  • Welcome to Quitman, Texas. Quitman had a surprise in store for us in their "little" city park. It was so small it took us nearly half a day to shoot! Obviously it's not really that little. Lots of independent restaurants in town ..some on the square and other just a short jaunt from it.. and there are several of them to choose from. Join us as we take an extended look at Quitman, Texas!

Great video! I was disappointed you were not able to show Stitchin’ Heaven - the largest quilt shop in Texas and employer to over 70 people. We have a 27K square foot campus on 12 acres and we are building an additional 45K square foot warehouse and distribution center. Maybe next time?

Our most sincere apologies for not getting you in. That's the one thing that we are always nervous about: What or whom did we leave out. We do our best to scout out a town beforehand, but sometimes we just miss a location (there's only two of us most of the time). I'm glad you liked what we did get in and if we ever do a re-visit.... We won't miss you that time.

@@DustyWingsProductions Love the video, but is there some kind of UA-cam restriction for showing a gun store or did you just not get around to it? Either way, great vid!

Thanks for all the shots of the Arboretum! It's leased from the city, and the gardens are built and maintained by volunteers.

You're most welcome. We enjoyed our time there. There was so much to enjoy.. we were in there for about 2 hours. So beautiful.

We used to always have the Burgess family reunions in Quitman, usually at the city Park. I loved going on tour of the Hogg home museums on site & the playground when I was a little girl. We haven't had a reunion since Covid-19. 😔

This is a great video. It is only missing the history of people of color. My grandmother was born in 1914 in Quitman. Her baby brother, 13-years her junior was also born in Quitman. He was drafted into the military and received a Presidential Gold Medal as a Documented Original Tuskegee Airmen. His name is MSgt. Joseph Benjamin Montgomery.

That is awesome that a Tuskegee Airman came from Quitman. I have always been fascinated with their accomplishments, and you should be proud of your Great Uncle. But please know my videos are not about the history of the people, but of the town itself and how the town came in to being. I show the look, and the feel of the small towns of Texas. If I make my videos on the history of the people, there is the possibility to leave someone, or some group out of the production upsetting them, and I don’t want to do that. I concentrate on the buildings, the town square, the stadiums, and historic neighborhoods. Please don’t be upset and I hope you check out my other videos in this series and enjoy them as well.

Nice pictures! (One little correction: Quitman had a hospital decades before the 80s)

No mention of Peralta’s (great Mexican food) or the Red Dome (another fine restaurant).
And how about Stitchin’ Heaven? This place is a WORLD CLASS store for quilters.
You could have also gone out on Hwy 2088 in Quitman and shown folks what a cowboy church looks like (Wood County Cowboy Church) complete with a rodeo arena.
There’s also a blueberry farm just a mile north of the town. You can buy or pick your own.
No mention of Lake Lydia either.
I was excited to see Quitman featured but was let down by the lack of coverage this fine community deserves.
Did you go there or just get someone to film for you?

I do all my own work. I work two jobs and shoot what I can in a day. I would love to cover everything but I can't get get it all in in the time I have. I would love to cover all the restaurants in every video but I can honestly only talk about the ones I eat at. I simply do my best to hit the highlights of each town I visit. I shot Quitman, Winnsboro and Mineola all in one weekend to cut down on my travel expenses (I pay for everything out of pocket). I was already "scolded" 😉 for missing the quilt business and I'm sorry I did.

Unfortunately developers are destroying the land that makes quitman so unique and building cheap houses
