behind 4th trinity door.
i love that the non-elemental grinders can be used with advanced builds interesting weapon progression, i definitely went a different route my biggest gripe with going advance is no advanced scaling boss weapons, but my advance build was so fun, by the end i didn't even mind, black steel blade is insane for the rest of the game just started NG+ and will try the black steel blade on the acid greatsword handle, though also thinking of trying your double dragon build since auto-guarding isn't really something i need help with

1. 15 vit, 15 vig, capacity 15-20, and advance to 15. 2. then I raise vit to 20. then alternate between raising cap and adv to 25-30. 3. around chapter 8 or 10 i get to 25 vit. reach cap in vid, then advance is last. from the video levels onward, get vit and vig to 30, and whatever else is up to you
its so sad about the acidic curved great sword, it has my favorite move set and I just love the look of it, but yeah I'm on lvv 260 with all needed softcaps and I just cant make the weapon work
I’m in NG++ on my motivity/advance build, and I have to say, I think electric coil head + acidic great curved sword handle is far superior to chainsaw + pickaxe That combo gives absolute defense fable art, A scaling in advance (with advance crank) and most importantly, generate fable art. The mechanic where elemental damage stacks logarithmically with itself once the effect is procced means the blades with innate element buffs are far better if compared to split damage weps. Those can’t be buffed with elemental abrasives, and fable art buffs are much easier and faster to use. I have basically permanent uptime on generate. Factor all this into the additional boon of the attacks being much faster and not using nearly as much stamina, and I think that’s as close to optimal as it gets. I swapped some stuff around to try your chainsaw setup, but it doesn’t seem nearly as good dps-wise nor as fast. Particularly considering many of the hardest bosses (king of puppets, laxasia) are extremely punishing for the slower motivity handles. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I’m not seeing this being better tbh This is a huge part of why acidic crystal spear is so good, too. S scaling advance + 30 advance + Radiate fable art = 12k+ damage ticks easily in under a minute without factoring legion arts, grindstones, or throwables at all, even on enemies not innately weak to acid. Acid also debuffs defense. This is also without investing in motivity past like 25ish and without the multiple damage amulets you use. This is an almost purely tanky build using iron wall amulet, patience, and a single enemy type damage amulet alongside carrying +1. This single weapon easily destroys NG+2 king of puppets in like 100 seconds lol, and you can face tank stuff and trade with guard regain p-organ slots, and later perfect guard grindstone/fury guard Black steel cutter with acid greatsword handle does seem like a bar tho, tho I haven’t needed absolute defense on that wep through 3 playthroughs so far personally, bc that wep is already so busted lol. But if you’re in NG and only have the one handle, you would probably have to swap accordingly, or just keep greatsword of fate on coil, which I’m also not crazy about generally
yah coil is very strong with the buff, perhaps you're right since even at the start with GS handle it was very easy killing the bots early game. But since i had acid on steel cutter already tho, I just went unga bunga for saw and don't want to be swapping handles back and forth. I didn't have much trouble with using saw tho, by time you get the saw, puppet bosses became non-existent, so I just used saw+explo to pancake every dude who was not a monster lol in that particular case where I wouldn't be using fable arts often, I would argue its superior to that coil setup, least in that "normal gameplay" clearing role, 1 or two shotting normal bots, and pancaking the rest for easy viscerals. the builds i make are primarily for a ng run, ng+ where early bot bosses get introduced, coil probably one ups saw. ofc if you can parry good then perfect block isn't that needed and you can play around a bit with other handles, but likewise I make builds for the average or below average player where skill takes a back seat. I just want people to beat the game comfortably.
So I continued playing around with your saw setup the rest of the night to see it perform in a variety of midgame situations just to see for myself, and I think I concluded basically what you’re saying here. I love strength weapons in soulsbornes/likes, so chainsaw and pickaxe were two weps I actually tried to use the first time around on my ng run, but I tried to main them, and they’re better for running levels than bosses. As usual, both of those things excel in what strength weapons are good at, namely stagger damage. Charge atk p-organ buffs + puppet string + conserve energy fable art = tons and tons of burst stagger damage. This can keep elites stunlocked, and I think is the real strength of the chainsaw setup. Conserve energy in particular really helps this shine, bc it uses sooo much stamina lol. Even then, you really need quite a bit of stamina investment to be able to use it effectively, (I’m sitting at 183 stamina and running patience amulet and I still run out with conserve energy if I’m not careful) especially if you factor in dash/dodge attacks, guards, and parries. I think that for bosses, especially faster bosses, coil shines, but for normal gameplay chainsaw is alright. There are one or two exceptions, however. The speed of motivity handles really struggled on faster elites. I had much greater success on the jester puppet elite with coil, for example. But there are also only two of those in the game. So overall I think chainsaw is acceptable for running levels (and more fun) but coil might be the better choice for faster elites or bosses. Also, as this is an advance build, it’s best to prioritize statuses. I like stacking status effects in rpgs, and it works in this game, too. Like acid + fire gives defense debuff and double DoT ticks. This is some crazy burst potential, but also means you have to prioritize advance for the most elemental damage the fastest. For this reason I think coil ekes out another victory due to the advance scaling and speed/consistency of attacks. Or you could just use throwing cells and whatnot I suppose @Demonicinfinity I do just use the spear handle. I’ve heard people say the spear is terrible generally, but that hasn’t been my experience at all. In fact it’s so good that it hard carries through many of the strongest enemies and bosses, even if they don’t have an acid weakness. And if they do? It all but trivializes Laxasia lol. And good luck using the other two acid weps on her, as they’re very slow and don’t have innate acid buffs. I had thought about throwing greatsword of fate on spear for absolute defense, as the r1-r2-r1 combo is a thrust series, but the charged r2s are slash attacks, and it’s much slower, and you lose the all-important S scaling in advance, so I just stick with the regular handle typically. Plus bc of the crazy speed and dps of the acid buff with radiate on near-permanent uptime you can stagger enemies very very quickly with it, even tho it’s a dex wep. So I found that going all offensive on it is better, anyway. If you struggle with that you can always use perfect guard grindstone with special effect uptime + more grindstone uses p-organ buffs, tho that will be fairly lategame in ng. Otherwise you can have an offhand with perfect guard to swap to like coil+greatsword of fate or black steel cutter+acidic greatsword
their life bars get kinda nutty, hence i put more focus into stagger weapons/handles since fatal attack will shave off a good chunk. I've seen spear hold up even in ng+3 against lax tho so should be fine there.
yeah dont think they thought out ng+ and higher play throughs same weapons no +1 or w/e on the weapons and the damage dont scale on the one in each playthrough@@PWARGaming
you just go to nexus mods, pick what you like, download the pak file, then go into the lies of p folder in steam apps, and then make a new mod folder in the pak folder, and boom. some mods on the site will show you instructions better then me, altho you have to make a free account on there to download the mod. i just have throwaway gmails I do that junk on and never had a bad mod installed
Currently over half way through my NG + playthrough with the following stats: 30 vit 30 vig 38 cap 15 mot 40 tech 40 adv At what point would you recommend swapping advanced handles to motivity?
i would switch tech and motivity with each other yah. and put the rest of the points into life or vig. if you plan to go to ng+2 you get a 7th phase that reduces your weight load and lets you block red attacks (7th phase is the max). so can maybe save some points from capacity into something else.

What a bizarre guide. You'd do more damage with the extra element damage from Advance scaling while exploiting the appropriate weakness. I guarantee your kill time against Carcasses would decrease dramatically with the Salamander Dagger blade and either its handle or the Acidic Crystal Spear handle. Charged R2 attacks are great, sure, but with high-scaling Advance weapons, you end up killing enemies before they even GET staggerable just by rushing them down. Especially with the elemental buff from the Electric Coil Stick/Salamander Dagger/Acidic Crystal Spear head Fable Arts. The greatsword handle art IS awesome, but certainly you'd be better off just doing a motivity build with elemental grindstones against elites and bosses if that's your strategy.
Great video! Only issue I have is throwing items over and over is so boring. No skill involved. I like feeling like I'm doing something that takes a little skill . I don't mind throwing an item once in a while. Just to change it up .
really? :o hmm first time ever hearing that. seems like it would be tough to do on 1 playthrough with the limited cranks you get, and going to S on 1 cost 2 cranks. if possible tho that's cool, means the exploding pickaxe one can straight up surpass the base electric saw now comfortably.
At least....alst I checked it can. Might need bonus cranks, but I remember specifically that I could bring a Motivity weapon from B to A to S using 3 total cranks.@@PWARGaming

I was so hyped to use it since it reminds me of acidic glavenus from monster hunter, but then it ended up being kinda meh. I think all the buff weapons should cost like 2 bars, 3 is too much for something you would have to apply often or else lose out on the whole reason of using them. meanwhile something like acidic spear or coil get ultra ele buff with just 2 bars...

I beat the 3 final bosses with those 2 weapons and I'm heading into NG+ are those 2 weapons still viable?

Human are weak to acid. Zombies to fire, Puppets to electricity.

I swapped some stuff around to try your chainsaw setup, but it doesn’t seem nearly as good dps-wise nor as fast. Particularly considering many of the hardest bosses (king of puppets, laxasia) are extremely punishing for the slower motivity handles. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I’m not seeing this being better tbh
This is a huge part of why acidic crystal spear is so good, too. S scaling advance + 30 advance + Radiate fable art = 12k+ damage ticks easily in under a minute without factoring legion arts, grindstones, or throwables at all, even on enemies not innately weak to acid. Acid also debuffs defense. This is also without investing in motivity past like 25ish and without the multiple damage amulets you use. This is an almost purely tanky build using iron wall amulet, patience, and a single enemy type damage amulet alongside carrying +1. This single weapon easily destroys NG+2 king of puppets in like 100 seconds lol, and you can face tank stuff and trade with guard regain p-organ slots, and later perfect guard grindstone/fury guard
Black steel cutter with acid greatsword handle does seem like a bar tho, tho I haven’t needed absolute defense on that wep through 3 playthroughs so far personally, bc that wep is already so busted lol. But if you’re in NG and only have the one handle, you would probably have to swap accordingly, or just keep greatsword of fate on coil, which I’m also not crazy about generally

yah coil is very strong with the buff, perhaps you're right since even at the start with GS handle it was very easy killing the bots early game. But since i had acid on steel cutter already tho, I just went unga bunga for saw and don't want to be swapping handles back and forth.
I didn't have much trouble with using saw tho, by time you get the saw, puppet bosses became non-existent, so I just used saw+explo to pancake every dude who was not a monster lol in that particular case where I wouldn't be using fable arts often, I would argue its superior to that coil setup, least in that "normal gameplay" clearing role, 1 or two shotting normal bots, and pancaking the rest for easy viscerals. the builds i make are primarily for a ng run, ng+ where early bot bosses get introduced, coil probably one ups saw. ofc if you can parry good then perfect block isn't that needed and you can play around a bit with other handles, but likewise I make builds for the average or below average player where skill takes a back seat. I just want people to beat the game comfortably.
So I continued playing around with your saw setup the rest of the night to see it perform in a variety of midgame situations just to see for myself, and I think I concluded basically what you’re saying here. I love strength weapons in soulsbornes/likes, so chainsaw and pickaxe were two weps I actually tried to use the first time around on my ng run, but I tried to main them, and they’re better for running levels than bosses. As usual, both of those things excel in what strength weapons are good at, namely stagger damage. Charge atk p-organ buffs + puppet string + conserve energy fable art = tons and tons of burst stagger damage. This can keep elites stunlocked, and I think is the real strength of the chainsaw setup. Conserve energy in particular really helps this shine, bc it uses sooo much stamina lol. Even then, you really need quite a bit of stamina investment to be able to use it effectively, (I’m sitting at 183 stamina and running patience amulet and I still run out with conserve energy if I’m not careful) especially if you factor in dash/dodge attacks, guards, and parries. I think that for bosses, especially faster bosses, coil shines, but for normal gameplay chainsaw is alright. There are one or two exceptions, however. The speed of motivity handles really struggled on faster elites. I had much greater success on the jester puppet elite with coil, for example. But there are also only two of those in the game. So overall I think chainsaw is acceptable for running levels (and more fun) but coil might be the better choice for faster elites or bosses. Also, as this is an advance build, it’s best to prioritize statuses. I like stacking status effects in rpgs, and it works in this game, too. Like acid + fire gives defense debuff and double DoT ticks. This is some crazy burst potential, but also means you have to prioritize advance for the most elemental damage the fastest. For this reason I think coil ekes out another victory due to the advance scaling and speed/consistency of attacks. Or you could just use throwing cells and whatnot I suppose
@Demonicinfinity I do just use the spear handle. I’ve heard people say the spear is terrible generally, but that hasn’t been my experience at all. In fact it’s so good that it hard carries through many of the strongest enemies and bosses, even if they don’t have an acid weakness. And if they do? It all but trivializes Laxasia lol. And good luck using the other two acid weps on her, as they’re very slow and don’t have innate acid buffs. I had thought about throwing greatsword of fate on spear for absolute defense, as the r1-r2-r1 combo is a thrust series, but the charged r2s are slash attacks, and it’s much slower, and you lose the all-important S scaling in advance, so I just stick with the regular handle typically. Plus bc of the crazy speed and dps of the acid buff with radiate on near-permanent uptime you can stagger enemies very very quickly with it, even tho it’s a dex wep. So I found that going all offensive on it is better, anyway. If you struggle with that you can always use perfect guard grindstone with special effect uptime + more grindstone uses p-organ buffs, tho that will be fairly lategame in ng. Otherwise you can have an offhand with perfect guard to swap to like coil+greatsword of fate or black steel cutter+acidic greatsword

Just got into ng+ will trx this build,cuz the enemy and boss scaling is just insane
their life bars get kinda nutty, hence i put more focus into stagger weapons/handles since fatal attack will shave off a good chunk. I've seen spear hold up even in ng+3 against lax tho so should be fine there.
yeah dont think they thought out ng+ and higher play throughs same weapons no +1 or w/e on the weapons and the damage dont scale on the one in each playthrough@@PWARGaming

Heavy weapons are not good for bosses and in many situations. The saw is worse than the baton. They force you to be very aggressive.
Exactly why I put mjolnir on the bramble handle for motivity build. Better speed and still does a ton of dmg. Plus I love the jumping charged heavy.

you just go to nexus mods, pick what you like, download the pak file, then go into the lies of p folder in steam apps, and then make a new mod folder in the pak folder, and boom. some mods on the site will show you instructions better then me, altho you have to make a free account on there to download the mod. i just have throwaway gmails I do that junk on and never had a bad mod installed

At what point would you recommend swapping advanced handles to motivity?
i would switch tech and motivity with each other yah. and put the rest of the points into life or vig. if you plan to go to ng+2 you get a 7th phase that reduces your weight load and lets you block red attacks (7th phase is the max). so can maybe save some points from capacity into something else.

What a bizarre guide. You'd do more damage with the extra element damage from Advance scaling while exploiting the appropriate weakness. I guarantee your kill time against Carcasses would decrease dramatically with the Salamander Dagger blade and either its handle or the Acidic Crystal Spear handle. Charged R2 attacks are great, sure, but with high-scaling Advance weapons, you end up killing enemies before they even GET staggerable just by rushing them down. Especially with the elemental buff from the Electric Coil Stick/Salamander Dagger/Acidic Crystal Spear head Fable Arts.
The greatsword handle art IS awesome, but certainly you'd be better off just doing a motivity build with elemental grindstones against elites and bosses if that's your strategy.

really? :o hmm first time ever hearing that. seems like it would be tough to do on 1 playthrough with the limited cranks you get, and going to S on 1 cost 2 cranks. if possible tho that's cool, means the exploding pickaxe one can straight up surpass the base electric saw now comfortably.

I was so hyped to use it since it reminds me of acidic glavenus from monster hunter, but then it ended up being kinda meh. I think all the buff weapons should cost like 2 bars, 3 is too much for something you would have to apply often or else lose out on the whole reason of using them. meanwhile something like acidic spear or coil get ultra ele buff with just 2 bars...
