The Wii was my first game console. I wasn't much of a gamer as a kid, I played the occasional game on PC but I was extremly casual and prefered watching movies and read comics. But when I bought the wii as a 15 year old turned me into a hardcore gamer as it made me want to play Mario galaxy after hearing so many good things about it. It lead me to start playing wind waker, Super Mario 64, Ocarina of time, Twlight princess and so on. And now I'm sitting here 13 years later with 6 game consoles, 5 handhelds and just a few months ago, I upgraded my PC gaming rig and it's all thanks to that. My wii itself felt like it was on life support but I didn't want to throw it away because it means so much not just to me but to my entire family. TBH, I'm sitting here with feeling a bit misty eyed because I never realized how much the wii meant to me and it feels kind of ridicolus being emotional over a games console but I don't feel shame for it either.
If you have the original Wii, you can use it not only as a Wii, but a GameCube. It is also a homebrew beast and is great for running emulators. So you made the right choice of keeping it if you have an original one, but it is still fairly useful if you have any of the other models.

Awful console and awful games. The only reason why I ended up getting a Nintendo Wii was after it was hacked and mod chips were made available for it. I do that with every Nintendo console. I have made thousands of dollars off of my modified Wii.
@Brendan Lewis well I recommend getting some of the great games like Pandora's Tower, Last Story, Conduit 1 and 2, No More Heroes 1 and 2, Mad World, Sin and Punishment, Punch Out etc etc.
@Brendan Lewis Fire Emblem is on the Wii too. It's a great console and deserves to be known for more than just a shovel shovelware machine as there's a lot of actual great games on the Wii.
Same. I feel sad I could't experience Wii during its glorious days, but certainly it is an impressive experience even after all those years. It can be weaker than the X360 and PS3 but it had way more innovative ways to bring fun to the player.
I never owned a regular Wii, but did get a Wii U. Nevertheless, I have always felt that the Wii is probably the most important console in the last 20+ years. It not only allowed for more people to get into gaming it also popularized the idea of motion controls. I don’t think the VR scene would be moving forward as fast if it wasn’t for the Wii.

Search up wiimmfi and go to the website, there is a guide there. Mario kart wii is always active with hundreds online at once
There are some wii sensor bars that don’t need to be plugged into the Wii, it just runs on batteries, no cords, because the sensor bar is just a light that the wiimote looks for. You should definitely get one if you leave in some spots sometimes
The Wii had some pretty awesome games if you knew what to look for! Some of my favorites include Xenoblade, The Last Story, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Skyward Sword, Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, and Zak & Wiki. I also enjoyed Red Steel, even though the first game got quite a bit of hate (the sequel is supposed to be a lot better though).
I had fun when I had the wii when it was new and in its life cycle, now I just emulate wii and gamecube games on my iPhone and play new releases on switch.
I like it how a couple days before this i checked out MVG's video on the Wii U which made me want to mod and now I see a video with somebody else in the same situation
Actually now is the best time EVER to get a Wii U. They are redicolously cheap now. You can hack them quite easy. And this makes em the "perfect" Nintendo console. Sd Gundam Gashapon Wars. Its a gamecube game that got an enhanced Wii port. It was made by the smash bros team and is both a simple strategy game as well as a fun arena brawler.
WTF? WiiU is not a Wii model. It's like saying that PS3 is another PS2. You didn't say that 3DS is just a DS model in your DS video. Name the video differently, because it's not "Where to Start: Nintendo Wii".
Use some logic. If you want to start playing Wii games, the Wii U is a perfectly reasonable place to start playing Wii games which is why he included it. Your PS example holds no water because not all PS3 models are back-compat with PS2, though if he did make a video of this topic, he would surely include the fat launch PS3 as it is almost fully back-compat.
So the Wii u doesn't have backwards compatibility with the wii? Because that's what you're saying. Wii u is a legitimate way to play Wii games, so for the purposes of this video, it's worth bringing up
A modded wii is amazing for playing most of nintendo's back catalog, but something important to note is that you need an sd card of decent size to do so (16 or 32 gb should be fine). Luckily everything surrrounding the wii is so cheap and easily accesible that you wont have to worry about it. Seriously, softmodding a wii is piss easy
sepu It really is. I'm clueless as fuck when it comes to computers and even I said "well THAT was fucking simple" and now I have a kickass emulation box.
It also was my first console. I just played PC before I got it. I still play Mario Kart Wii ans Wii Sports. And TF2 and Gmod on PC. It sucks that Nintendo wants you to forget about it.
Wii Classic Controller has analog shoulder buttons which is helpful to play some Gamecube games that require analog input on Wii or WiiU. Classic Controller Pro doesn't have analog shoulder buttons.
great video. But I don't agree with your opinion of the wii wheel. in games like Mario Kart, or excite bots, it makes a difference holding an actual wheel than the actual remote, at least it does for me and I love the accessory.
I would love to experience the nintendo wii after I get to play all the games I wanna play on the Nintendo 3ds. I feel like I've missed alot during my childhood if I didn't get to experience these games and consoles
I have the standard Wii, but still opt for emulator for better display output and resolution, and the fact that I don't have a TV with analog input makes using the console difficult. With emulator, however, I get full motion control and any controller I want.
Imo the wii u is the best wii cuz hdmi is build in so no digital to analoge to digital conversion yes you can mod a wii to have hdmi but mod is nothing for beginners and buying a premodded one will mostly cost more then just buying a wii u plus wii u has aditional games soo tbh if u don't want to play on a crt get a wii u
But more and more people are just hacking the original Wii because the Wii u was left on a garbage firmware update and crashes with external hard drives connected
Definitely mod the Wii U. It’s also pretty easy to do, and super convenient! I spent about a week ripping all my Wii U game discs (already did GC and Wii), and then installed them on a 128GB SD card in a tiny USB reader plugged into the back USB ports. Now I have my whole collection ready to go, and sometimes bring my Wii U to events for quick multiplayer fun. Never have to worry about picking the right games to bring, or having them get lost or damaged. It’s the DRM-free dream! I wish all the consoles were as easy and rewarding to homebrew as the Wii, Wii U, and PSP/Vita. From a QOL perspective it’s easily ten times better than stock before you even consider the whole world of homebrew software it opens up.
My Wii sits in a bin in the closet. Looking to sell it or gift it away. It is the Black one with GC support. I like having a Wii U and Gamecube with the GBA player and Component Cables. All set with that.
I have a black Wii with GC support as well, and I live in the US. It's just that not too long after the alternative color Wiis came out they started coming out with GC-less Wiis so there aren't as many black GC-compatible Wiis. In Japan they never took out the GC functionality. If you wanna be sure you're getting a Wii with GC support, red wiis are your best bet. They never came out in GC-less versions and they're some of the best models with better video output and no overheating issues with standby mode.
The Wii is fantastic to play games on but I cannot find the GameCube memory thing. Also as of lately it is getting pretty rough to find Wii games that focused on Japanese games just a lot of shovewere games
Last Story, Xenoblade Chronicles, Pandora's Tower, Sin and Punishment, Mad World, No More Heroes 1 and 2, Capcom vs Tatsunoko what you talking about dude?
You're better off getting a CRT TV as the Wii can only output 480p and putting it on a LED/LCD or OLED TV that supports AV will hurt your eyes, it's best just to use a CRT TV, but if you do want to hook it up to LED/LCD/OLED TV then grab the Wii to HDMI adapter, as it can upscale resolution to either 720p or 1080p.
Not really! Everything before the Wii required hardware mods to do all the fun stuff the Wii can do with softmods. Its exceptionally easy compared to just about every console out there.
Good video all I have to say is the Wii U is the successor to the Wii it's not another Wii model they're two separate consoles. It's due to lack of knowledge and terrible marketing that made the system flop before making a video do research so you won't sound like a idiot
"Where to Start" on how horrendously awful this console was? Firstly, its main gimmick - motion controls. They NEVER worked for me, always being extremely inaccurate - misreading inputs, the pointer always being tilted to either side, the pointer spazzing about or constantly flickering...I always had mountains of issues getting the godawful thing to even barely work, even with a MotionPlus controller or after "recalibration". Nintendo could have made the Classic Controller or GameCube controller a universal backup option, but _nope_ - Wiimote is king, unfortunately. Second, since most of its games relied on the nonfunctional motion controls, that also meant most of its games DID NOT WORK. If I could have, I'd have sued Nintendo for having the nerve to put a dysfunctional product on store shelves - that's how all-conumingly bad it was. Skyward Sword? Barely playable. Wii Sports? Irrevocably broken. Pikmin and Metroid Prime? The GameCube originals were far superior. There's only THREE games I enjoy on the Wii, and all of them barely use motion - Twilight Princess (which allows you to turn the pointer OFF, treats any motion as a B button for sword swings, and is a fantastic traditional Legend of Zelda game to boot - unlike Skyward Sword or Breath of the Wild), Super Paper Mario (rarely uses the pointer, and only does so for a few seconds each time), and best of all Super Smash Bros. Brawl (which flat-out doesn't use motion at all). Everything else is trash. There's NO reason for anyone to even touch this god-forsaken pile of garbage, now that the Wii U was a thing - inherently superior in every way, due to all but murdering the stupid gimmick and having superior controllers, having a better GUI, and having more interesting and enjoyable-to-play games (including DS Virtual Console).
@@PoutingTrevor I have multiple Wiimotes, both MotionPlus and regular. None of them worked - no matter which one I used, no matter where the sensor bar was or how close/far from it I was, no matter how many times I "recalibrated" the damn things, NOTHING worked. The Wii is Nintendo's WORST console - the Virtual Boy would have been more comfortable to use, no doubt.
I've also got a number of Wii remotes, including Wii Motion Plus. I still use my Wii as an emulation station, and I have a Wii U too. I genuinely have never had the issues you've described, and whilst I'm aware that the original remotes were less accurate than later models, they still so the job. I'm actually still very much in awe of the Wii remotes design. I think they're fantastic.
@@PoutingTrevor Well, I don't know what's wrong with my Wii, but the only time I had fun with it was when I was playing Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario, or Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Anything that required frequent pointer or movement usage - say, Super Mario Galaxy, the home menu and pause screen, Skyward Sword, Wii Sports, and more - was absolute torture to play, leaving me incredibly bitter about the console. Forcibly-mandatory motion controls are just guaranteed to be divisive, it seems, and this is just another way they're inherently inferior to traditional controllers. I'm just glad the Switch isn't a "Wii 2", and thus force motion into a majority of its games via the JoyCons.
@@PokeMaster22222 Well the Wii U was Wii 2, and it didn't do so well, but that had little to do with motion controls, although they're not completely blameless. There were a lot of people who couldn't get to grips with the Wii remotes, and the perception was that they weren't accurate and were hard to play with. But the Switch does have a lot of games where motion controls are mandatory, like in Super Mario Party, and some of the moves in Mario Odyssey. I wouldn't say the joycons are any more accurate than a Wii Motion Plus remote, but they're certainly nowhere near as versatile or comfortable to use.

Sd Gundam Gashapon Wars. Its a gamecube game that got an enhanced Wii port. It was made by the smash bros team and is both a simple strategy game as well as a fun arena brawler.
The first game console I've ever played and had.. oh the memories..
cant wait for the "where to start: nintendo switch" in 2031 since yall be reviewing consoles 14 years after launch
Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Super Paper Mario, Return to Dreamland, and Metroid Prime Trilogy. That's where you start.
I have a black Wii with a 32gb sd with all my homebrew apps and stuff and i also have 2 USB flash drives I use for emulators and Roms
You can also use the gc controller adapter on the wii without gc ports .
I got wii 2 times. Both are sold, but I am getting one this year again 😅
Don't sell it again 😂
I love my Wii, can you make a video on R4 cards and their clones?
It also was my first console. I just played PC before I got it. I still play Mario Kart Wii ans Wii Sports. And TF2 and Gmod on PC. It sucks that Nintendo wants you to forget about it.
Wii Classic Controller has analog shoulder buttons which is helpful to play some Gamecube games that require analog input on Wii or WiiU. Classic Controller Pro doesn't have analog shoulder buttons.
Wiimmfi is pronounced "Weem-fai", just letting you know for the future.
No it's not.
No
No, it's pronounced wiimmfi
great video. But I don't agree with your opinion of the wii wheel. in games like Mario Kart, or excite bots, it makes a difference holding an actual wheel than the actual remote, at least it does for me and I love the accessory.
The wii was fantastic as a kid
I would love to experience the nintendo wii after I get to play all the games I wanna play on the Nintendo 3ds. I feel like I've missed alot during my childhood if I didn't get to experience these games and consoles
I have the standard Wii, but still opt for emulator for better display output and resolution, and the fact that I don't have a TV with analog input makes using the console difficult. With emulator, however, I get full motion control and any controller I want.
I have 100s of Wii games. The Wii was truly a great system.
I totally forgot that the Wii was compatible with GC games! Never made use of it because I already owned a Gamecube.
That Timming
You forgot to mention the NES classic and SNES classic controller are compatible with the Wii.
I never used a wii, how many games can you play using a regular style controller or are they all meant to be played with motion control only ?
Me opens wii:hmmm let me play Mii channel I need a new character me opens Mii channel me sees ETELED Me: OMGGG
I heard that you can subsitute the sensor bar with a candle or some other light source.
Even the sun works, you just need infrared lights
If you have a wii you should softmod it you won't be disappointed.
agreed
I love the wii
Wii was my life 😔
But more and more people are just hacking the original Wii because the Wii u was left on a garbage firmware update and crashes with external hard drives connected
Tell me why my most memorable Wii accessory was the gun?
What if its a black one with rvl001 and its black guys cmon help me
I had a wii mini but it got spoilt before I could even use it
Danke für das geile Video aber nichts schlägt den Gamecube:)
The Wii is my childhood
Ah yes, the Italian console. 🇮🇹
Wii wii!!
I love the series name
Question: how do you play gamecube games on wii? Do you just put the minidisc into the disc drive?
@Brendan Lewis Thanks!
Bought a new Wii red from Japan a week ago
Dudes get a first gen wii, mod it, get component cables and play GC isos in 480p natively
I need to learn how to mod, so I can jam a SOAC GameCube/GameCube compatibility onto a Wii mini. It looks so damn cool, but it's so useless
My tv dose not have a yellow outlet
Hi, whats the name of the adapter to hdmi? Is that adapter the one you use for capture those footage from wii games? Ty!
Eladio Brr Wii2HDMI
New Address thanks!
I have a black Wii with GC support, looks like it's limited to PAL regions
I have a black Wii with GC support as well, and I live in the US. It's just that not too long after the alternative color Wiis came out they started coming out with GC-less Wiis so there aren't as many black GC-compatible Wiis. In Japan they never took out the GC functionality.
If you wanna be sure you're getting a Wii with GC support, red wiis are your best bet. They never came out in GC-less versions and they're some of the best models with better video output and no overheating issues with standby mode.
Just emulate.
it is fun
Where should I get a wii
In case anyone is curious about all the best the original Wii had to offer:
ua-cam.com/play/PLZrviRQSpZme5Set-pE7VBWwIHn859saV.html
The Wii is fantastic to play games on but I cannot find the GameCube memory thing. Also as of lately it is getting pretty rough to find Wii games that focused on Japanese games just a lot of shovewere games
The Japanese games on Wii were awesome. It had loads of great games, not just shovleware!
Last Story, Xenoblade Chronicles, Pandora's Tower, Sin and Punishment, Mad World, No More Heroes 1 and 2, Capcom vs Tatsunoko what you talking about dude?
David T well I cannot find those at my local GameStop
@@deathwizard1996 go online.
David T I usually put warranty on my video games but sure I’ll buy it online
What kinda TV does the Wii look best on?
You're better off getting a CRT TV as the Wii can only output 480p and putting it on a LED/LCD or OLED TV that supports AV will hurt your eyes, it's best just to use a CRT TV, but if you do want to hook it up to LED/LCD/OLED TV then grab the Wii to HDMI adapter, as it can upscale resolution to either 720p or 1080p.
cant wait for the "where to start: nintendo switch" in 2034
Wii u all the way
Could have used this 14 years ago
Just use dolphin, a free Wii and GameCube emulator. It's great!
STOP DOING THE WII!!!
Lmao well no online or component out aren't that big a deal with no wii store
Call of Duty servers are still up so uhhhh yeah...
Anyone down for Black Ops or MW3?
I don‘t like the Wii. I LOVE the wii. I collected the shit out of it.
Every console is easy to mod
Not really! Everything before the Wii required hardware mods to do all the fun stuff the Wii can do with softmods. Its exceptionally easy compared to just about every console out there.
@@SuperFirstSecond forgot to add now a days to the end of the comment lol
Good video all I have to say is the Wii U is the successor to the Wii it's not another Wii model they're two separate consoles. It's due to lack of knowledge and terrible marketing that made the system flop before making a video do research so you won't sound like a idiot
Like if u want skyward sword remake on switch
I think your Wii remote was broken...
