Tiger Woods makes his season debut as the PGA TOUR plays its first official event in Japan at the inaugural ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP. Woods is back in action after a knee operation, just weeks before he leads the U.S. Team at the Presidents Cup in Australia. Reigning FedExCup champion Rory McIlroy, along with former FedExCup champions Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth and local star Hideki Matsuyama join the field at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club. This is McIlroy's first PGA TOUR start since his victory at the TOUR Championship in August where he won the FedExCup and was named Player of the Year. Can he get off to a winning start in Japan?

Enjoy this guy while we can. He's got 10 good years left in him. He'll be good for 92 wins and 19 majors is my opinion.Thought the current tour players were better than they are. None of them can stand up to this guy when he's on. Yes even including KOEPKA (See 2019 Masters). He's also McIlroy's daddy.

    • @UCIBME

Father Time wasn't in attendance just for he who'd established his indisputable greatness and destined with his 82nd win to embellish the legend; he was there for all of us.
There've been louder crowd Tiger roars: much, much louder. But these will do and fabulous to hear again. How many more times? Doesn't matter. We've heard it again and may well do so again even if not so regularly.

What's even more impressive about this victory is that Tiger hadn't played competitive golf in over two months. So coming off a layoff that long the golfing world didn't know what Tiger they were going to see. This tells me he's learning how to manage his new schedule and the breaks he'll have between tournaments in order to let his body recover. He knows he can't play every week nor bomb it like he used to so now it's about fine tuning the way he now has to play. A phenomenal player who continues to amaze despite all the setbacks, criticism, and naysayers.

I can't believe you thought his iron shots were heavy, but maybe they were. He simply has such an impeccable iron game. I do remember him hitting a heavy one, but golf is too damn hard to be that analytical of his iron play when it's clearly his strongest suit including putting and chipping xD

his iron game in the last round of the 2018 pga was incredible and a lot better than here, but still it was not bad by any means it's just that he is Tiger and thus it's already surprising to see him hit a few irons that are the slightest bit heavy, I still remember i have had 2 iron shots in my lifetime which were a bit heavy but both turned out great, it's that fine grade where you don't strike it perfectly and thus the reduced spin makes up the distance you lose and so the result isn't that much different, that's what I suspect happened here too.

Tiger’s swing had such wonderful tempo this week. I don’t think the club got stuck behind him on one shot. He looked so effortless swinging through the ball. He looks healthy and it will be fun watching him this season.

Tiger made makings cuts, moving day, clutch putts & winning something all future good golfers would ‘inherit’. What a shock to the new generation how incredibly hard it is.

I think he won the tournament because he drove the ball well, his irons were crisp, and he putted really well. I'm just guessing here.

Winning First tournament after knee surgery,
Winning the tour championship and the masters after a spinal fusion.
Like come on guys, yeah jack has more majors but Tiger literally reinvents himself year after year.

Tiger had nearly 10 years of his PRIME lost due to his behavior and some due to major injuries, if he had Jack
Nicklaus good fortune to have a body that didn’t break down, an a family life not so sorted Tiger would have won over 20 Majors and more than a 100 PGA tournaments...TRULY THE BEST GOLFER OF ALL TIME....Greatest sport figure in the past 50 years....

His mind , body and soul at 50% is good enough to win many more PGA tournaments. Looks like he was around 43% of his past but still won!! Those curving burdies are testimonial of his greatness!!

He's definitely not what he once was, but he still has flashes of it. If he ever gets it going in a tournament, no ones better. That last Masters win is a good testament to that.
